The Dawn of Pokemon: Tajiri Launches His Game
Tajiri was no stranger to video games. In the early 1980s, he had won a contest sponsored by Sega that involved making a video game. With his “Game Freak” colleagues, Tajiri had also created his first video game, Quinty, which was published by Namco. But in 1991, Tajiri discovered something that he thought was revolutionary: the Game Boy. When he saw two boys playing a game together, connecting their Game Boys by a link cable, Tajiri immediately began to think of the possibilities. “I saw Game Boy when it was first released,” says Tajiri. “The idea for Pokémon clicked in my mind. The basic idea for Pokemon seemed a good fit for Game Boy.”

The Importance of Permission
Sometimes the student becomes the teacher. That's exactly what happened to me when Seth Godin, co-author of three books with me, authored his own "Permission Marketing: Turning Strangers into Friends and Friends into Customers." It changed my entire outlook about marketing and can dramatically change the beauty of your bottom line.

The VC Version of Kick the Can
I got an email this morning from an entrepreneur that I know that has been trying to raise an early round from a "seed VC investor" for the past few months. He's put together (and closed) a decent angel round and left it open for this seed investor.

The Fireman's Pole First, Kindergarten Next.
Rachael and I usually go over to the elementary school playground to play because it's closer, but today we went down the hill to the 'big park.'

Leadership Strategies - The Bigger Game Competencies from A to Z
For athletes to get to higher levels of achievement, they have to raise the bar to advanced self-awareness. They do this by accessing their potential, which they put into action through training. It is progression from where the athlete comes to the game with her/his existing competencies and then enrolls in coaching and training to expand to her/his bigger game possibilities.

How Can a Business Leader Self-Motivate?
It is hard enough to motivate others; how can a leader motive him or herself? This essay expands on some ideas offered by Jack and Suzy Welch. It offers a good overview of the basic factors that help people to be become effective leaders.

8 Linking Strategies That Work
When it comes to linking strategies for your website you need to concentrate on one word. Backlinks! A backlink is defined as having your website address on another website. This creates a link pointing your visitor or a search engine back to your website. If you were in a game and were keeping score every backlink gives you a +1. An outgoing link is the link of another website on yours pointing back to theirs. You would score this a -1.

Turn Your Do-List Into A Game
The do-list is a burden we carry around, day in, day out. When we have nearly completed it, we or someone else dumps more "do" on it. It's a game you never win. Turning your do-list into a game, by making it a scorecard, shifts the paradigm. Now it becomes a game - a game which you can win or lose, a game where you don't win 'em all, a game which is both challenging and entertaining. What a difference!

Playing The Game
If we treat life like a game and play full out to win the second half based on the learnings from the first, what would it look like? Food for thought on playing the game…

The Uniform Franchise Offering Circular
Just How Important is the UFOC? I started playing golf about 10 years ago and over time have come to love the game. Although technique is a large part of what drives many golfers back to the greens, golf also has a very specific set of rules that define the game and create an equal playing field. The rules spell out how to play, how to keep score and how to determine a winner.

Are You In The Game
Have you ever noticed that it is the people in the stands who supposedly know everything about the game? They give all kinds of advice, but you don't see them actually in the game. It is as if the game exists only for them. Many will say that yes, the game does exist for the fans, for without the fans, where would the game be? I'd like to throw a wrench into that argument and say that, yes the fans are an important part of the game, but without the players, the game wouldn't exist either.

Having Life Plan
People may call me lots of things, but one thing where most people will agree who know me is that I have a purpose to most everything I do; perhaps even to a fault. Playing a game of golf just for fun? Not so much. Playing a game of golf so I can build a relationship with someone or have quiet time to focus on something my mind has been racing about lately. Occasionally. (Actually about twice a year.) My life is usually aiming for something. I promise you I’m not writing this blog post just for “fun”. (What’s that?) So when I write about developing a life plan you can be sure it’s something I practice.

Are You Playing to Win or Playing Not to Lose?
You may have heard the phrase "playing to win or playing not to lose." And while it sounds good to say "you're playing to win" in your business, what exactly does that really mean? Below are some signs that will show you which way you're leaning.

Increasing Your Sales with No Out of Pocket
In today’s market, most of us are focusing on how to stay in business and increase profits without having to spend a lot of money in the process. Doing this can be a real challenge and at times, really frustrating. So, I like to look at this process like playing a strategic board game. It takes some real “think out of the box” along with some good team players and some creative ideas, all mixed together to reach the end of the game and win the prize as inexpensively as possible.

Stress and the Dating Game
Sure dating in this day and age is stressful, what with all the game playing involved even though what women say they value most is honesty, I find that women will often play their own games. It’s no wonder why men are stressed around dating. I thought I would provide some ways to rethink the dating game so that when stress does come up, you are better able to deal with it.

Psychological Sales and Marketing
Sales and marketing is as much about the mental game between yourself and customers as anything else. Forget about your product or service for a while and just tune into your customer's mindset to figure out what game they are playing!
