Part 2 - A business paradigm change is needed

This is not a call to arms, for a revolution nor is it a recipe for chaos. This is a call for understanding; for a paradigm change. More of the same will give us all more of the same – this is the recipe for chaos. Just look around. It is obvious from the state of the World economy, the mental health and the well being of the general population that something is out of kilter.

Employee Motivation - 5 Steps to Apply When Mistakes Occur

CEOs and other leaders continue to recycle employees who failed to make perfect decisions and act properly every time. On the surface you might be thinking, how big was the mistake? Many of these executives also use the cliché, “We pay them the big bucks NOT to make mistakes.” Blame is typically being placed on the wrong people. Worse yet, the leaders who don’t tolerate errors typically hold people to standards higher than those that they themselves achieve and attainable by less than 1% of the population, if that much. These are the very same leaders who cannot understand why their employees are not motivated, the same leaders who typically offer better-than-average compensation to keep people, yet still find it difficult to retain or attract top talent.

Exploring The Town Of Ontario Ajax

The town of Ajax is located in Southern Ontario, Canada. Ajax owes its name to a navy cruiser called HMS Ajax that prevailed during the Second World War. It forms a part of the Durham region and comprises a population of around 91,000 people. Situated on the coast of Lake Ontario, the town was established in the year 1955 and is now considered a rapidly growing community. Ajax is further marked for growth as a business community, already serving as a hub to around 1,900 businesses and an approximate labor force of 42,000. History

Lesson #1: The Experts Are Not Always Right

All his life, Gillette believed that coming up with the idea – the product – would be hardest part of starting any business. After all, it took him no less than 40 years to think of a product that he thought could be profitable. He had never figured on the fact that others might not be so willing to embrace the idea as he was. But as Gillette quickly discovered, learning to listen to his own ideas was important if he was going to become successful.

Updated: The Age/Entrepreneurship Myth

I pretty much entirely disagree with Fred Wilson's implication earlier this week that age is an obstacle to entrepreneurship. It may be an obstacle to a particular kind of entrepreneurship -- venture-backed companies where you give up equity to parental figures with money -- but implying anything broader than that is silly and counter to the facts.

1.0 Introduction: Microfinance in Africa - Experience and Lessons from Selected African Countries

| Small enterprises and most of the poor population in sub-Saharan Africa have very limited
access to deposit and credit facilities and other financial services provided by formal
financial institutions. For example, in Ghana and Tanzania, only about 5–6 percent of the
population has access to the banking sector. This lack of access to financial services from the
formal financial system is quite striking, when one considers that in many African countries
the poor represent the largest share of the population and that the informal sector is an
important part of the economy. |
