Lesson #5: Make Business Personal through Your Relationships
When DeLuca opened up his first Subway store, it was a one-man operation. Occasionally, however, he would convince his mother to help him out. Together, they would drive around town every Friday to visit their four main vendors – the people who supplied them with all of their meat, bread, vegetables and paper. But it was not to pick up any of the supplies.

Enhanced Google Maps for East Africa
On tuesday I had the rare opportunity courtesy of Chris Kiagiri, Technical Lead at Google Kenya to have a sneak peek at the upcoming enhanced google mpas for east africa and let me say it was truly awesome. The amount of detail in this new version is quite amazing, a quick look at the nairobi map goes as far down as streets, buildings (building name and icon) and even adds information to indicate if the street is one way or two way. The enhanced maps currently cover major cities and towns in East Africa including Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Dar es Salaam.

The Pros, Cons of Working, Playing in the Clouds
Don't you just love all the fun, the advantages, the freedom, the freakin mystery of the cloud? Look up -- they're light, they're fluffy, they're everywhere. Heck they're even green, ecofriendly...right? But ever so often something is dark on the horizon and the sucka comes roaring in and does some serious damage. Or it can sneak up quietly and SPLAT! slap you where it hurts...really hurts. Cloud computing is like the last wild frontier (sure we'll have more but cloud computing/storage is one biggie) where anything, anyone can go...and it does/they do. It isn't for the faint of heart and it isn't for the dumb ones but it sure attracts them like flies.

Tips on Buying a Business- What Can You Afford?
What can you afford when it comes to buying a business? Let's do a reality check here. Unless you have some incredible experience at a top level in an industry and some kind of solid personal collateral to back you up, forget those that say you can buy a business with no money. It's not true even is you get Seller financing or bank financing. Somebody is putting up the money and your history is what gets you those people who will agree to back you. And if none of your money is involved then these are mid-market to large business transactions that require loads of experience to be considered. So unless you have that kind of experience and people to back you up with their money, you need to take a reality check and think about what you can afford. This article is a sneak peek at that thought process.

Leadership Development: FUD to FUN
The FUD Factor tends to sneak up just around the time of the changing of the seasons. This is where at work you may be falling short of what was projected for the first quarter. FUD FACTOR: fear, uncertainty and doubt have a way of making the lights dimmer, the tinsel less sparkly, the bells sound tinny, and the gifts not just right. There is a certain need to be perfect, to be disappointed if we come up even just a few inches short of what we think should have happened. We are hard on ourselves; and way too often, we are also hard on those around us.
