Yes, I Mind Waiting - 10 ways to reduce lineup stress for staff and customers
Most managers' idea of dealing with a sudden lineup of customers is to simply have the staff work harder and faster. The problem is that employees soon get tired and begin making errors -- which takes more time to fix later-on. Worse, employees under stress can become irritable with customers -- which destroys repeat business. "Yes, I Mind Waiting" reveals 10 ways to manage lineups without making the staff work at full speed.

Presentation And Writing Skills Training Yields Effective Business Communication Skills
The key to effective business communication is getting to the point, what Navy SEALs I worked with in a seminar called BLUF -- bottom line up front. Whether trying to sharpen your business writing skills or presentation skills, the key is to tell your reader or audience what you want (or what you want them to understand) and then tell them why that's important. For any writer practicing effective communication, that starts with "five Ws and one H" -- who, what, when, why, where and how. The SEALs understood that all their hard-won knowledge has little value if they can't develop the communication skills to share it with the people who set policy, spend money and make far-reaching decisions. And those people are busy, so communication training, whether for writing skills or presentation skills, has to focus on brevity,

Ten Tips on Delegating
One way to manage your time more effectively is to delegate work to others on your staff or to contract workers you hire for specific projects. How often I hear such comments as, "It takes too much time to delegate." "If I delegate the work there is no guarantee that the work will be done properly. It is just easier to do it myself." "No one can do this as well as I can." If others who have a lower hourly rate can do the work while you focus on the work only you can do, your cash flow will be better because you can do more of the work that only you can do.

Tipping the scales.
How do we maintain a good balance at home and at work? Managing a household is not dissimilar to the way we manage our business. In both situations we need to be recognized as a leader, setting a good example, and providing lots of opportunities for our staff – and our children – to develop and grow. For instance, we have family meetings where we can resolve any conflicts that may arise. In the same way, staff meetings are a chance to air any differences and agree on a way forward. It’s OK not to be involved every step of the way. Let your staff - and your children - have their own space.

Work Life Harmony, Rather Than Work Life Balance
Work life balance suggests people are living two lives, one at work and one away from work. But people don't 'work' for five days or more and 'live' for two days or less. Work is just one of many roles that people perform in their week. No matter where they are or what they are doing, day or night, people are carrying personal baggage, problems, responsibilities, personal goals and work goals. Separation of work and personal life roles has become a blur and, to many of us, almost a seamless link. Family friendly policies are now only one aspect of the work life balance issue. Work life balance has become a key factor in attracting and retaining good staff, male and female in a buyers market generated by a shortage of quality skilled staff.

5 Timestealers You Must Avoid
Gary has a business, employing 7 staff. When he contacted me he was at a point where the stress from his business was so bad, that he would constantly wake up 3 or 4 times a night worried about everything ...his cash flow, staff, lack of clients and the affect all this was having on his personal well-being and family life. He didn't use a diary, had no way of planning and kept everything 'in his head'.Often his staff were idle because he hadn't spent time training them. That ensured the work didn't get done therefore causing Gary to lose clients.

Trade Shows Versus “Afraid” Shows
What is your level of participation in your industry’s trade shows? Either you work for a company who writes the check and controls the exhibit, do you send a few representatives of your sales staff to “work the floor”, or do you send your sales staff to “attend” the show, learn and observe? Regardless, your team members will require a specific skill set in order to perform effectively at the show.

12 Steps to Implementing Anything in Your Business: Overview
Knowing what to do to improve and grow your business is a far cry from actually getting it done, in other words, execution. You might well ask why execution is so important. Firstly, no matter how well a business is doing, if you look deep enough you will find problems and mistakes in the execution performance of the staff, work started but not completed, work delivering less than promised, error and rework having to be done, returns and refunds etc. Second your staff, I am willing to bet, have never been trained on how to execute properly and truth be told if you want to grow and build your business your staff simply need to execute far better in order to keep up with and get ahead of the rapidly and constantly changing marketplace.

Who Cares about Work-Life Balance?
Whether you manage one person, or lead an organization with thousands of employees, supporting your staff to create a better work-life balance makes sense and cents. When people you work with feel you respect their work-life balance and allow them some autonomy in their choices, they will feel more valued, more engaged, and more committed to the organization. You can make a difference in your employees work-life balance by giving them support and tools to make choices that fit with each person’s individual work-life preferences. Keeping your staff satisfied keeps them working well and working for you.

Please talk to me!
What are you supposed to do if your work place management is problematical or even considered (by the staff) as poor and your staff don’t like where they are working? Try improving communications. With all the modern means of communication, why is it that people don’t talk to each other? Communicating with the workforce, down to an individual level, to let them know what is going on and how they are tracking and the importance of their contribution is vital for harmonious relationships and individual staff members general well being. Yet this is a significant failing in many organisations.
