What is There About You that You dont Want Anyone to Know
A Shadow Belief is the unconscious belief that influences our entire lives, tell us what we can and cannot do, while driving our behaviors. What is the result of turning our backs on our dark side-- A life only half lived. Dreams that are never realized, or worse, that lay buried under years of resignation and shame. The shadow is the keeper of all the aspects that we dislike and the qualities that we judge as unacceptable. Most of us are convinced that we are flawed and inadequate so we become masters of disguise, and go to great lengths to hide our bad qualities from those around us – even from ourselves.

The Black Sheep of the Family: Thomas Watson Jr.’s Early Years
When Thomas Watson Jr. stepped into his father’s shoes as president of IBM in 1952, he knew they would be hard ones to fill. Until not long before, Watson Jr.’s life had consisted in large part of drinking and partying. IBM had always been a part of his life, but only in the context of his father’s job. Was he ready to take the reins of this multinational company? Could he break out from his father’s shadow and create his own legacy?

Are you a ground hog?
It is the time of year when we have this interesting holiday called “Ground Hog’s Day”. For we who live in the Midwest, we pray that he doesn’t see his shadow, for it gives us hope of an early spring. If he does see his shadow, we are destined for 6 more weeks of winter (of course, in Minnesota, that is not a bad option.) What an interesting holiday??!!

To know yourself, know your shadow
It is a common experience. You speak to a friend about some strong negative feelings you have about someone else. Your friend, being a true friend, says, "but aren't you a bit like that too?" You of course don't like to hear this, but it gets you thinking. Maybe you can be a bit like it too. That's a useful admission since it then helps you to manage that characteristic in yourself. This is the sort of self-awareness that is crucial to our growth, to get that the people in our lives are in some way a mirror of ourselves. The concept of the shadow, from Carl Jung, is one of the great insights from 20th century psychology that is invaluable to those of us who seek to build effective relationships with others.

Lesson #4: Everything Happens in its Own Time
It did not matter where Kellogg went in his life or what he did, his brother, John Harvey, was eight years older than him and he never let him forget it. As young boys, J.H. would regularly beat on his younger brother, and use him as a foot warmer during many a cold winter night. While J.H. was the loud and flamboyant child, Kellogg was shy, and fell into the shadow of his older brother. He was encouraged to join his father’s broom business, while his brother went off to a prestigious medical school.

Prospecting, the #1 Job for the CEO
Does your company need more sales? Iˇ¦ll assume that for the majority, the answer is yes. When did you last schedule and then spend an hour prospecting for your business? With the mountain of things to get done each day and the number of people looking for time on your calendar, there is just no way that you can do that too. Maybe you donˇ¦t really prospect, but leave that up to your sales manager and sales team. Beware! You must cast the shadow, walk the talk and be the lead prospector so that your team understands that prospecting and bringing in new business is the number one job. Even for you.

Sales Commitment and Shadow of the Leader
“You have to understand that people stand in the shadow of the leader.” This comment came from the top executive of a very large corporate client of ours. And I had to ask, “George, what do you mean, shadow of the leader? He replied, “It’s pretty simple, Tony. People will do what they see the leader do, not what the leader says.”

3 No-Cost Google Tools Every Small Business Should Be Using In Their Marketing
As business owners we often are so buried by the never ending avalanche of advice and to-dos that we fail to see the really valuable, useful information that is right under our noses. Sometimes we even pay for the same useful information when it’s in fact FREE and available elsewhere. While Google may be the giant that casts a long shadow over everything we do online, it’s actually pretty friendly to “small.”
