Staying Informed/Current

The Information Age has changed our society just as greatly, if not more than, the Industrial Revolution changed the farming society of the 1800s. It's a fast-paced wired world, with news flashing around the world almost instantly, e-mail connecting far-flung correspondents all over the globe, and information bombarding us from all sides.

Mademoiselle Coco Chanel

In her inner circle of friends, fashion designer Coco Chanel was known as ‘Mademoiselle’. Over her fifty-odd year career of running her own business, she came to be considered as the ‘Grande Mademoiselle’ of both the fashion industry and high society. Coco Chanel not only revolutionized what women wore, but also the roles they were supposed to play in society.

Public Relations Jobs

It is ironic that in an industry that has as one of its main aim the protection of reputation, people with public relations jobs are often not regarded very highly by the rest of society. They are called spin doctors for the way they are uniquely able to turn the truth into what they want it to be. As a result, while they might be considered good at what they do and well regarded within the industry, within society at large, they are looked down upon.

17.0 What Needs to be Done - Mainstreaming Entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship in Africa

The fourth and final factor that is needed involves the mainstreaming of African entrepreneurship. There has been a tendency to treat entrepreneurs either as marginal members of society and the economy, or to romanticize them as heroes or saviors even when they make little or negative contributions to society and the economy. Both treatments are erroneous.

It Coulda Been Me

In today’s society, so much is based on scales, decided by tests, and judged by comparison. It’s no wonder that society, as a whole, has issues about achievement and the quest for success. Success, like most other things is viewed as a goal that has levels, and all too many people believe that they are incapable of achieving true success. Why is this? The universal Law of Equality states that the dreams and desires of each person are just as important as the next, as is their fulfillment.

How to trust yourself

| “Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.” – Golda Meir
Is there a “right” way to live and how do we know when we are successful? Is it based on our personal definition of success or our perception of our local society’s definition? In society there is a definition of success that, in the past, I have grasped to supplement my own limited ideas about what I wanted to do. |

The Two Most Devastating Vanity Goals

There are two common goals that are promoted in American society more than any other to the point that people believe they are concrete and valuable goals to achieve. Most importantly, most devastating, is that these goals are so superficial and irrelevant, but negatively mind altering, that a person or business cannot do anything but fail trying to meet them. And if they are achieved, they are done so at the peril of a person's character and integrity. These are called "vanity goals", goals that should be avoided at all costs if you want your personal and business lives to succeed and make a difference. This article describes the two most common vanity goals that have caused the most destruction by far in our society. Free your mind of these and you lay the course to achieve real purpose.

In Leadership Character Trumps Competence

We live in a society that thrives on 15-minutes-of-fame thrill rides. Reality shows like The Apprentice, where Donald Trump baits and then summarily fires contestants, dominate TV ratings. These shows frequently glorify the bad behavior that seems to be slowly, but surely, seeping into our society. The 24-hour news cycle is an endless stream of stories about leaders who have been caught doing bad things. In the midst of this barrage it is easy to lose faith that leaders can actually do good and serve others; that men and women of character still exist.
