Concrete Ideas on How to Cope With Stress
| |
| Stress is just a part of life and can be found no matter where in the world you go. Is stress merely part of the inescapable human condition? Are we as a species chronically worried and unhappy, or does bad luck simply find us wherever we are? It’s not practical to believe that we are battling against Fate, Chance, or God. Stress does not happen to make our day unbearable. You could say that stress is a natural reaction to an action taken, the consequence of a causative event. For every action there is a reaction and often times the stress that we have to endure is the stress we bring upon ourselves by the choices we make. |

Making Stuff Up...
| |

Emotional Muscles
| |
| EMOTIONS are a huge element in our lives. They affect how we experience the world... and, each emotion serves as a unique filter for our life's experiences. Sometimes it feels that we're at the mercy of our emotions. I'd like to suggest how we can take greater control of our lives by more consciously choosing some of our emotions.
I believe emotions play a powerful role in helping us achieve our goals, dreams, and in creating fulfilling lives. The more we "feel" an emotion... the more we attract that into our lives. Simply put....joy breeds joy. Stress breeds stress. Peace breeds peace. Essentially, it's Law of Attraction. |

Choice or Habit?
| |
| When life delivers a plethora of unexpected and unpleasant surprises, it can be easy and automatic to react negatively. Many of these reactions are unconscious and engrained in us as human beings. Throughout our lives, most of us are taught and conditioned to react to disappointments with sadness, unkindness from others with anger or defensiveness, heavy traffic with stress and frustration, illness and death with fear, and our mistakes with judgment. If I listed twenty activities, most would agree on the "common way" to react to each situation.
But, who says this is how we "should" be reacting? Is there an alternative choice? Is there a more effective way? Or are we truly helpless victims to life's circumstances? |

Lower Stress At Work Is Just Good Business Manners
| |
| Few things within a business are guaranteed to raise tensions, shorten fuses and lower productivity as are simple bad manners and yet, when times get tough and stress rises, good manners are often an early victim.
When the erosion of good manners then leaks from team relations into customer relations (as it inevitably must) that, in turn, costs sales - not just immediate sales, but all of the remaining sales you would have made to that client had you retained them for years to come, and the sales of all the other people whom they were miffed enough to discourage from dealing with you in future!

Back from Hell
| |
| Burnout needs to be spoken about widely and respected for the debilitating disease that it can be and the more that is written about it the better. Leaders need to stop, learn and listen and be very clear as to what it is – take note as to whether they are already burnt out, close to the edge and pushing themselves beyond the point of no return. They need to be aware of the other health problems that can be associated with it and not get stuck in any of them. They also need to know how it can impact on the culture of their organization, people aspect of the business and productivity and profits. Education is paramount as to what stress is – that there is good stress and bad stress and that it needs to be respected otherwise a price may be paid that is not warranted or wanted. |

Workplace Conflict and Being True to Yourself

| Stress, tension, anxiety, anger, upset, depression, frustration, annoyance, and wasted time. They all go with the package called being human. They all show up at home, at work, and even at the supermarket.
One of the biggest questions I get when folks ask about their own personal situations at work is how to cut the time wasted in attempting to resolve conflicts that don't want to just go away. all their vacation time annually. With health insurance costs so high
perhaps this alone might inspire companies to pay more than lip service
to allowing time to relax, regenerate and reflect. |

New School Year: Lessons from a Middle Schooler
| |
| Today is the first day of school in Michigan and I am the new mom to a Middle Schooler!. Time has flown so quickly. It seems like just yesterday that I was holding him in the rocking chair in his room. I remember looking at his little legs and thinking to myself, “some day his legs will hang over mine when he sits on my lap. I can’t even imagine it.” And now here we are, it’s been years since he’s spent any time on my lap. His legs would almost hit the ground, all in the blink of an eye. Where has the time gone?
I watch with amazement as he heads off to Middle School with nothing more than anticipation. Hallways to maneuver, new school, way more kids, lockers and classes to find. His elementary school is nothing more than a fond memory and he is ready to move on. I am so proud of him today!

Here are some of the main causes of procrastination along with some steps you can take to eliminate the behavior – if you choose!

Stress and Your Health
| |
| Some effects believed to be linked to stress have not been borne out by research. Ulcers, in particular, were thought to be caused by stress. Stress and your Mate

| Whether you have a spouse, a domestic partner or just someone who is the current live-in love of your life, living with someone close can cause stress. Note, the 'can' not 'must'. Interacting with someone with whom you have that kind of relationship introduces a variety of potential problems, but those don't have to lead to for either party.
Stress results when someone feels caught in a perceived, unresolvable conflict between "I must" and "I can't". They feel there is something they have to do, but are blocked from or don't have the resources to do.

I'd seen my boss, Mr. Burke, stand there countless times before, studying the inventory, looking for just the right item for the customer, but I'd never seen him like this; his face and neck a livid red, his neck muscles strained, beads of sweat on a brow that only moments before had been dry.
I heard Allison, his assistant whisper, "Go get Mrs. Burke." Someone scampered away, relieved to escape the tense scene. I stood there frozen, uncertain what was happening, even more uncertain what to do. After all, I was just part-time help, spending a few summer months between college semesters learning about the real world of business.

You Have the Right to...Live Guilt Free!
There's a lot of pressure to have it all, and I believe you can't! What we do have today is more choices than our mothers or grandmothers could ever have dreamed of. And that adds to our pressure and our stress and our guilt.
We feel guilty going to work and leaving the children. We feel guilty staying at home and not bringing in an income to help lighten the load of our husbands. We feel guilty not being able to volunteer like we think we should. So what's a woman to do? Easy...
Look at life as a Buffet Table. You've got just one plate (your life) and many choices on this table. You're allowed to choose anything as long as you understand that there will be a cashier at the end and a price tag attached.
If you decide to go to work, is there a price tag attached to that choice? |

Retirement Is Not The Goal, Entrepreneurism Is
| |
| Most working men and women over the age of 50 start thinking about retirement, and many start planning for it. They do their due diligence on investment strategies, position themselves well in their companies, review their estate planning, and so on. While each individual step in retirement planning in amongst itself is sound advice, the main question to ask during this transitional phase in their lives is, "What is the goal?" Retirement should not be the goal. Retirement limits your potential to positively impact the lives of others. Owning a simple yet fully principled internet business where you are the centerpiece of leadership is the key to getting all the benefits of retirement, with the added advantages of residual income and a source of true happiness for you and your family. |

Why Entrepreneurs Need To Exercise Differently Than Other People
| |
| Most entrepreneurs are aware of the importance to stay in shape, but the challenge is that entrepreneurs typically adopt the same approach to exercise as they do to business. To support your fast paced and intense working life the temptation is to do a high intensity workout at full pace. This is a mistake. Adding high intensity, fast-paced exercise to a high intensity, fast-paced life only serves to amplify the imbalance in your life leading to an increased risk of illness, injury or burnout. I call this being an "Exhaustedpreneur". Exhaustedpreneurs are entrepreneurs whose bodies can't physically keep up with the demands of their work and life.
The solution is about exercising in balance. I call it Exercising Right For Your Engine Type... |

screamed some more choice words, slammed his door, gave me some hand
signals and drove off. I would not want to be in his way today. |

Too often, leaders understand the factors that promote effective leadership yet still fail to execute at critical opportunities. 5 Timestealers You Must Avoid
| |
| Gary has a business, employing 7 staff. When he contacted me he was at a point where the stress from his business was so bad, that he would constantly wake up 3 or 4 times a night worried about everything ...his cash flow, staff, lack of clients and the affect all this was having on his personal well-being and family life.
He didn't use a diary, had no way of planning and kept everything 'in his head'.Often his staff were idle because he hadn't spent time training them. That ensured the work didn't get done therefore causing Gary to lose clients.

The Secret to Feeling in Control During Times of Change
| |
| For most of us, the thought of having control over life inconveniences seems like a great idea; wouldn’t it be great to control traffic, the weather, our family or neighbors? However, rather than actual control over our environment, what we really want is simply a sense of control, to feel like we’re on top of things. This can be achieved by choosing to accept challenges for what they are, setting a clear intention of what we need to do and finding the balance between our level of ability and the challenge presented. By learning to consciously reframe even the most chaotic situation, you’ll find that feeling “in control” is less about making life go according to plan, and more about your ability to focus on what you can control. |

When, Why and How You Need to Hire a Freelance Project Manager
| |
| Most successful outsourcing buyers post their first freelance project to fill a specific skill need or budget gap on a particular project, finding a skilled worker or two and seeing the project completed successfully. Then, as success breeds success, their needs continue to expand and more freelance professionals are eventually hired. Suddenly, these outsourcing buyers find themselves managing a growing remote workteam, which is usually more demanding than anticipated and ultimately a resource stress.
If you are feeling overwhelmed by the requirements of keeping your remote workteam in motion on an outsourcing project, perhaps you need to consider hiring a freelance project manager. |

Seven Key Words for Success
| |
| These seven words, when used properly, hold the key to finding answers and solutions to every problem, obstacle, or barrier you will encounter. When you are faced with a problem, look at this list to determine what you need to do or be to solve it.
1. Change
To make things different in your life, you have to make one or more changes. Change happens all the time, and there is nothing we can do about it. Few things in life are static or permanent, and the "status quo" is never permanent. There are only two things in life that never change: truth, and the fact that everything else changes. Regardless of your background, you can become more. |

Entrepreneurs - How Can You Start A Business During A Recession?

| Starting a business during a recession seems such a silly thing to do. You may have no other choice if you are sitting at home with your redundancy cheque. Fairy Tales

| One of my clients told me the following story: "we were sitting in a meeting and it was, to say the least, very tense. The big boss was angry with her leadership team. She wanted the finished proposal for a major, big, gargantuan business deal finished before the sun set that day, right after the meeting.
Everyone took a breath and looked down at the table. They all knew it was impossible. The stats had not been delivered yet and there was no way it could be done and done right by early evening, even by late that night. |

Stress and the Sales Cycle
| |
| On one hand we are being told that the economy is improving, turning around, doing better. On the other hand we hear our colleagues say that sales are down, services are still being cut back. Jobs are being cut and the jobless rate continues to inch higher. There is the flavor and smell of fear in almost every workplace.
If sales are down then what is up? Stress and office conflict are on the increase and the natural tendency to blame and judge is on the rise. Recently a very angry client called me with the following question. Actually, it was more than a question; it was a ten minute rant and rave about injustice and unfairness. It went something like this "He stole my idea. He used my exact words and took all the credit. |

Is Paranoia an Acquired Taste?
| |
| In "Don't Bring It to Work" the underlying idea is that when stress hits the hot button we all revert to behavior patterns we learned as kids in our original organization, the family for protection and survival. That is what seems to be showing up around our country in this time of sadness and confusion.
The knee-jerk reactions are so similar to ones that we can all remember when disagreements broke out in elementary and middle school playgrounds. We were given detentions, told to behave, but rarely sat down to really look at what started the upset in the first place.

Say Goodbye to Procrastination……Today

So, what can you do? First thought is to fire the slug! Slow is okay, tardy is often acceptable. However, promises that are made and never kept, well, that is another story. |

The Super Achiever Stuck
| |
| "Strive for excellence" was the mantra in the alternative school my children attended. It was a high priced, beautifully appointed campus made up of the best and the brightest. Sounds good, huh?
Not so fast. Now, years later I see the damage that stress and over achievement cost. You see, all the kids who went there drove themselves crazy being excellent. The translation of the word really meant, did you get all A's and how many fancy Ivy League schools accepted you into the rarified air of the privileged few. |

Work Life Harmony, Rather Than Work Life Balance
| |
| Work life balance suggests people are living two lives, one at work and one away from work. But people don't 'work' for five days or more and 'live' for two days or less. Work is just one of many roles that people perform in their week. No matter where they are or what they are doing, day or night, people are carrying personal baggage, problems, responsibilities, personal goals and work goals. Separation of work and personal life roles has become a blur and, to many of us, almost a seamless link.
Family friendly policies are now only one aspect of the work life balance issue. Work life balance has become a key factor in attracting and retaining good staff, male and female in a buyers market generated by a shortage of quality skilled staff. |

Stress-Free Selling® - Eliminate Stress in Sales
| |
| A sale is stressful when we approach Prospects with the intention of making a sale and the fear of not making a sale. To compound matters, Prospects are afraid we are going to manipulate them. They are afraid we are going to sell them something. . . something that's not in their best interest. Prospects accept appointments reluctantly (which is why we have difficulty getting them on the phone in the first place) and are pre-armed with a litany of excuses (aka objections) to get rid of you.
It is this dichotomy of goals (you want to make a sale and Prospects want to protect themselves) that creates stress. Imagine if you both want to meet. Imagine if neither feels the other is going to try to force anything on him. Imagine you both feel the only acceptable outcome is the satisfaction of your Prospect's goals. |
