What's Returns Have To Do With It?
| |
| On a subject I don't talk much about, I wanted to address a subject that does affect retailers, even with a good POS system. And that's about returns. We can't ignore statistics, and these are showing us some important trends in retail fraud. We're finding that fraudulent returns total $9.6 billion a year, according to figures from the National Retail Federation, and a Return Exchange's Retail Returns Study puts the figure at more than $17 billion annually.
Returns that come through an automated system like your POS can take the burden of granting returns out of the store's hands. The merchandise tag can be scanned at point of sale and, when a customer c |

Stock Prices Rise 21% When Firms Announce Energy Management Projects
| |
| When selecting projects under a limited budget, a firm should implement the project that will return the most value. Ultimately, firm value is measured by stock price, which can be impacted when the firm makes a major announcement. This paper shows that announcements of energy management projects correlate with a 21.33% increase in stock price within 150 days of the announcement. This increase is in addition to the risk-adjusted return the firm would normally experience. For example, during a “bull market” a firm’s expected return was 10%. After the announcement, the return would increase by 21.33%, for a net return of 31.33%. These results suggest that investors react positively to energy management projects. This outcome demonstrates one more strategic incentive for firms to implement energy management projects. |

A Dichotomy of Perspectives: A Discussion on Forrest Breyfogle’s New Book on Integrated Enterprise Excellence
| |

In the following paragraphs I will share a few of the more meaningful discussion streams starting with the original question.

Mother of a sales performance
| |
| As the New York Stock Exchange is now looking at "employee engagement" as a significant predictor of higher share value and market return, and given we are all competing, not just for clients and market share but for good employee talent, maybe a key performance indicator for sales management could be in Organisational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB). |

Job Exchange Programs- A Different Spin On Employee Development
| |
| A job exchange program works much like a foreign student exchange program. An employee basically switches to another group, department, city, or any other division in the company. There, the employee is "hosted" by the receiving office and gains exposure to the culture, employees, and clients of that office. It can be a situation where two employees truly "exchange" positions for a set period of time. |

Why ‘everybody lives by selling something’ is key to your success
| |
| ‘Everybody lives by selling something’ seems to have allowed people to discuss an area that is fundamental to human relationships and communication, the principle of exchange. In our lives we are all exchanging things of value. Whether what we exchange is of value to others should be determined through effective communication, open dialogue, and trust.
Taken to an organisation wide level, everybody in a company has an impact on how the business communicates with and engages in the principle of exchange with its customers, suppliers, the broader community, and each other.
The legacy of silos in organisations, where departments distance themselves from each other, pitting their agenda against others to gain an upper hand, is the opposite of the principle ‘everybody lives by selling something’. |
