The Great Secrets of a True Leader
To be most successful, leadership can not be treated simply as a role you play or as a program for middle management, but rather it must be viewed at all levels as a way of "being a leader." This "soft stuff" is hard work, but as a leader you already knew that.

Unemployed? Plan Your Career Now
Our economy is a mess, and we are in uncharted territory. Most everyone is feeling the pinch, especially if they now find themselves unemployed or wonder if they are the next one to lose their job. Unfortunately, most people put more planning into their next vacation than they do their career or more realistically their “careers.”

Leadership by Example

As a CEO, Vice President, Director or any other “KEY” leader, you play a very important role in developing a corporate or organizational mind-set...a mind-set that embraces the kind of leadership at all levels that will take your organization from good to great...

Wearing Your Heart On Your Vest - Manners and Etiquette
Jorge was a young construction worker, sitting near the front of the bus. Natasha was an older lady confined to a wheelchair. She asked him about his orange safety vest, "Where do you get those?" The vests are highly reflective and are easily seen by oncoming automobile traffic. Natasha thought that a similar vest might protect her as she crossed the street from the bus stop to her house in the evening. Jorge stood up, took the vest off, and presented it to Natasha as a gift.

DEEP REFLECTION
A reflective habit is one of the most powerful techniques that you can adopt to become an increasingly conscious learner. It may appear at first difficult and time wasting. However with patience and practice, the real value of reflection will become clear.

Summer Hours....Lost in Transition
As much as we may try to control the events in our lives, life sometimes has a mind of it's own. A firm believer in "Summer Hours", a time to work less and play more, this year because of the death of my father, my summer hours have in fact become lost in transition. Reflective of the knowing insights that this significant event and my new family responsibilities have created, I share my memories and the internal quest to find a new semblance of balance, a work in progress as I seek not to become lost in the transistion.

This is also true of our internal environment---our self talk. Is your self-talk positive and full of possibility? Do you have relationships with nutritious people? The “right” Environment is key to living our dreams and reaching our goals.

EVERYTHING THATS BEAUTIFUL IS CRACKED THATS HOW THE LIGHT GETS IN
Leonard Cohen is credited with the above statement. I believe that he has captured the essence of beauty. Beauty is in the nature of our flaws. It is in our reflective self-awareness and acceptance of our imperfections that we discover our true beauty.

Ideas and Actions of a CEO
CEOs are more than action oriented people. They must be reflective, come up with the lead example, determine the lead course and have great faith in the ideal they are promoting. Great leaders of the past are good examples to study for clues as to how to lead, beliefs to possess, action to take, people to care for and earth and land to entrust. The great are given much and from them much is expected. They must be worthy and act determinedly in the position they have been privileged to stand in

FATHERS & SONS (How the Years Go By)
Many of you have children who have just graduated from university or college and/or who are about to graduate from high school this month. Congratulations for all of your perseverance and hard work in getting your kids there! They would not have been able to do it without your support and guidance. This months article is to draw your attention too and remind particularly all of the dads around this; “Fathers Day,” that these are “the moments of our lives.” These are the moments that should be reflective of what we value and cherish most.

Improving Listening Skills
Reflective listening (also called Active listening) is the best method for people to improve communications. The technique works, but it requires skill and a lot of practice to do it well. This article focuses on this topic and gives a few pointers.

Self-Discipline: A Balancing Act
Self-discipline is a balancing act. We are a collection of values, motivations, intentions, fears, potential, abilities, quirks, strengths and stories we tell ourselves. How all of this translates into self-discipline depends upon how aligned we are with our goals and how we balance priorities day to day. The balance you strike is reflective of your personal style of self-regulation. Are you happy with the way you balance your life or do you tend to let things slide a long time before you notice things are out of whack? One thing I notice about people who are content with their ability to regulate themselves is that they are aware of their priorities, they are clear about them, they take responsibility for them, they take time to focus on them and they have a way of balancing competing demands on their time.
