I recently had the opportunity to attend the inaugural Optimising the Sales Force Conference along with over 120 high level sales leaders across Australia. I was privileged to be part of the panel of international and local experts presenting on sales effectiveness where we explored the latest research on sales strategy, leadership, learning and development, sales management, sales people, and current market trends. This was the first time in Australia we have had the opportunity to come together as a profession and share ideas and discuss important matters moving forward.

No Internet Monday...An Unbalanced Start to the Work Week
We take our internet service for granted. It's our communication link to the world. And yet when the technology gets the better of us, we are lost, confused and scattered. For this to happen on a Monday morning only means that the work week gets off to an truely unbalanced start. Handling this tech "fault line" can either set you off...or you can take the high road, roll with the punches and know that tomorrow will be another day....one where the internet connection might actually work! Debbie Lessin, CPA and self-proclaimed Balance Lady recently had such a Monday. Debbie always tries to roll with the punches, remembering of course that in the scheme of things, it's really just the internet!

Career Growing Pains: Some Grow UP and Some Grow Old
Transitioning from where you are to where you need to go isn’t easy; it requires you to become connected to the cause and effect of your actions, and to own them by taking responsibility. To engage in something successfully, especially in a competition or fight, you must have the ability to take a punch and respond with a counter punch (meaningful reaction)-and remain standing. You aren’t engaged if you just take the punches, without bothering to move, change or get out the way. To think that you are engaged when you are making little effort while expecting big results, finding excuses for staying where you are, blaming someone else, or just being blind to the lesson of cause and effect-only makes you bitter instead of better.

Are You Adept At Adapting?
I've found the most adaptive people to change often are entrepreneurs, whether they are inside or outside organizations. Either as independent business people or corporate executives, they react quickly to change and they have a "next" (what's next) mentality. They seem to have certain attitudes and behaviors that allow them to "roll with the punches" and take advantage of changing situations. When change occurs - whether good or bad - they nearly always land on their feet. For them, change truly is interesting.
