Lessons From Blockbuster A UVP Worth Writing Home About
| |
| When Blockbuster first came out with their online movie rental service it was a joke compared to Netflix. I tried it out for several weeks and was sorely disappointed and quickly switched back. What was Blockbuster's problem? Essentially, they had no Unique Value Proposition. Blockbuster could not convince me, and many others, that their service was worth using over their primary rival, Netflix. That has all changed. |

Sales Training for the Fiery Edge on your Competitors
| |
| Your company’s rival could be investing in sales training for their sales staff while your sales staff sits complacently at their office desks, perhaps reaching sales goals but never exceeding them. | |
| In the world of business it can be disheartening to think that you'll never be able to compete with the “big boys” because of their huge advertising budgets. Lesson #1: “Everybody likes something extra, for nothing.”
| |
| When Wrigley Jr. first arrived in Chicago in 1891, he knew that the $32 in change that was jingling in his pockets was not going to take him very far. But Wrigley Jr. had something else going for him that could rival even the deepest pockets: he had enthusiasm, energy, and talent as a salesman. It was those qualities that were going to help him come up with the idea that would get his company off the ground to a running start. |

China commits to raising outsourcing profile
| |
| India may still be the dominant country when it comes to offshore outsourcing, but that situation could change in the coming years as China makes a bid to challenge its rival. Earlier this year, the government chose 20 cities as outsourcing hubs to attract more international investment and provided them with tax breaks, labor hours systems and employment subsidies.
Now, the country has announced further policies designed to boost the sector. On Wednesday, the Chinese government said it would increase the financial incentives given to companies working within the outsourcing industry, particularly within the 20 hub cities.

The Power of Advertising Proven During the Great Depression
| |
| There is an adage, that says out of every tragedy comes an enterprise. This was very
convincingly demonstrated in the years of the Great Depression. As the nation was in
a very bleak economic situation. Some of the titans of business sought to take a very
simple approach to the severe economic and social conditions.
That was to act as thought nothing was wrong at all. To continue to advertise to their
customers who were in the worst economic situation to date. This or course mirrors
the current economic crisis the world is going through. It was W.K. Kellogg who took
he risk to increase his advertising to his customers. While his rival C.W. Post took the
conservative road and scaled back on advertising. |

Is it best to be the cheapest or to be the best?
| |
| Is it best to be the cheapest or to be the best?
If you type in the word "cheapest" into any search engine you will be presented with millions or results of web pages vying for position as the cheapest flights, cheapest Disney tickets, cheapest hotels etc.
Is it good to run your business as being the "Cheapest service"? Well I personally don't think so, but there seems to be a huge market out there for this.
The problem with competing on price is that if you are not cheaper than your next rival then you have no place to go other than to go yet cheaper still and so on.
Alternatively, if you compete on quality or the best service then so long as you deliver an outstanding service and/or quality products and services then customers will not only return to you, but they will also recommend business your way too. |
