| How can your mind-set affect the way you are perceived at work? By reflecting on your self-worth can you change the attitude of others?
I am called into work places on a frequent basis to help manage members of staff who do not respond well to feedback. Sharynn consistently grew defensive when her boss delivered negative feedback about her performance or attitude. She spent most of the day following a performance appraisal crying in the ladies’ loo.
How can Sharynn develop strategies to overcome this, and to create positive comments about her attitude at work?

Get Over It

| I think it prudent to start off by saying that I am an unabashed Eagles fan going all the way back to when I heard their first album and the song, “Take It Easy,” in 1972. It’s not just their country rock sound, but the lyrics to their songs. They tell stories which resonate for so many of us, most certainly for me.
The other day, while reading the newspaper with my morning coffee and toast, another one of those news stories came on the radio -- you know the ones I’m talking about. The person blames someone else, something else, and everything else, for all their perceived hardship in life. It wouldn’t be the first time, or the last, and that I am quite sure of. Now normally, I would have just moved past all the blah, blah, blah and not given it another thought, but right after the news the Eagles song, “Get Over It” came on the radio. |

| It is not about how we measure up to the person next to us. Our society of competition pushes people to be at their best and if they have strong self respect then they can weather the times when they do not come in first. However, for many it is a killer of both self esteem and self respect because there can only be so many winners in a competitive environment.
