Extended Warranties: Sensible Insurance or Waste of Money?
| |
| Paul Champagne saved the Canadian Department of Defence more than a billion dollars over a ten-year period by "ripping up a couple thousand extended warranties", according to Maclean's magazine (6 July 2009). That's a number that's hard to argue with. So we took a closer look at extended warranties: the pros, the cons, who really benefits from them.
The conclusion? Extended warranties are a very expensive form of insurance. They are a cash cow for retailers, yielding profit margins of 50% and more. The benefit to consumers is dubious, to say the least.

Warehouse Intelligence Versus Warehouse Management The Baxter Advantage Baxter Planning Systems Profile

| Network Member Question:
“What is the best equation to prepare a costing for spare parts in an electronic repair center?”
Baxter Answer (Mark Anderson, Vice President, Supply Chain Solutions):
“I think we would need more precise information about your environment to offer specific pricing equations, so I’ll use this opportunity to talk in general about service parts.
There are unique characteristics to service parts to be considered. First, there are the large number of parts (generally) that you will need to perform repair. There is also a unique pattern to demand of these items. In Pricing, consideration should be given to the criticaity of each part and the part’s lifecycle (new, growing, mature, phasing out, discontinued). Of course, pricing of your competitors is also a consideration.

Bend or Break - Which Will You Do?
| |
| When I was a kid I liked to take things apart and try to put them back together again. Besides the problem of ending up with ‘extra’ parts, I was often frustrated when a piece of the toaster, radio or whatever I was working on wouldn’t flex enough to accommodate easy removal or replacement. On more than one occasion I damaged the part to the point of rendering it useless or ineffective. |

Direct Sales Strategies: The Art of Selling and The Sales Presentation
| |
| Selling can be broken down into its parts, and much can be learned from doing so,
but to put those parts together in a convincing sales conversation requires the artful

Free Sample Marketing On Facebook
| |
| Free sample marketing is when you offer something for free, either in the hopes that the person who received the free item will buy something that goes with it later, or in the hopes that by giving a free sample, the person will buy the real thing. For example, if a company gives away free razors with replaceable blades to women ages 18-30 on Facebook, they hope that the women will like the razor enough that they will go out and buy replacement blades for the razor and continue to use it. So, even though the company lost money by giving away the razor for free, they've actually gained money in the long run, because they've now got a new customer who will continue to buy replacement razor blades from them for the foreseeable future. |
