Can You Make Your Hobby Into A Business
My client, Jenny, showed me a small selection of knitted wool hats that she had made. She said she had dozens of them in her house. She wondered about the possibility of going into business selling these hats. Up to now she had sold a few to friends without any effort. Wouldn’t it be nice to sell them to others! Maybe-on a website.

Do You Want To Become A Rainmaker
During my 35 year career, I have had the privilege of being referred to as a "Rainmaker" in several news articles and stories during interviews with some of my clients. I take that as a very kind compliment. Some may ask, what is a "Rainmaker?" The American Indian tradition would say that the Rainmaker used magical powers to bring rain to nourish crops to feed the people of the tribe. Today, the most common and simplistic definition I can offer would be this: A "Rainmaker" is a person who brings the most revenue into a company or organization and the revenue or money is the rain. Today's "Rainmaker" makes things happen, generates the most new customers, new business and takes the art of the doing business to new levels.

What to do When You\'re the VP of Sales AND Marketing
Vice-President of Sales & Marketing is no easy position, no matter what industry or size of company. Having worked with Sales & Marketing VPs for over 10 years now, I've come to realize that you more than the two hats implied in the job title. A VP of Sales & Marketing must be a manager, a diplomat, a rain-maker, a visionary, a tactician and strategist, all rolled into one. And he or she must be able to move from one role to the other with fluidity or else perish in the pit of minutia.

Guerrilla Marketing Memes
The prehistoric man, Uba, spent all day in the rain trying to catch a fish because his family was very hungry and in dire need of food. But he was unable to grab a fish from the stream even though he occasionally got his hands on one. Frustrated and weak from hunger, he just couldn't grab any fish firmly enough because it would slither from his hands and return to the stream. Worse yet, the light rain turned to a heavy rain and Uba was forced to seek shelter in a nearby cave.

Understand Your Roles
How many hats do you wear? Well, not literally, of course. You hear that phrase all of the time. Wearing many hats. What that essentially means is that in life, we all have different roles that we play in different groups. If you don't consider those roles, it can cause you time management issues down the line.

Re-Organizational Chart
Most small businesses start with a good idea, an individual with a skill set who turns the idea into a revenue producing business, some investors or personal savings, and patience and perseverance. The founding father or mother wore many hats at the beginning and over time handed these hats to individuals who were hired to help as the business grew. Sometimes growth came so quickly that there was a rush to judgement as to how many and who to hire as well as their areas of responsibility. This was a good problem to have because sales were increasing and the dream of growth was coming true.

Focus on your strengths
Relinquish hats of responsibility so you can focus on the core for sake of the company.

Prayer and purposeful action
I awoke early this morning to the sound of gentle rain falling and found myself immediately praying for more. This prayer came automatically during one of the most tragic weeks in Victoria’s history with the tragedy of the bush fires in many parts of our state. As a Victorian I have found myself upping my prayer quotient for rain for some time now, not just for the bush fires but for the many people whose lives are affected by the drought here and elsewhere. In addition to my prayers, like many families, my family and I have been doing our best to save water and change the size of our carbon foot print. Yet at times like this one can’t help but feel somewhat helpless and useless. All I felt I could do under the circumstances was to pray and give money.

The Heroes Organize Their Business
We have many equally important business functions competing for time slots. This is the management task of deciding who does what, where and when. In large organizations, this will mean handing over responsibilities and the authority to suitable persons and departments. In many of our smaller organizations, this means wearing one hat for the hour or day, and wearing different hats during the other hours and the other days. Either way, keep the hats stylish and comfortable. Nobody wants to wear a frumpy hat.

Improve Your Bottom-line by Outsourcing
You are a busy business owner who wears many hats in your business, right? How many hats are you wearing today? Are you the only person who can do all those tasks, wear all those hats? Or is it out of habit that you do? Or maybe you’ve never considered which of those tasks could be done by someone else.
