Manhattan Fish Market Franchise now in Five Countries

| 31st January 2010: Wahono Saputra was on a trip to Singapore with his wife, Sally Dewi Mulyadi Tan, a few years ago when they saw chefs at a restaurant prepare the dish in such a way that it burst into flames. The preparation was done in front of the guests. He was intrigued by this, and he and his wife both fell in love with the first dish, later deciding to open their first franchise in Jakarta, which they called the Manhattan Fish Market. |

Tata's Trent, UK's Arcadia may set up 15 apparel stores in India

| Trent, the retail arm of the Tatas, plans to open around 15 stores of Topshop and Topman brands in the country in the next three years, in a franchise agreement with Britain's Arcadia group, said an informed source. |

How about the phrase “Experience is the best teacher?” Or how about this gem, “What you don’t know won’t hurt you?” And what about, “He or she is a born sales person” or “Ignorance is bliss”?
As I work these days with sales people and sales managers across Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia I see so many examples of why beliefs like these are so dangerous.Experience is not the best teacher |

How Business Boosts Development

| The experience of the richer powers today shows that the private sector provides the base for a country's development, said Paul Martin, Prime Minister of Canada. Visitors to most developing countries see evidence of widespread entrepreneurship in bazaars and markets and of the skills possessed by local people. So why have these nations not also been able to make the same economic advances as countries in Europe and North America? One explanation he has heard, said Martin, is that indigenous business has no confidence that it will be able to overcome the various administrative barriers that dominate economic life, that property rights can be protected, or that legal systems can bring real justice. How far is this true? he asked his fellow panellists.

Foremost, microfinance initiatives can effectively address material poverty, the physical
deprivation of goods, services, and the income to attain them. When properly guided, the
material benefits of microfinancing can extend beyond the household into the community. At
the personal level, microfinance can effectively address issues associated with “non-material
poverty, which includes social and psychological effects that prevent people from realizing their
potential. |

| Feb 16, 2010: Footwear and apparel player Woodland will open exclusive stores in select foreign markets later this year, marking its foray into single-brand retailing overseas. The company, according to its top official, would be using the franchise route for its international expansion. The home-grown brand is in advanced stages of negotiations in some markets like the Middle East, South-East Asia and Sri Lanka for selecting local franchise partners and said it will have three to four exclusive outlets abroad by the year-end. At present, Woodland is present in over 600 multibranded outlets in the Middle East, Singapore and Thailand. |
