Lessons from the Green

Want to know how to make it to the top of your game? It's easy, if you throw out many of the things you've been taught over and over. Throw out all that John Wayne rugged-individualism. Throw out that prideful "I don't want anything I don't earn myself" B.S. (I've been told I can't say bulls**t in here). The biggest lesson we need to internalize is you cannot get there alone.

Why Put Off Until Tomorrow What You Can Do Today

Ivy Ledbetter Lee was considered to be the father of public relations, even teaching the first PR class at New York University in 1912. He was a consultant for many business moguls of that time: Westinghouse, Lindbergh, Chrysler, and Charles M. Schwab. During his consultancy work for Bethlehem Steel, founded and run by Charles M. Schwab, Lee told president Schwab that, with all Bethlehem Steel accomplished and had to offer, he and his executives should have more effective management skills. Lee told Schwab, “"I can increase your people's efficiency – and your sales – if you will allow me to spend fifteen minutes with each of your executives."

Change Results In Stress

The stress faced by workers is substantial. For many workers, it is intrinsic to the job itself, where competing demands and pressures cannot be escaped. The sheer volume of work can also be overwhelming at times, whether one is a social worker, teacher, doctor, sales person, factory worker, supervisor or manager. Anyone in this kind of job knows, either from their own direct experience or from observing colleagues, that stress can have very serious consequences.

Is Canada really rich in natural resources?: Calculating the effects of Foreign Ownership

| In Toronto, CBC business reporter Jeannie Lee said there is a great deal at stake for Canada — and especially for southern Ontario, where Canada's steel industry is concentrated and where the global slump has already gutted the auto industry.
Canadian steel plants produced almost 16 million tonnes of steel in 2007, employing about 32,000 people and, by one estimate, supporting 140,000 indirect jobs, she said.

Employee vs Independent Contractor

If you own a small business or are thinking about starting one, you will need to have a good understanding of the difference between a regular W-2 employee and a 1099 independent contract. It is usually more beneficial for an employer to have a contractor rather than an employee because the employer does not have to spend the time and effort to do payroll for that worker. Unfortunately, you don't get to just choose which status you put a worker into. The IRS forces you to choose one status or the other based on your relationship with a worker. The more supervision you have over a worker, the more likely it is that the worker should be a W-2 employee. The more independence they have, the more likely it is that they should be a 1099 contractor.
