“A Business Coach’s Top Ten Tactics for Marketing Professional Services”
Marketing professional services is a real and difficult challenge. The challenges of marketing professional services are different from those of marketing products. Two major reasons for the differences are that clients cannot see or touch professional services before they buy them and the professional services are often produced and consumed simultaneously. And another reason is that marketing professional services is split among marketing, sales, professional and management staff instead of a dedicated marketing and sales force. Based upon my research and my own professional experience, I developed a Top Ten Tactics for marketing professional services. My top ten tactics for marketing professional services are:

Read Business Magazines and Get a Mentor
Read as many business magazines as possible. I read INC, Fortune, and PROFIT, among others. I go into Chapters when I know nobody is going to bother me. I turn off my blackberry and I scroll through them all. Business magazines tell stories of entrepreneurs, their successes and challenges. They give you great ideas for marketing and I schooled myself through them. I’m not much of a book person and I’m a visual learner so magazines work well for me.

It Takes Time to Make Time
You’ve probably read a lot of advice about how you should spend your time… Parenting magazines, Health magazines & Relationship magazines all have advice... Once you throw in a full-time job and commute time, that doesn’t leave much time for other essentials such as eating, grooming, or doing chores around the house.

Effective Writing: Where Have You Gone?
There are several poorly written articles circling the bowl on a daily basis, and this may end up being yet another one, but it's alarming to me that professional journalists consistently botch spelling and grammar. It used to be newspapers, magazines, and books served as an example of the proper use of punctuation, word groupings, grammar, and synonyms. Not anymore.

Shrink Your Reading Pile Down with a 5-10 Minute Reading Folder
I am always clipping out (or tearing out) articles from various professional and personal magazines that I will read "some day." I have been doing this for years (say, way back to those high-school days believe it or not…) I used to get so frustrated because I never found the time to get to the articles and they just kept piling up on my floor or desk. Then someone helped me!

9 Tips for Making the Most of The National Publicity Summit in New York
To sell your book or product, you have to do whatever it takes to create a buzz. As a public relations professional, the best thing I can do for my clients is stay current with my media connections so that I can pitch their topics. A resource I’ve clued into is the National Publicity Summit in New York City. I attend this event to meet media once or twice a year and have gotten clients booked on Fox News, CNBC, NPR and in a number of national magazines as a result It’s not an inexpensive event, but I have found that it’s an efficient use of my time and money.

Become the Star You Are Meant to Be
You want more out of life than just a job. Whether you work for a large company, a startup, a nonprofit, or you are an entrepreneur, you want to be a star; a complete and total personal and professional success. But professional success is complicated and may be elusive. To achieve professional success and become the star you are meant to be you need a professional success blueprint.

How Strong is your Web Brand?
You’ve built a strong brand. Your office is professional, every piece of collateral you give to prospects is designed with a specific purpose. Your greeting area is strategically designed to match your corporate colours and your magazines for guests are continually replaced. You go crazy when the cleaners miss a spec of dust or things are left out of place. You believe a good first impression means everything. Or do you?

Success is Measured Between the Lines
Growing up, I often heard from my parents, teachers, and coaches, that I could be anything that I wanted to be, that success was within my grasp if I put my mind to it, worked and studied hard. “THINK BIG,” they said. I could be an accountant, lawyer, CEO, doctor, pilot, professional football player (my idea), ________ (you fill in the blank). Magazines, newspapers, radio and television screamed out and reinforced the idea that to be successful I had to own a big home, live in the best neighbourhood, drive a big car(s), eat at the best restaurants, join the best clubs, have season tickets to the theatre, travel to exotic climates.
