Lesson #5: Make Your Workers Happy
“You have to employ winners, and then allow winners to do what they do,” says Simmons. “You have to give them autonomy, which means, in a lot of cases, the opportunity to make mistakes.”

Will Industry Learn from the Media’s Troubles?
"They [reporters] don't climb the stairs anymore, they don't understand the shoe-leather, they don't teach that in their high-class schools. "They are highly trained people who sit in their offices and write term papers. They won't sully themselves going to a greasy housing project or stand out in the rain for a few hours." – Jimmy Breslin, Pulitzer Prize winning columnist

Practice Uncommon Appreciation
If asked, could you name the five wealthiest people in the world, or five people who have one the Nobel Prize, or the last five Academy Award winners for best actor and actress? The point is, none of us remembers the headliners of yesterday. When the applause dies, the awards tarnish, and achievements are forgotten, no one cares about who won which award.

Presidential List
I read an article recently that made a lot of sense to me. Doris Kearns Goodwin is a Pulitzer Prize winner for her books on history, and she made a list of ten points that are important for a President to consider and to emulate if they hoped to be great. She has written books about Abraham Lincoln and Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and she believes leadership strengths should be considered carefully before voting. Writing and Publishing eBooks Made Easy #02 - The Creative Writing Process
Really, you don't have to go for the Pulitzer Prize, if you start writing. On the contrary! Try to write as you speak. Be clear, and come right to the point when you make a statement. Remember, it's not about HOW you write, it's about WHAT you have to say.

They Sure Make Oakland Look Like Paradise!
A few years ago my company sponsored a sales contest (back when companies were allowed to do business by selling things). It was a big deal. First prize was a week-long vacation in Hawaii. Second prize was a week in San Diego. Third prize was a week in Palm Springs. There was also a consolation prize for next-to-last place: a week in Oakland....

The world doesn’t pay for what you know, but for……….
Okay I’ll go ahead and finish the sentence: The World Doesn’t Pay You For What You Know but for What You Do. I guess we would all acknowledge the truth of that and yet I am amazed at the number of people I run into who are bogged down in analyzing, learning, planning and organizing when what they really need to do is take action. I think more than anything else that’s what separates winners from losers – the winners take action.
