On Tue, Sep 8, 2009 in a speech reminiscent of the challenges of entrepreneurship, president Obama admonished the young minds to never give up. Once again, president Obama has used his oratorical skill in finally quenched the fire that encapsulate his planned speech to the nation's student and stirred us all to challenge obstacles and actualize our goals. Obama told the students "Take responsibility and refuse to let failure define you"... The president affirmed "If you quit, you are not just quitting on yourself, you are quitting on your country".

The most important thing to know about your strategic plan.
As part of the product development process for RapidInfluence we had numerous sessions with individuals both inside and outside of our target market. The purpose of these discussions were to work through the premises of our Strategic Planning Manifesto and to preview the first version of our product. One of the more insightful sessions we had was with Ian Smith of Portfolio Partnership and the author of The Smith Report, a must read for growth companies. In our session we discussed the need for companies to create strategic plans and more importantly to implement them. During our discussion, Ian rightly pointed out that success in strategic plan implementation was largely dependent on knowing what the status of various action items are within the strategic plan.

My mother used to say, "As the twig is bent, the tree shall grow." I believe that Ruth Simmons, once president of the highly-prestigious Smith College in Massachusetts, is the classic example of the truth of that statement. She is currently serving as President of Brown University. She is also the epitome of the American Dream and living proof that it is still alive and well in America.
A Century Of Leadership - Good And Bad
It might be simplistic, and I certainly invite discussion, but today I'm ranking the men who've held the office of President since 1911 in terms of how well they did in resisting this "progress" toward socialism/collectivism by their overall support of the U.S. Constitution. My thinking is this: if, as the foremost leader of the federal government, the president can do a good job at fulfilling his/her oath to uphold the Constitution, prosperity generally becomes much easier to obtain in America (and, frankly, elsewhere in the world). When the president fails to protect the Constitution (or, worse, attacks it), he or she aids the progressive march toward collectivism - but pulls the nation away from prosperity and strength....
Who Says There Are No Jobs?
Despite record levels of unemployment, we all know, of course, that our president is on the case. He's the Jobs President... if you don't believe it, just ask him, or any of his sycophantic Demediacrats! But only those who are sufficient Biblical scholars to have heard of Job (with a capital "J") understand that it's really a case of mispronunciation of the vowel....
Leadership Insight: Stump the Dummy
A game for the entire organization to play. And many do play it regularly. Stump the Dummy goes something like this: “How are you doing with that Smith file” says a senior level manager to a mid level manager. Or the company president asks a unit executive “where are we at with the remodeling of the meeting rooms?” Or the mayor asks a department head about the pothole on main street.

A timeless principle of inside out leadership is continuous personal growth. When U.S. Supreme Court associate justice, Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., was hospitalized at the age of 92, President Roosevelt went to visit him. He found Holmes reading a Greek Primer. "Why are you reading that?" the president asked. The great jurist replied, "Why, Mr. President, to improve my mind."

You've heard the old joke, the one they tell every year at this time: "Know why they aren't having Thanksgiving in (Chicago)? They sent the turkey to Washington!" Usually, the quip refers to the president - any president - but lately, all the elected federal officials from both parties have been particularly turkey-like....
