Six Characteristics of Leaders
| |
| A friend invited me to hear Rudolph Guiliani, the former mayor of New York City, speak at a local college. The list below captures what he spoke about. Guiliani told us that after September 11th he had to make many decisions very quickly. He would make 4 or 5 and then close his eyes and pray, "Please make this right." The first characteristic "Strong Beliefs" speaks to that as does my song title above.

Hugh Hefner Roast
| |
| In 2001, just weeks after the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001, the New York Friars Club went ahead with its scheduled Hugh Hefner Roast. The Friars Club is a club located in New York City, which has become famous for its risqué roasts of celebrities. It was founded in 1904, and has since roasted such notable celebrities as Milton Berle, Sammy Davis, Jr., George Burns, Johnny Carson, Nat ‘King’ Cole, Harry Belafonte, Jerry Lewis, Chevy Chase, Richard Pryor, Pamela Anderson, and Donald Trump. In recent years, their roasts have been televised on Comedy Central, and members of the public have even been invited to attend the live tapings. |

Together We Can
| |
| After the events of September 11th, we saw individuals throughout the United States and the world come together as one - red, white, and blue. The differences in our personalities, race, gender, nationality, religious beliefs, etc. still existed but our very diversity became a way to show the terrorists that we are all different in many ways but still unite as one - red, white, and blue!
Wouldn't it be nice if we could harness that same energy in our companies so that we worked together as one (but without the tragedy)? You can!!!

Preserving the Dignity of Our Workforce
| |
| We Americans celebrate Labor Day each September as a reminder of how those who toil daily are important to their families and to the country. I might offer to you that the first Monday in September is also Employers’ Day, for without employers, there are no employees. We in the human resource profession find ourselves in a no-man’s land as both an advocate for our employees and an instrument of our employers. Guest Writer Richard Virgilio explains. |
