Lesson #4: Break Down the Barriers in Your Way

The Attitude of Gratitude

Humbly grateful or gratefully humble? In a recent sermon Dr. Jack Graham of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas points out that each person in his or her lifetime will cultivate either an attitude or spirit of thanksgiving, gratitude and thankfulness, or an attitude or life as a cynic, full of anger, bitterness and arrogance. He expands on this by pointing out that a grateful child, by-and-large, is far more likely to be a happy child. He also says a person who is hostile, angry and critical, who is a fault-finder, is basically an ungrateful person.

How to Turn Around Flat or Declining Sales Revenue

I don't care how many years your people have been in sales. They weren't trained to sell in an economic environment like the one we have today. Retaining accounts is as important as ever, but right now, most companies need their salespeople to bring in new business. Unfortunately, most of your salespeople weren't trained to hunt and close either, only to manage accounts. So it's a complex situatio.

Leadership Tip - Who is Leaving You Behind?

When you give in to self-pity and victimization you leave behind your potential. It is abandoning yourself from being all that you can be. Life holds a special purpose for you. Finding it is part of your journey. Once you get on purpose and get on track, you are not being left behind. Your success builds from your special purpose and no one else’s.

Work Life Balance: 7 Keys to Avoid Burnout

Last week I gave a workshop on time management for a women's group. I asked the audience (mostly moms) about their biggest challenges about time management and stress management. Not surprisingly, most of them feel stressed out, overwhelmed, juggling too many competing priorities, have too many things to do with too little time, and virtually no time for themselves. If you're a mom, I bet you can probably relate to this, at least to some degree. What you might not know is that you are heading toward burnout. This article will teach you 7 keys to avoid burnout.

Seven Steps to a Successful Performance Review

Whether you are a sales rep or a sales manager, there are a few basic principles that can make a significant difference in your commission check if you apply them. They certainly have for me. (Not that I apply them perfectly; just below my polished surface lurk laziness, arrogance and self-pity that if not kept in check can sabotage my best efforts.) The principles are simple, but not easy; they require self- motivation and self-discipline. But if you apply them, you will see measurable results. So, read on!

Do Not Feed The Inner Demons

| We can become caught up in a cycle of self-pity and discouragement.
But we do not have to feed this inner demon. We can nourish the nice guy,
and use the tools of meditation to find peace of mind. And nothing is
more powerfully persuasive in sales than a person who exudes inner peace. |

Money Talk

Conversations about money abound. We usually talk aloud about money when we’ve just had an unexpected bill pop up, a dry season with income or some other painful experience. It’s quite acceptable in American culture to complain and fret to each other about our finances. In fact, others will join in with you to make a fast pity party. It’s almost cool to complain.

You Have No Frame of Reference Here, Donny

I pity taxpayers wandering into the credit crisis story at this point. It is absurdly complex, and centers on a subject that most people neither care about nor understand. And the last time they looked in they were told this was about subprime and housing, which it no longer is -- at least not in large part.

Taglines, a misused and misunderstood marketing tool

Pity the poor tagline. Dismissed as a mere slogan, hampered by a boring turn of phrase, ignored by “serious” business people. It’s a wonder an honest, effective tagline even gets up in the morning.

Providers Work to Profitably Meet Data/Video Bandwidth Demand

| Friends in the Pacific Basin laugh at us when we talk about our 4G mobile service. When we say the infrastructure is being enhanced with LTE and soon we'll have 12MB bandwidth they look at us with pity. But when they look at our "all you can eat" service there is envy in their eyes.
We don't bother telling them that the everything data plans are either capped or throttled and going away...why disillusion them?
Some really smart people have an idea of how to build a new bridge and get us more bandwidth. It will come to pass even if the broadcasters don't like it because...there's money involved.
