More Jobs-Steve and Small Business
Many thousands of words have been written about Steve Jobs as a visionary and titan during the past week. They are well deserved. Today however, I’m looking in on his life as an inspiring story for the small business owners of today and tomorrow.

Steve Jobs Bio
The Steve Jobs bio, and the story of the life of a man whose career would rebound more times than many critics thought possible, began in San Francisco, California on February 24, 1955. Born to an unwed American mother and a Syrian father, Jobs was put up for adoption by his parents the week after his arrival in this world. Taken in by Paul and Clara Jobs of Mountain View, California, Jobs dislikes the term “adoptive parents” and considers Paul and Clara the only parents he ever had.

Steve Jobs Apple
He might have been just 21 years old when he founded the company, but under Steve Jobs, Apple grew to become a leader and an innovator in the global computer, software, and electronics industry. In fact, the company is ranked number 159 on the Fortune 500 annual ranking of America’s largest corporations for 2006, with over $13.9 billion in revenues and almost 20,000 employees. Today, Jobs continues to serve as the company’s Chief Executive Officer.

Ten Questions with Scott Berkun, Author of "The Myths of Innovation"
Scott Berkun worked on the Internet explorer team at Microsoft from 1994-1999. He is the author of a recently released book called The Myths of Innovation. He also wrote the 2005 bestseller, The Art of Project Management. He teaches a graduate course in creative thinking at the University of Washington, runs the sacred places architecture tour at NYC’s GEL conference, and writes about innovation, design and management.

Lesson #1: “I’d scrap things together – try this, try this, try this”
Steve Wozniak could not be considered a failure by any stretch of the imagination. However, he has experienced his fair share of failures in his life, and it is to those failures that he attributes his success.

iWoz A Geek: The Early Years of Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak
He might not be as well known as the ‘other’ Steve, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, but Steve Wozniak had just as much impact on the computer industry as we know it today. From designing over 50 mini-computers on paper in school, to founding Apple I and Apple II in the mid-1970s, Wozniak’s passion for the technology has forever changed the way the world does business.

The One Sales and Marketing Idea That Will Separate You From the Crowd
Direct mail, telephone, e-mail, internet, personal sales, networking, newsletters, articles, press releases, e-newsletters, radio shows, radio ads, TV ads, infomercials, billboards, signage, company cars, posters, letters, blogs. These are all good ways to market your business. Every business that employs these techniques will get a certain amount of results. There are dozens of marketing tools that can be used to promote your business, but none of them will make an enormous difference if they are not partnered with something even more important.

On The Job: The Launch Of Apple
While the 26-year-old Wozniak was content with his computer hobbyist group, the 21-year-old Jobs had a greater vision for the future. After seeing a computer that Wozniak had designed for himself, Jobs began to think about the marketability of such products. He convinced Wozniak to leave his job at Hewlett Packard and together the two began working on constructing a personal computer. Jobs’ passion and Wozniak’s engineering talent would soon combine to become a revolutionizing force in the computer industry.

Lesson #3: “Our whole purpose was to help others”
Wozniak and Jobs first met in their high school computer club, Homebrew Computer Club, where, says Wozniak, they created a unique balance together: “I was shy, he was outward.” As the two worked together on Apple, this would morph into a new kind of relationship. “I created, he sold,” says Wozniak.

The New Rules of What-If
If you own a computer or read the news, you’ve probably heard of the “two Steves” – Jobs and Wozniak, who founded Apple Computers in 1976. Far less likely is that you’ve heard of Ron Wayne. He designed the Apple logo and along with Steve Jobs and Wozniak, was one of the original founding partners in Apple. Afraid that their new startup computer company would fail, Ron sold back his 10% stake in Apple for $800, only 12 days after he got it. If he’d held onto that $800 stake, even as a silent partner, today he’d be worth around $22 billion.

Developing Future Focus - Sparking Energy for What Really Matters
I could not put Steve Job’s biography down. I found it so fascinating because of his focus and passion, and the intense drive in his personality that motivated him to achieve greatness. Steve Job’s creativity and genius for creating products that invent the future is so inspiring. Oh Wow!

Success Means Doing What You Do Best
Do what you do best. How many of us try and do everything instead of doing what we do best? A great line I picked up from the biography of Steve Jobs. If it wasn't for Steve, Woz's great innovation would just be in a hobby shop some place. I want you to really think about that. Woz was the expert engineer, but Steve was the expert marketer. Each did what they did best. The result of course is history – Apple. The point we need to take with us today is simply this – we need to let our people do what they are really good at and find someone else to do what they are not very good at. By doing this we create tremendous unbelievable success.

3 Ways to Grow Your Future-Focus
I was mesmerized by Steve Job’s biography. I was fascinated by his focus and passion. Mr. Job’s complex personality motivated him to achieve greatness. Steve Job’s creativity and genius for creating products that invent the future is so inspiring. Oh Wow!
