Lesson #3: Liven Things Up
“I lose my self-restraint and just get up and dance sometimes,” says Turner.

Bad Boy Makes Good: Turner’s Success Factors
With his background in the classics, Turner had a penchant for recounting the successes of its greatest heroes: “When Alexander the Great took control when his dad died, he was twenty years old. He took the Macedonian Army, which was the best army in the world at the time, and conquered Greece, got the Greeks to all join with him, and then marched across the Hellespont and invaded Asia. They didn’t even know where the world ended at that time. And he was dead at thiry-three, thirteen years later. He kept marching. He hardly ever stopped. And he never lost a battle.”

Lesson #2: Keep Your Wits About You
In 1974, when Forbes asked Buffett how he felt about the stock market at the time, Buffett replied, “Like an oversexed guy in a whorehouse.” Whether it was talking to the media about smart investments or explaining the company’s performance in his annual letter to shareholders, Buffett never lost his sense of humour. Indeed, it became one of his trademarks for which he is revered.

Investor\'s Insight: How Buffett Created an Empire

In His Own Words: Paul Newman’s Recipe for Success
“I have taken roads that I wished I had not traveled on,” says Newman. “And I’m traveling on some pretty exciting ones, too. Just hope when you get to that great racetrack in the sky that the balance will tip slightly into those things that you’d be proud of.” Today, Newman has much to be proud of. Not only has he left a legacy of films that have forever changed the landscape of American cinema, but he has donated over $200 million from the profits of Newman’s Own to thousands of different charities. What were the factors that led to Newman’s success both on screen and off?

Lesson #1: Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously
Newman once pictured his own epitaph as reading: “Here lies Paul Newman, who died a failure because his eyes turned brown.” He may be one of the most successful on screen actors of our time, but to hear Newman speak you would never know it. Indeed, despite his iconic status, Newman credits his ability to laugh at himself and his reluctance to take himself too seriously as the single largest factor behind his success today.

Sales and Up-Selling is No Joke
Everyday in addition to the basic spam of email, friends send me jokes. Some are funny, some are not. Those that are truly funny have a nugget of wisdom or enlightenment within. Here's a story that I like and it not only makes sense, but delivers a common sense sales message that we can all learn from. And, that's no laughing matter.

Putting the Success Books On The Couch: Notes from Dr. Kevin Fleming
The self-help industry and success books are a huge bestseller to the American public. Many of the points of the success gurus certainly "make sense". But are all things that make sense TRUE? Read on for this key distinction....

You Should Also Do It.
I could go on all day, but the fact is we see Joint Ventures all the time with large business. It’s been going on for centuries. Why? Because it makes a lot of sense. It makes EVEN MORE sense when small businesses do it, especially when they do it with no money and no risk!

The Avoidable Bane of Incompetency
"A surprisingly large number of people claim to have worked for a manager who was clearly incompetent. Some people even believe, that in certain sectors, the incompetent outnumber the competent. This book looks at when, why and how managers become incompetent and what to do about it. It does so with both science and humour by reviewing what we know about competences, about personality theory and about various salient psychiatric disorders."

A Spectacular Sales Example of Something REALLY Stupid
Don't think your customers get excited about the unexcitable. Promotions are important to selling. Absolutely. But they have to be promotions that actually MEAN something to your customer. A promotion has to create a sense of urgency, a sense of excitement, momentum - a "Ooooooooooh - I'd LOVE that!" kind of feeling.

Common Sense and Success
We are all born with five senses: sight, sound, touch, taste and smell. These senses help us navigate our way through the world. They bring us delight in small things. They also warn us when danger threatens. However, I believe that we all have a sixth, and underused sense, our common sense. Your common sense helps you make the right decision in ambiguous situations -- but only if you use it. When I tell people that I'm the Common Sense Guy, people often come back with Will Rogers' saying, "Common sense isn't all that common." I disagree. I think that we all have innate common sense. It's a natural gift, just like our five other senses. We don't always use it though. If you are willing to let your common sense guide you today, you can use it as a guide tomorrow, the next day, next week and next month.

Out-of-Work Architects Turn to Stalled Projects
There is a mismatch between stalled projects that make some economic sense and the billions of real estate investment dollars on the sidelines. There just seemed to be a lot of stories about how projects that seemed like they made a lot of economic sense just couldn’t get financing.
