Knowledge And The Intellectural Capital Of The Organization

| In the new economy of the millennium, knowledge has emerged as an asset to be valued, developed and managed. The quest for knowledge is not new: in the fourth century BC, Aristotle noted "All men by nature desire knowledge." Now, 25 centuries later, knowledge drives the global economy. No longer is knowledge considered only an individual's personal wisdom; knowledge is a component of the intellectual capital of organizations (Stewart 1997). |

The Value Of Knowledge To The Organization

| Since knowledge is an intangible asset, it is difficult to assign a value to it. Its amorphous nature exacerbates this difficulty. Lew Platt, former CEO of Hewlett Packard, has acknowledged the dilemma: "If HP know what HP knows, we would be three times as profitable." Intellectual capital is collective knowledge, but who collects it and who disseminates it? Successful and competitive organizations are rich in knowledge, but whose knowledge is it and and who assigns value to it? Values assigned to knowledge may differ. For example, knowledge May have one value for the organization, another for shareholders, yet another for current and potential partners, and still one more for individuals within the organization. |

Because we're people who don't get regular pay cheques like the rest of the madding crowd. We ONLY get paid when we SELL. (Now look in the mirror because I just pasted a BIG Star on your forehead!)

Mentoring is a special relationship between a master and an apprentice. You can find good examples in modern culture: Obiwan Kanobee and Luke Skywalker from Star Wars and Cane (David Carradine) from the old Kung Fu TV series. In centuries past this was the only way to pass on critical knowledge of a craft. The mentor's role was to teach, coach and encourage.

Why Good Looking Mobile Home Parks Have Ugly Returns

| Some mobile home park buyers have this erroneous idea that the goal is to buy a great looking asset. They even rate the parks they look at based on physical appearance. The star system is a good example. Most people think a five-star park is always superior to a one star park. However, the only real star system they should consider is which park is a superstar on cash flow. Because at the end of the day, all that really matters when you own a mobile home park is making money. Parks that make money are great, no matter how ugly they are, and parks that lose money are dogs, despite how cute their entry may be. And, as a general rule, the prettier the park, the uglier the cash flow. |

| Remember when you were a kid and the first evening star began to beckon in a slowly dimming sky? Were you the kid who said "star light, star bright, I want the wish I wish tonight?"
Did someone tell you to stop being "so childish" or were you supported in wishing your dream?
It has been said that without vision the people will perish. When we stop looking toward an ideal that we are reaching for the world becomes flat and stale. In all leadership development programs there needs to be a module on keeping dreams alive. |

Can you be a "star" all the time - shining and twinkling high above everyone else, every day? I think a few remarkable people can, but much more attainable for most is being a "star" some of the time. |

Knowledge Is Not Power – It’s What You Do With That Knowledge, That’s What Really Counts

| That’s right. Knowledge is not power. Nope. This is one of the biggest lies out there. Try this instead: “It is the implementation of knowledge that is the real power”.
You see it isn’t what you know that matters, it’s what you do that counts. Knowledge alone won’t fix a thing. It’s what you do with that knowledge; that’s what will make the difference.
