DIY PR

My buddy, Glenn Kelman, the CEO of Redfin, had a strong reaction to last week’s post about PR by Marge Zable Fisher. So much so that he penned an alternate solution to the challenge of a good client-agency relationship: Don’t hire an agency and do it yourself. Here’s what he wrote.

Publicity...Everything Changes But the Tool

| As the world turns so does the hot and not communications tools. We jump from print, online news; websites, blogs, microblogs. Proponents of each will swear that "this is the source, the tool that will rise to the top and become the news source of choice." But when you want to be informed (or better yet when YOU want to inform) you think of the lowly, maligned press release. It's not dead. It's just that so few can do the darn thing right. Let Paper Join HistoryPress Kits Join History

The CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) started the world of change a few years ago "encouraging" PR people to only use online press services or online kits. Most of the shows followed suit (MWC - Mobile World Congress, CTIA and well most other shows) going green and making press materials available to media folks even if they didn't attend. But the hue and cry from publicists at NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) show was difficult to understand. The benefits of the web and online services aren't new. After all these years we're rather glad to see the blood, sweat, tears of paper kits disappear

CES ... Plan, Prepare, Be Patient, Good Luck!

| Every day around the globe there are hundreds of conferences, conventions, events being held -- some small, some big, some too big -- CES is a lot like the latter but after 20+ years of attending it's hard to break a bad habit of hitting Vegas right after the new year begins. Our holidays have been "interrupted" so long by getting client materials together we almost believe everyone celebrates Christmas the end of January. CES isn't just a consumer electronics show. It's evolved into probably six-seven different shows and only Vegas is big enough to handle it. While we love to watch newbies hit the strip seasoned veterans know it takes planning, focus, good shows to get the most out of the event. You can't see them all -- don't try, don't get sidetracked. Or ...knock yourself out!!!!

Virtually Branding Your Business Techniques For Do It Yourself Online Success

If you want to succeed in business in today's world one of the first and most vital steps is branding. Of course, this has always been an important factor; but the advent of the Internet has made it perhaps one of the most vital components. Why? You can inexpensively build the world's greatest widget and still go broke if no one knows that yours is the one that stands head and shoulders above the crowd in value and quality...and where and how to buy it.
