You Get More Flies with Sugar

| Let's be serious. If you're having problems, anyone asking you about them already knows what's up. So cowboy-up and face the music. Be open and honest. You don't have to share the dirty laundry and all the details. But you can be honest, open and paint a picture that is true. People respect other people that open the kimono and tell the truth. And guess what, customers are people!

Lesson #1: Creative Brilliance is the Bridge to Success

“It takes a big idea to attract the attention of consumers and get them to buy your product,” wrote Ogilvy. “Unless your advertising contains a big idea, it will pass like a ship in the night. I doubt if more than one campaign in a hundred contains a big idea.” Ogilvy was an advertising executive who praised the virtues of creativity; if an ad didn’t sell, it was because it wasn’t creative. His years of experience taught him that people were not going to buy a product if the ad was boring; only interest and curiosity would entice people to buy.

Six levels of competitive readiness: How to get ready for the ambush...

To succeed today you need more than the right product or service. As soon as the market catches on, someone else will find a way to provide a similar product or service. To stay a step ahead of this competition you must already have a plan to move your product or service up a hierarchy of competitive levels. Once you have provided the need at one level, you have to be prepared to provide the need at the next level. This is product readiness for the competitive ambush ahead. This is how to stay ahead of the competition with what Theodore Levitt once described as the generic product, the expected product, the augmented product, and the potential product.

5. Penetration Selling -- Penetrating the Barriers to Understanding

| In Penetration Selling, we therefore recognize that the key barriers which need to be penetrated during the presentation are:
• Anything that might block the prospect from achieving a full understanding of the product, and even more importantly,
• Anything that might block the prospect from gaining a good understanding of how the product will more than adequately satisfy his key needs and wants for owning that product.
For a prospect to develop sufficient interest in and desire for acquiring a product, he needs to not only become familiar with the features of that product, but he needs to additionally become convinced that the benefits which that product offers him will more than satisfy his specific purposes for acquiring that product. For example...

It's Up To YOU To Get Yourself Out of Funk

A few years back, my relationship was not looking much healthier than the insane one that came before it. He had some issues that were clearly not designed to empower a committed relationship. He needed to do something about those issues or I was going to jump ship. Well, he wouldn’t. So I did something about it and didn’t jump ship.

QuickBooks Scenario For A Real Client of Mine

A new client came to me and asked how they could get QuickBooks to work for their type of business. Basically, they prepare a quote. If the customer bites, they get 50% down before proceeding on the job. However, they don't want the down payment to show as income. I agreed. They need to show the inventory reduction to make sure this stuff is saved and put aside for this customer. When they finish building the product, they ship and send an invoice at that time for the remaining 50% that's owed to them. Here is what I suggested they do, which they are doing now.

Let’s Talk Trash

It is easy to generate enormous amounts of trash on a rehab project. These take up a huge space in containers and then there is always that last load that mysteriously turned up. Some folks will order a 40 yard debris box only to have the neighbors fill it up overnight with their old appliances and what not. Depending on the neighborhood the problem can be either better or worse. Before creating any construction debris, I have followed a policy of “a clean ship is a happy ship.”
