Humble Beginnings: The Early Years of ‘Coco’ Chanel
| |
| The simple mention of the name ‘Chanel’ and images of luxury, grandeur and haute couture spring up in minds across the world. As one of the most recognized and venerated brands in fashion history, Chanel came from the impoverished streets of France to revolutionize women’s fashion and liberate it from its restrictions. Thirty years after her death, Chanel’s lasting impact on the fashion world can still be felt. |

Coco Chanel Bio
| |
| The Coco Chanel bio is a story that begins far removed from the opulence that her name would later come to represent. Born in Saumur, France, in 1883, Gabrielle Bonheur ‘Coco’ Chanel was the illegitimate daughter of a shop girl – who would die soon after – and a traveling salesman – who would abandon his daughter on the streets of France. It was her two aunts, with whom she was sent to live, who would teach the young girl the etiquette that would come to shape the Coco Chanel bio. |

Lesson #1: Create a Brand that Can Be Loved, Honoured, and Obeyed
| |
| When Wang first opened up shop on Madison Avenue in New York, she was not just selling wedding dresses; what Wang was selling was service. Her goal was to help the women “that are running around looking for special dresses, looking to have everything taken care of because they have busy lives.” To that end, Wang’s shop also helped brides with their jewelry, shoes, hairdos, and more. “I’m creating an image, a brand and a name,” she says. |

Smart Women Think Like 10 Year Olds!
| |
| This article is about reflecting on who you were as a 10 year old girl----before hormones and society began to manipulate your thinking. Are you still the authentic girl you were at 10? As women, we take on many roles between the ages of 16-35. Along the way, it can be a challenge to maintain our core, our authentic selves. It’s essential that we return to that place—our core so that we can live a full passionate and purposeful life. |

How to control Shoplifting ? (Remedies to Shoplifting)
| |
| Not all of the following practical suggestion will apply to your retail business as the level of shop theft committed against your premises will depend on a range of factors.
These include:
1. The type of goods you sell
2. The location
3. The layout of your shop and the style and location of your displays
4. The local crime rate
5. The hours you trade
6. The number of staffs you employ and their experience
You need to consider all of your circumstances and then choose the preventive measures, which suits you the best. Remember - all retailers are at risk. Never think that your type of business isn’t. |

How is blogging good for a business?
| |
| There’s a shop, which has opened recently, very near to where I live. I pass it every day during my walks and not once have I seen a customer in there. Not once!
The shop in question is a clothes hire shop. You can hire ball-gowns, dinner suits, kilts, wedding dresses…that sort of thing.
I think they are in the wrong location but they need to start marketing and I think blogging would be a great way to start. They have a website. The domain name is underneath the shop front logo. |

Make it easy for your customers to buy!
| |
| If you want your customers to spend with you why not make it easy?
This may seem obvious to you, but it is not always obvious to most business owners and I would like to get you thinking a bit here. Let me explain by example...
I have just got back from a break myself and the guy that owned the apartments also owned the small supermarket down the road. The apartments were self catering so it would be good for the owner if the people staying there were to cook food and purchased from his shop.
When we arrived he took time to mention his shop so that we would visit, which we duly did and I am sure you are waiting for the but here...and there is and not just one the way I see it. |

Square Peg Round Hole
| |
| In his wonderful book The Element, Sir Ken Robinson tells a story that I’m sure many people can relate to. In it, a young girl named Gillian is having trouble concentrating at school. The school – suspecting a learning disability – asks her mother to take 8-year-old Gillian to see a psychiatrist for evaluation. After hearing from the girl’s mother how the girl is always disturbing her classmates, her homework is sloppy and always late – the doctor asks to speak with Gillian alone. Before escorting the mother outside for a private conference, the doctor turns on the radio in the room to occupy Gillian.
As soon as the music began to play, the girl was on her feet. From outside the room, Gillian’s mother observed for a few minutes as she moved beautifully to the music, dancing around the room, lost in a childlike trance. |

“…So you’re sayin’ there’s a chance?”
| |
| Okay, my tastes in movies are not very refined – I like funny and happy. Remember that great scene in Dumb and Dumber where Lloyd (Jim Carrey) and Harry (Jeff Daniels) have driven across the country to reconnect with Lloyd’s dream girl, Mary (Lauren Holly)? Lloyd: What do you think the chances are of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together? |
