How to Use Barriers to Entry to Your Business Advantage
| |
| According to Cisco Innovators Forum guest blogger Bob Goedjen when we refer to barriers to entry for a business we are not talking about such issues as normally required start-up costs of business but rather about those things that are inherent in the industry or selected market place that impede a small business or any business from entry. |

How to Raise Prices
| |
| Bob Goedjen, guest blogger at Cisco Innovators Forum says that if 90% of entrepreneurs have under-priced themselves, plus many businesses have cut prices during the recession, how do you raise prices now that the economy is picking up again? I asked Bob Goedjen of Silicon Valley SCORE to give us his insights. |

Align Sales & Marketing with Lead Nurturing
| |
| Lead nurturing is all about having consistent and meaningful communication with viable prospects regardless of their timing to buy. Read our Lead Nurturing Guide to learn how to qualify, score, and nurture leads that aren't quite ready to be handed off to sales.

Benchmarking your Core Competencies
| |
| All organizations claim to have “core competencies” but few actually benchmark their capabilities to track and measure improvements over time. Take the time to evaluate your business from a high-level, and commit to continuous improvement. Use Demand Metric’s Core Competencies Assessment to set a baseline for your organization, and work to improve your score before your next self-assessment. |

Finding Your Currency
| |
| "What if I don't have much to offer?" You know, I'm shocked and a bit sad by the number of people who ask that when I explain that to build strong relationships -- the kind that will consistently grow sales, boost your career, or just pack your social calendar -- you have to give, give, give, and not keep score. The Best News
| |
| There are many different attitudes. Roberto de Vincenzo, a golfer from Argentina, beautifully displayed one of the best ones many years ago when he won the Masters Golf Tournament but was denied the coveted green jacket. I say he won it because he had the lowest score at the end of four days. But his playing partner who kept the score had inadvertently written that he had made a five on one of the holes when in reality he had made a four. De Vincenzo signed the card, and when an incorrect card is signed, the player is disqualified. He had not cheated, but the rules stood. What was his reaction when he learned he was disqualified? Did he blame his playing partner? No, he said he made a stupid mistake. He accepted full responsibility himself. Now what kind of man is he?

Play the Point, Not the Score
| |
| I watched Rafael Nadal play two incredible matches at the Australian Open over the weekend. In the semifinals, he defeated Fernando Verdasco in a 5 hour and 14 minute match 6-7(4) 6-4 7-6(2) 6-7(1) 6-4. He returned to the court a little over 40 hours later and defeated Roger Federer 7-5 3-6 7-6(3) 3-6 6-2 in a match lasting 4 hours and 23 minutes. If you are a tennis player, you know this is an amazing physical and emotional achievement. |

Disaster Continuity Planning
| |
| According to a report by SCORE on the impact of disasters on U.S. small businesses, natural and manmade disasters have increased by 40% over the last 15 years. The likelihood that you'll experience one is too high to ignore. About 25% of businesses do not reopen following a major disaster. You need to plan ahead to make sure you can weather the storm (pun intended) and continue to be profitable. |

All Opportunities Are Not Created Equal
| |
| When reviewing an opportunity, most sales manages will ask about the odds to close. When asked about odds to close, most sales reps have a ready answer. The Importance of Focus
| |
| Usually, it is difficult to reach a goal unless we aim for it. The importance of focus is mission critical in first, finding the target, second, adjusting the aim, and third going for it. All this usually happens in a mental mechanism that is outside our consciousness. To raise the potential for success in life, learning to focus helps to reduce clumsy tries and near misses. Effectiveness becomes predominant with the application of focus. |

RFM - Recession Proof Your Marketing Spend Today!
| |
| RFM stands for Recency, Frequency and Monetary Value. It has been used by direct marketers for over 40 years as a segmentation tool to increase marketing ROI. The basic premise of RFM is that customers who have purchased more recently, more frequently and have spent more with your company are your best prospects for future direct marketing campaigns. Like data mining/response modeling, the goal of RFM is to increase marketing ROI by communicating (via direct mail, call center, etc.) only with customers that are likely to respond. Done well, you increase your ROI as you attain almost the same number of sales by contacting only a fraction of your customer base. This is a fullproof method to increase sales while decreasing marketing spend in a bad economy. |

4 Critical Principles of an Online Outsourcing Marketplace Feedback System
| |
| Feedback systems are such a fundamental part of making an online outsourcing marketplace work that it sticks out like a sore thumb if you don’t have one. They are designed to improve the experience of both the outsourcing buyer and the freelance provider. As a whole, these systems allow outsourcing companies to establish their own reputation as a reputable employer while reviewing the reputation of freelance providers in an effort to find the most capable and proven talent.
Outsourcing companies submit feedback on freelance providers and relay their positive or negative experience so other buyers can review feedback before entering into an outsourcing relationship with that freelance provider. In theory, the entire process works great...depending on a few critical principles... |

How to Position Your Company in the Minds of Consumers

The Four Major Steps in Sales
| |
| By definition, a sale is the act of meeting prospective buyers and providing them with a product or service in return for money or other agreed upon compensation. A sale is an act of completion of a commercial activity. Finding An Entrepreneurial Lifeline In A Life Of Quiet Desperation

| Henry David Thoreau wrote, "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation." I would agree with that, but in these modern times, women must be added into the equation. How Balanced is YOUR Life?
| |
| Contrary to popular belief, balance is not an end point destination or a “thing” to be acquired. It is dynamic and always changing. Balance is more of a process not a place. A balanced life will look very different from one person to the next. The challenge is that most people have not given much thought to what a balanced life truly means to them. |

Credit Card Debt Settlement - It may be worth sacrificing your credit score
