His Secret Recipe: How Hershey Achieved Success
From the plain and humble beginnings of his Mennonite family to becoming one of the richest men in America, Hershey’s passion for chocolate was matched by nothing except his love of children. Although he smoked between eight to ten cigars a day until his death in 1945, Hershey lived a long life, filled with both failure and success, lots of hard work and determination, and a concern for his fellow man. What was Hershey’s recipe for success?

Grounds for Success: How Schultz Reached the Top
“I can’t give you any secret recipe for success, any foolproof plan for making it in the world of business,” says Schultz. “But my own experience suggests that it is possible to start from nothing and achieve even beyond your dreams.”

Lesson #3: Find What Works and Stick With It
Coca-Cola executives in the 1980s would have done well to follow in the example of its founder. In growing his company, Candler understood the importance of not messing with perfection. As an increasing number of copycat beverages found their way onto the market, Candler might have changed the shape of his bottle, or altered his marketing message, but he never once made the crucial error that his later successors would: after creating the perfect drink, he never again changed its secret recipe. Candler knew that in an increasingly competitive industry, it was important to stand out, and to keep customers on their toes, but he did not dare mess with what he saw as excellence. After all, if it was not broke, why fix it?

Lesson #3: Dedicate Yourself And Follow Through
“I made a resolve then that I was going to amount to something if I could,” Sanders once said. “And no hours, nor amount of labour, nor amount of money would deter me from giving the best that there was in me. And I have done that ever since, and I win by it. I know.”

Sweetening The Deal: Hershey Tries Chocolate
Back at home in Lancaster, Hershey had no capital to start another business, but he still had the vision and the determination. He managed to convince a former employee, Harry Lebkicher, to back his venture financially. Soon thereafter, his mother’s family also came on board. This support allowed Hershey to begin experimenting once again. In a short time, Hershey had perfected a recipe he called ‘Hershey’s Crystal A’, a caramel candy made with the secret weapon he had learned of in Denver: fresh milk.

We all want the magic formula or recipe for instant success. Unless your definition of success is to have millions of dollars and you win the lottery, success is never instant but the result of deliberate action toward a pre-determined objective. Part 2 - A business paradigm change is needed
This is not a call to arms, for a revolution nor is it a recipe for chaos. This is a call for understanding; for a paradigm change. Copywriting For the Female Market
Did you know that women make over 80% of the buying decisions (even of products we think of as male) yet the sales copy techniques commonly used were developed in the 1920's when women weren't the buyers? Lorrie Morgan Ferrero has rewritten the recipe and she shared this with me on a recent interview. Here is Lorrie's recipe for adapting your sales letters to appeal to the female buyer: The important thing to know is that the way sales letters are traditionally written works.

5 Spices of Retail Design
This week as I was channel surfing I came across a cooking show on one of the Food Network. After unveiling the dish, the chef and his co-judges introduced each ingredient used in the dish. As the ingredients were placed on a back lit table the names of each one appeared. The whole presentation was a testimony to the art and science of visual merchandising.I couldn't stop wondering if there was a secret recipe to designing retail projects. A recipe requires ingredients and if those were placed on a table such as the one I saw on the show, what would be the words that would light up? Like any good dish, would the success of the project depend on how the ingredients were used?

Perspective is Everything
Reality can be best defined as one's perception based upon their own perspective. Recently, I was enjoying an old, rather antiquated spy novel in which four opposing secret agents are sitting around a table, engaged in a card game. One of the agents was to receive a secret coded symbol that he was to write on the tablecloth. The secret coded symbol was to be picked up by a hidden camera in the ceiling of the card room. The other three secret agents were to observe the secret symbol as soon as it was written on the tablecloth and then report back to their respective spymasters.
