Where is This Country's Integrity --- Navy Seals
| |
| Media sensationalism can have a dramatic impact on public opinion. It's often times hard to ignore. Think about the Tiger Woods incident or what the American Idol's Adam Lambert who Tracy used to adore until he performed his perverted sexual imitation on stage at the American Music Awards. Then there are the White House party crashers; the media just can't seem to get enough of these stories that really have nothing to do with the substance of society except that they demonstrate how low we have sunk. The major news papers and most of the television news channels just can't get enough of "Balloon Boy", "The Octamom", Tiger's Sex Life", "The Health Care Fiasco" and many other non sense stories and yet one of the most devastating- patriotism destroying morale destroying decisions of the century is getting very little coverage.

Facing the Facts about Face in China
| |
| In China, the concept "face" influences all levels of society and business. It is similar to the western concept of pride yet different. As a westerner I feel pride once I accomplish something I've been working on, often whether others know of my accomplishment or not. Of course if others acknowledge my achievement, it serves to elevate my feeling of personal satisfaction. On the other hand, "face" is definitely a "public opinion" oriented concept, one that depends upon the respect and acknowledgement of another or others. So it's not so much "what I know about me" as much as it is "what others believe about me." |

Who Is Likely To Succeed In Business?
| |
| I am in a privileged position in the work I do. I come across people at all stages of their business lives and so have a good awareness of which people will succeed, or not.
I am surprised regularly by people about to start a business. When we sit down to discuss their plans, I find out they don't have any! They have a vague dream about running their own business and a few ideas to try to get them going but what about in 3 months time, 6 months, 12 months or even longer down the line? No idea! We will see how it goes! |

Marketing the Truth
| |
| In many respects the public has lost trust in the media and what it reports. Unfortunately this includes our sales message, a little like allowing political rhetoric to be the reason the baby is thrown out with the bathwater. This article takes a look at where we are now and where we should strive to be. |

Playing the Media Card
| |
| In the course of any litigation, often what happens in the "Court of Public Opinion" is more of a determining factor in the ultimate outcome of the dispute than what takes place in the courtoom. What is seen, heard or read in the media can create an atmosphere and public perception that could influence a jury and it can also expose or put pressure on a defendant to force him to settle the dispute to avoid the glare of public exposure. |

Communications Audit who hears your message
| |
| Public relations is the ongoing process of helping a company or organisation build mutually beneficial relationships with its important publics.
Sometimes a company needs to gauge public, employee or media opinion concerning its image or functions. After all, if a company wants to respond to or change attitudes, it needs to have a clear understanding of what drives those beliefs. A communications audit is a useful tool to test the waters. |

Why use PR
| |
| In simple terms, we think of PR as communications management. It creates awareness, educates and influences public opinion, promotes and protects reputations and encourages organisations to communicate. |

Effectively Using PR Tactics: Seven Tips To Boost Brand Awareness
| |
| In my opinion, the greatest sin in the public relations realm is the sin of doing absolutely nothing and then wondering why the media aren’t paying attention to you (or, in the case of a crisis, are eating you alive). As a small business owner or manager, you can arm yourself with a copy of Full Frontal PR or Public Relations For Dummies and engage in “do it yourself” PR. Or, you can contract with a PR consulting firm to assist in the process.

How Good Is Your Big Idea
| |
| Every business idea, no matter how good it sounds while bouncing around inside your head, should be put to the test before you invest time and money into its execution. Success lies not in what you think of your idea, but what the buying public will think. Many entrepreneurs find out too late that the public’s opinion of their idea differs greatly from their own. |

Does the Present Buy American AccordBy-Pass Popular Opinion Relative to Protectionism
| |
| In the October 1st, 2009 Procurement Insights post titled “Buy American Policy: Economic Imperative or Popular Opinion,” I provided an excerpt from my interview with Canada’s Trade Minister Stockwell Day regarding the basis for the Buy American policy.
It was of course the Minister’s expressed belief that popular American opinion surrounding protectionism was the basis for Congressional support of the conditions associated with the stimulus bill that would block Canadian firms from accessing the US government market, versus the existence of legitimate economic imperatives. In short, the U.S. Congress was yielding to public sentiments. |
