How Can Anyone Spend That Much Time on Sales Coaching?
| |
| If you aren't the low price leader or one of the two or three best-known brands in your industry, and if buying from you does NOT represent the safe choice for your customers, then you are an underdog. And if you are an underdog, you had better be providing comprehensive sales and sales management training and coaching because you can't compete on price or reputation. |

My sales director wants equity - should I give it to them?
| |
| The best sales directors that I know are entrepreneurial by nature. They thrive on risk and strive to create a substantial upside. Personally, I would never take on a sales director role without the potential for ownership, but that's just me. I know the value I am capable of creating and I habitually work towards a long-term plan - I believe this far outweighs most salary and bonus only roles. |

Why you can’t have a one-type-of-sales-person-does-it-all approach
| |
| There is a large body of research that shows there are many types of sales people for different types of clients, products, and markets. Just because a sales person may be excellent in one market may not mean they are well suited for another. In today's world we are well equipped to define the type of sales role our business needs and define the salesperson's selling style to match that role. So let move away from limiting sales stereotypes and open ourselves to diversity. |

The Importance of Networking in a Recession
| |
| We may be facing tough times, with businesses going to the wall, budgets being slashed and thousands of jobs being lost. There are things we can do, however, to give ourselves the best chance of surviving, and even thriving in this crisis.
The ‘dog-eat-dog’ world of business painted by TV programmes such as The Apprentice is not necessarily the way forward in business today. Instead businesses are more likely to achieve positive results through collaboration. Sharing experiences, expertise, ideas and contacts is essential to business success.
In short, networking is vital. It helps businesses become better known, better equipped and achieve better market penetration than they could manage on their own.
So, how can networking help you get the edge you need to succeed and overcome the current recession?

Sales People spending less than 10% of their time SELLING
| |
| I got talking to a senior salesperson recently and was gob smacked when he told me about the amount of admin work that he is expected to produce on top of his sales target. He was literally spending half his working week doing paperwork. It got me to thinking that when you consider other unavoidable tasks such as travelling to and from sales meetings , the amount of time that he could possibly be spending in front of prospective clients actually selling must be tiny. |

Directors’ responsibilities
| |
| Company directors are responsible for the management of their companies. But they act on behalf of the owners, and must consider their interests in everything they do. They also have responsibilities to the company's employees, its trading partners, and the state.
As a director, you need wide powers to help the company become a strong and profitable business. You face serious penalties if you abuse those powers, or if you use them irresponsibly.
This briefing covers:
• Appointing company directors.
• Directors' powers.
• Directors' responsibilities.
• Penalties for misuse of position.

Sales Management Training Tips: Sales Coaching vs. Admin?
| |
| After my last blog 5 Ways to Gauge Your Sales Managers’ Coaching, I heard from several clients. One VP of Sales loved the article and asked for copies for his Directors of Sales. Two heads of sales from different companies liked the post but did not want to send it out to their frontline sales managers because of my comment (see below) that coaching was more important than administration. Neither wants their sales managers to feel that it is OK to spend time in the field and avoid administration.

Top Five Responsibilities of Nonprofit Board Members
| |
| I have seen effective and ineffective boards of directors. Good boards of directors are clear about their roles and responsibilities versus those of the Executive Director, and they don't overstep their boundaries. This article highlights what I consider are the five most important responsibilities of board members. |

Why You Need a Board of Advisors/Mastermind Group
| |
| This week I’ve had a lot of discussions with people about Mastermind Groups. All large corporations have a Board of Directors to be sure the company stays true to their mission, hit their numbers and fulfill their responsibility to stockholders. Small businesses (even sole-proprietorships) need them too. But usually, only those small businesses who accept private funding (from banks, angel investors, venture capitalists) have outsiders on their Board of Directors. A professional Board of Directors may not always create a happy, supportive, safe environment for business owners to turn to for problem solving, brainstorming, or even feedback. |

| Your Outside Sales Representative comes into the office complaining that their prospect wasn't in a position to buy your product. They have every excuse and objection, but you have a lingering feeling that a solid opportunity was wasted. This is a reality for many Sales & Marketing Directors in mid-sized enterprises.
