Know Your Niche
It was a warm, quiet winter afternoon as I walked along the beach. At the headland there was a typical collection of rock pools. Lots of pools, some with more water than others, and some surging with the tidal wash. As I looked more closely I noticed the inhabitants - a purple anemone or two on the sidewall, sea snails moving slowly along the crevices, and other small creatures swimming around.

Top Ten Ways to Manage Interruptions
So many people I worked with said they got more work done at home than in the office. That was because there were so many interruptions in the office. In fact lots of people come in early or stay late just to have quiet time to work. One way to have that same quiet time during the day is to manage interruptions. Look for ways to create a “Power hour” of work time. Maybe this will allow you to get home earlier!

Increasingly we are all busy with our lives and we work at a hectic pace. Finding ways and times to just be quiet and contemplative is difficult. I know that I have to consciously carve out some time in my day for reflection and rest. Finding An Entrepreneurial Lifeline In A Life Of Quiet Desperation
Henry David Thoreau wrote, "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation." I would agree with that, but in these modern times, women must be added into the equation. Some of the methods work solely on the individual level, while others require a company-wide initiative. When you utilize these 10 tips and instill them in your office, you will replace the afternoon slump with a time of increased productivity.

Fishing Lessons
Recently, I had the opportunity to spend an afternoon fishing with my father. This is something I highly recommend. He and I spent a lot of time fishing when I was growing up, but now we seem to get out once or twice a year. I find that the fishing is irrelevant. The key is the outing itself and the time we spend together, as well as the lessons I learn. Fishing is simply an excuse to enjoy an afternoon outdoors with someone you love and respect. Fishing somehow makes it legitimate. If you were to take an afternoon off work, stand at the lakeshore, and talk, you would be considered lazy or unproductive. But if you hold a fishing rod during the process, it makes it all somehow legitimate.
