Playing the Media Card
| |
| In the course of any litigation, often what happens in the "Court of Public Opinion" is more of a determining factor in the ultimate outcome of the dispute than what takes place in the courtoom. What is seen, heard or read in the media can create an atmosphere and public perception that could influence a jury and it can also expose or put pressure on a defendant to force him to settle the dispute to avoid the glare of public exposure. |

Communications Audit who hears your message
| |
| Public relations is the ongoing process of helping a company or organisation build mutually beneficial relationships with its important publics.
Sometimes a company needs to gauge public, employee or media opinion concerning its image or functions. After all, if a company wants to respond to or change attitudes, it needs to have a clear understanding of what drives those beliefs. A communications audit is a useful tool to test the waters. |

Why use PR
| |
| In simple terms, we think of PR as communications management. It creates awareness, educates and influences public opinion, promotes and protects reputations and encourages organisations to communicate. |

Use The Court of Public Opinion for Litigation Support - Get The Public On Your Side When Stakes Are High
| |
| Winning or losing in the court of public opinion can be just as important as what happens in the halls of justice. Lawyers and their clients need to develop litigation media relations strategies as part of their overall litigation support weapons. Media is a tool in your bag, you've got to use it. If you don't know how, or don't have the time, contact a public relations professional to help |

Effectively Using PR Tactics: Seven Tips To Boost Brand Awareness
| |
| In my opinion, the greatest sin in the public relations realm is the sin of doing absolutely nothing and then wondering why the media aren’t paying attention to you (or, in the case of a crisis, are eating you alive). As a small business owner or manager, you can arm yourself with a copy of Full Frontal PR or Public Relations For Dummies and engage in “do it yourself” PR. Or, you can contract with a PR consulting firm to assist in the process.

The Best Way to Market to Business
| |
| The Internet is the best way for advertisers to market to business decision-makers, according to a poll. A survey of nearly 1,000 people by Minnesota Opinion Research found 60% agreeing the Web was persuasive. Fifty percent said it influenced them to make a purchase.

Will You Outlive Your Savings?
| |
| A significant number of Canadians are worried they will run out of money during their retirement, according to a poll conducted for Investors Group. The poll showed 62% of non-retired respondents had some level of concern about possibly outliving their savings, with 30% saying they were "very" or "extremely" concerned. When it comes to planning for their retirement, 29% said they had no idea whatsoever how they wanted to spend their time, making it impossible to plan. |

How Good Is Your Big Idea
| |
| Every business idea, no matter how good it sounds while bouncing around inside your head, should be put to the test before you invest time and money into its execution. Success lies not in what you think of your idea, but what the buying public will think. Many entrepreneurs find out too late that the public’s opinion of their idea differs greatly from their own. |

Survey shows Internet users prefer PR to ads
| |
| In my previous article, I wrote that public relations may be better positioned than advertising to weather the current storm of major newspapers in financial trouble some of which are going completely digital.
An interesting survey was released recently, which not only seems to support this point, but provides an interesting perspective into the reading habits of young people. "Ragan’s PR News Daily" noted an ARAnet poll based on polling by Opinion Research Corporation, showing that Internet users prefer PR over advertising. |

A Lesson from a 4-Year-Old
| |
| If we were to conduct a poll among the readers of this column to determine how many of you
could sing or dance, I fear that we would receive the overwhelming message that the vast
majority of adults feel they have no talent in these areas. On the other hand, if we were to
conduct the same poll among 4-year-olds, we would find that virtually all of them are convinced
they can sing, and virtually all of them have confidence in their ability to dance.
