It Takes Teamwork to Make a Company Dream Work
| |
| Almost everyone works in a team, but very few ever seem to achieve happiness and success from it. This always amazes me. How not to make a prospecting call
| |
| A woman from Australia recently called me on a cold call. She started by calling me ‘Sharon.' For those of you who know me, I refer to myself as Sharon Drew. Folks who call me ‘Sharon' are either making a cold call, or haven't read my books or blogs. I have a long history with this problem, so playfully said, "Ah. You don't know me well. I call myself Sharon Drew and I use both names." [Note: for those of you who study Buying Facilitation® I suggest you begin calls with strangers by giving your own name, saying it's a 'sales call' and then asking who you are speaking with, even though you may have a name in front of you.] |

Productivity Improvement via Method study
| |
| There are a number of approaches to improving productivity: the best-known currently is probably ‘Lean’ but such approaches go back many years to the days of the early ‘productivity pioneers’.
Many people (and especially people of ‘a certain age’) will immediately think of ‘time and motion’ when asked to describe a productivity methodology. This refers to the early days of ‘work study’ when the aim (as it often still is today) is to reduce the time taken by, and the motion involved in, work.
The ‘improvement’ methodology of work study that derived from time & motion study was method study … and an understanding of method study gives a real insight into how all productivity improvement methodologies work.

Women in business
| |
| I was speaking to someone from overseas the other day and he said he never thought he would see the day when Australia elected a female Prime Minister. His perception of Australia was that our culture was very ‘blokey’. So you would think that the appointment of Prime Minister Julia Gillard was the result of great change, an indication of how successful women have become in the workforce. Think again. In the recently published report by the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency it made clear that the number of female key executive managers and board directors in the ASX 200 has hardly changed over the past eight years. In comparison with New Zealand, the UK, Canada, the US and South Africa, Australia has the lowest percentage of women in the most senior positions.
So what exactly is going on?
