Vendor/consultant fees: Value for money?
| |
| IN MY RECENT TRAVELS presenting the Changing Face of Procurement conference series, a number of interesting trends began to emerge based on the feedback from the majority of those in attendance. Beside a growing cynicism in the "reports" that are published by organizations such as Aberdeen or Gartner, the most prevalent belief is that the cost for initiatives such as the recent $24 million spent in just 9 months by the federal government on AT Kearney are largely based on supporting the vendor's (or consultant's) sizeable infrastructure. In short, the costs are not a true reflection of the service, application or results vendors are providing. With a 75 to 85 percent rate of e-procurement initiative failure, it is hard to argue this point. |

The Dangerous Consequences of Micromanaging Your Business According To Your Strategic Thinking Business Coach
| |
| One of the most dangerous and damaging practices of business owners is MICROMANAGING their business. And this practice is entirely too prevalent in today’s business world and it wastes valuable resources of time, talent and financial assets. It is particularly prevalent in entrepreneurial businesses.
The first commitment a business owner must make is to stop acting like an employee and start thinking and acting like a CEO. A transition is necessary for the business owner to think and behave more strategically and less tactically in their role as owner. The business owner must stop micromanaging and delegate. The business owner must start reducing the amount of time they spend involved in the daily transactions of their business.

The Magic of Thinking Big: Developing the Power of Belief
| |
| I recently re-read a book that I read many years ago. It was a great reminder of the power of the mind. It’s like I tell the people that I coach, “If you think you are a winner you’re probably right. If you think you are a loser, you’re probably right.”
The Magic of Thinking Big is a great book that will help you recognize that you’re thoughts and belief in yourself are the aspects that are propelling you forward or holding you back. Knowing this is probably nothing new to you however the tough part is to learn how to develop the power of belief.
Schwartz suggests three ways to develop belief:

4 Ways of Defining Belief
| |
| By definition, belief refers to a psychological state in which a person holds to a premise, or an idea, that he or she discerns to be true. Belief is similar to knowledge, but differentiated by a level of stronger confidence and perhaps even of faith. One of Plato’s early works defined knowledge as a person’s “justified true belief”, and this understanding has continued through the ages. Simply put, you could say that belief is knowledge that has been proven true according to reason, plausibility, and evidence. Of course, one could argue that belief and knowledge are relative to the perception of one individual. This is a moot point though, because whatever a person wants to believe will be their reality - regardless if it is true or not. |

Defining Belief
| |
| Psychology, as well as other practices relating to human mentality, has long held that belief is the most basic form of conscious thought. The issue of whether belief is actually a mental state remains the subject of debate. Nevertheless, in psychology, before a subject can learn any new information, the belief system must first be addressed. This allows the "proposition", or the object of the belief, to be learned.

Belief Systems and Results
| |
| We all carry belief systems that may lead to success and or throw us off course. Many times behavioral weaknesses that are obvious to others (but not to ourselves) are the results of these belief systems. |

The Charismatic Mindset
| |
| Charismatic people possess a mindset of empowering beliefs that build and develop their personal magnetism. As you read through this list of beliefs, take time to consider each in turn. To what extent is each of these beliefs already part of your personal belief system? If you feel resistance to one of these statements, spend some time to imagine how you would feel, think and act if you made that belief your own. Notice how it might empower you, push you to take more responsibility, or make you stronger and more assertive. Think of something you could now do that perhaps you would not have dared to do without that new belief. Try it out. Have fun! Grow some charisma within you! |
