Lesson #2: Never Surrender
“All my life people have said that I wasn’t going to make it,” said Turner. “They laughed at me when I started with CBS. They laughed at me when I started CNN. They laughed at me when I bought the Braves. They laughed at me when I bought the Hawks. They laughed at me when I bought MGM.” But, the billionaire entrepreneur can now look back on the success of his 40-odd year career and be thankful he never listened to any of those people.

telling stories the brand connection
Today, we're interested in stories, and not particularly interested in facts. Every story needs facts, of course, but they are secondary. The facts are there just to provide some ballast for the story. There are always so many facts that don't fit into the story, and insofar as they don't fit, depending on our commitment to the story, we have a tendency to disregard them. Every good story has some connection to the truth of our experience, but the story's the thing.

Lesson #3: Create the Illusion
Until 1985, what was known about Lauder’s life was limited largely to what she decided to reveal. She had created an image of herself as the Cosmetics Queen whose eternal youth, beauty and class could not risk being marred by the reality of her somewhat plain upbringing. In 1985, that all changed when Lauder learned of the soon-to-be published unauthorized story of her life and she was prompted to write her own biography. But, even with the release of Estee: A Success Story, little was in fact exposed to help break down the myth of the larger than life Lauder.

Crazy Dad Stories
Entrepreneurship requires serious determination. So does life. My friend Andy’s story of his dad’s fractured back reminded me of my favorite story about my dad’s dad.

The Pygmalion Effect
There is a tale from Ancient Greece of how a prince turned a statue from ivory to life and married her. It is the story of Pygmalion. Remarkably, the principles of this story are relevant to modern techniques of leadership. Read this article to find out how.

Master Your Game: 1001 Heart to Heart Hugs
Have you ever decided to do something that was a little odd, but nonetheless followed through on it; then learned some big lessons? The story that follows is something I did on a whim, just to see if I could do it. I had no idea how profound it would be for me, or the impact it would have on others. This crazy idea occurred on my journey to living a balanced game of life. I wanted to move from needing to be in control of everything, to living life with a sense of ease. In golf it is about having a great pre-shot routine, then just letting the swing rip and letting go of the results. This is the secret to working in "the zone." Enjoy this story. Each hug represents one swing at the driving range of life to master my game.

The Most Important PR Secret
What most entrepreneurs and companies don't understand is that often the main job of the PR firm is to find the right story. It's often not the obvious story that works, because that's the same angle that the competition will be pitching. Without the right story and tone, you have a weak campaign, at best. Finding the right story, that's what it all comes down to.

Wounded Wolves --- The Journey Forward
This is a story about finding your way. It's dedicated to any and all people that may have found themselves lost, confused, powerless, in a dead end career, going nowhere and those who may have lost sight of what they really want from life. It's a story about "Wounded Wolves" and making the journey forward. Forward to success, self esteem and pride. Maybe a few of you can relate to this as it's happening now. Or, maybe you were wounded once and remember the journey you had to make to create happiness and success in your life. Being wounded can be a result of many things - a personal crisis, family life, a bad marriage, the way you were raised, poor life decisions, limited exposure to education and learning, and sometimes just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Authentic Transformation
If we are lucky, at some point in our lives we realise that there is more to life than the story we have been told. A few are even luckier and avoid that story.

The Power Of The Subconscious Mind – Taming The Small Voice Inside
Ever heard the phrase “successful people make decisions quickly and change their minds slowly?” If you’re undecided on what you want out of life, there’s no true way to focus on your goals, because honestly, you don’t have any. Let me share with you a story. As days go by, life continuously challenges us. Whether at our mental state, physical state, or financial state, we always are faced with some sort of challenge that at first might seem overwhelming. And as the story goes for a hard working man, his life seemed as if there were too many options to take and just not enough hard core information to make a good decision. So he thought…

How to Maximize Local PR
Whereas I’m a big believer in going national if you have a strong story, there is a lot to be said for regional and local PR coverage. If you have a personal story that has a local slant to it, use it. Maybe a story as to how you built your business, or a story about how your product, service or company helped transform the life of someone else who lives in the community. The media loves transformational stories, so offer them one with a strong local hook. Always give your pitch a local slant. Remember you’re drilling down, pitching narrow, not wide.
