A Great Book Week
| |
| One of my favorite things about going dark for a week is that I get to consume a bunch of books. Since we’ve been back from Alaska, my reading pace has been slower than normal, so it was nice to have plenty of uninterrupted time to lay on a couch and read. I usually manage to read a book a day on vacation - this time I only gobbled down five. All but one was great. |

Maybe we need Incompetent web developers
| |
| For the past couple of days I haven't blogged very much, mainly because I've been very busy with Peupe from a development point of view as well as from a business angle. So today on my way to our company executive meeting I decided to carry a book to read - if you've experienced public road transport in Kenya then I'm sure you'll understand why I carried a book to read but that is another story for another day. |

When and How to Get Feedback on Your Book-in-Progress
| |
| If you’re writing a book, eventually you need to get feedback on your writing skills, the material itself, and whether or not your goals were accomplished in the manuscript. After all, the goal of writing a book is to communicate with readers, and if no one has read your book at press time, you’ll never know whether your message is perceived the way you intend it to be perceived. You can read it yourself over and over again, but you won’t be able to get a sense of how others interpret your book without letting someone else read it.

The Art of Book Branding
| |
| You wrote your book for others to read. True? You wrote it to offer others enjoyment, excitement, help and/or training. Don’t you owe it to your prospective readers to put the book share the book in a really big way? Don’t you owe it to yourself?
To get started I’ve created a short checklist for branding YOU and your book. |

The Secret - Ancient Scrolls and Their Impact on the Sales Force
| |
| Al Turrisi was kind enough to give me a book called the Power of the Kabbalah. Its ancient scrolls originated around 4,000 years ago, inspired The Secretand predate Moses and the Bible! Since this book is not the Kabbalah itself, rather a Cliff Notes version, it tends to read more like a self-help book. It is far more powerful than a self-help book though as it points to a number of rules that will cause a transformation in one's life. |

Salespeople Should be More Like Children
| |
| Our son wrote a book today. He illlustrated it too. No big deal? He just turned 7.
He loves to read and apparently, he must have felt that there weren't enough new books arriving in his room so he decided to create a Pokeman book to read instead.
I can't wait until he's old enough to sell something because this behavior translates! When there aren't enough new leads coming in he will simply create his own. |

What Are You Asking For?
| |
| A friend stopped into my office today and suggested I read the book “Women Don’t Ask” by Linda Babcock. While I haven’t read the book yet, the conversation got me thinking about success (of course!). |

Just Starting to Write? How to Get Help and Improve Your Writing Skills
| |
| The other day I was talking to a woman who was frustrated by the fact that she'd given her friend the first three chapters of her book to read and offer feedback, and weeks later her friend still hadn't read the pages. This was the woman's first book and she hadn't written anything since high school. |

A review of the book, Pitch Anything, by Oren Klaff
| |
| As President of the B2B demand generation company, Find New Customers, and a prolific blogger, I’m often invited to do book review. But after doing quite a few, one grows jaded a bit – so we ask tough questions.
The two questions I ask every time I do a book review:
Does the book bring fresh insights and perspective?
Is the book well written and easy to read?
Only a book that gets a “Yes” on both questions gets a 5 star review. |
