80/20 – You Keep Hearing It – But What Are You Doing About It?
Everybody loves to talk about the 80/20 rules of selling, but did you know that 80/20 rules apply to most things you do and are in life.

Vision is more than a destination
Vision in real leadership doesn't just means seeing where you want to go, but also seeing how you are going to make it happen. Seeing the process, the entire path, the things that you need to do to make it happen. The things you need to do to make that vision a reality. What you need to do to make it happen. What you need to do and the when, where and how.

50/50 Never Works in Relationships
The old cliche in order to make it work we have to have a 50/50 deal. You have to do your part and I have to do mine. We have to split things evenly. This business partnership will only work if it is 50/50. This marriage will only work if it is 50/50. Otherwise it is never going to work. Any of that sound familiar to you? We have heard that one before. Of course we have. Yet things don't work when we give 50 and the other person gives 50. Trust me. We tried it in business. We tired it in marriage. And what we have found to many times is that things still don't work. Why?

Be Your Own Hero!
There are many kinds of heroes in life – war heroes, super heroes, emergency services professionals. Have you ever considered yourself in this category?

Focus on the results - not the problem
Where is your focus? Is it on the problem or the blessing? On what you can do, or what the news says is going on? On the bad economy or on how you can create great success because of the economic situation?

Stretch beyond what you think you can
Are you going to stretch or are you going to give up? Are you going to keep going because you have the passion, desire and knowledge that you will make it work?  You will do what you need too in order to make it happen. Are you going to listen to those who gave up, or are you going to listen to those who went before you and made it? Those who gave it all they had to and more.

Real Leadership Requires Absolutes
You can't lead by being afraid of what people will think of the decision. You have to learn early that leadership requires some people not liking the decisions you make. You can't lead from a seesaw - you have to be able to stand firm. Nothing worse than a leader who keeps changing his/her mind and never seems to stand for anything. Leadership requires earned respect.

Stress, stress and even more stress!
I was stopped at a Wawa the other day, just grabbing some coffee and as I started to back my car out, a fellow walk right on the side of my car and I almost hit him. The anger on his face was unbelievable as he smacked my car and yelled a few choice words and stomped off. Now, I know the normal reaction, get out of my car and start screaming. But instead, I backed my car out, drove over to his car and was actually going to say that I was sorry and wish him a better day. I rolled down my window to talk to him, he screamed some more choice words, slammed his door, gave me some hand signals and drove off. I would not want to be in his way today.

Consistency results in success
Do you understand the success and results you can achieve by being consistent? Understand that the sales rep who consistently makes one hour of cold calls on the phone, day in and day out will get some business. It is a fact of life. Even through most people give up, or worst, they think they are making cold calls by doing them when they feel like it. The rep who does it consistently will have success. Even if the rep has a terrible list, is not that good on the phone, does not know that much about the product/service. The fact of being consistent, will create success.

Mentors Make Magic in Your Life
How about you? Do you have a mentor? Do you have someone you talk to on a regular basis about your career, life, job and anything else that is important in your life? I don’t mean a friend, or a buddy, I mean a mentor. Someone who will listen with an open mind and give you the straight advice you need. Webster defines mentor as: “A wise and trusted counselor or teacher”. Do you have one?

Strengthen Your Strengthens and Watch What Happens to Your Life
If you are good at something, then you need to spend your time getting better and better at it. If you are not good at something, you need to find another way to get it done. No, this is not running away from what is important. What it is, is: 1) Using the gifts you have been given. 2) Getting better and better at what you do well. 3) Moving your life, business, career, family to outstanding.

Taking Time to Think
When was the last time you did that in an atmosphere where you really could think and listen and just see what comes to you? Be honest. When was the last time your mind could be free to open up and see what comes in?

We all like to say, “wow, I would like to be where you are”. But are you willing to do what I did to get there? Success means doing something. Action creates success. Here are some simple tips

Are you Reactive or Pro-active
Are you making things happen or are you watching things happen? Are you taking control of your life or are you watching it go right by you? These are the questions that we have to ask ourselves, this day and everyday. I hope you all know what a pinball machine is. I know it is old school but I still see them around in most arcades. In a pinball machine you have a little silver ball that gets shot up into the machine. It then gets bounced from one bumper to the next, it gets pushed. Then it gets flipped from one side to the other, it goes crazy. Just reacting to all that is happening to it. And then finally just falling down into the hole, only to start the process all over again. How about you? Do you feel like that pinball? Are you reactive or proactive?

Why Do I Need A Coach?
Have you addressed these questions. 1. Is fear of failure holding you back from real success in all you do? 2. Are you holding back making decisions because you might be wrong? 3. Are you afraid of taking the risk because you might look bad? Or it might cost you a great deal.

Are You Ready for Next Year?
Are you putting together a plan that you will execute successfully next year? Do you have a budget put together and a process to manage budget to actual and take corrective action? Are you doing some new things – some different things, some things outside the box? Have you determined what is working and have you put together a plan to do more of what is working? Some things you do work very well – you need to do more and spend more money on them. Some things you do are not working, no matter how much you like them. Dump them.

Success Means Doing What You Do Best
Do what you do best. How many of us try and do everything instead of doing what we do best? A great line I picked up from the biography of Steve Jobs. If it wasn't for Steve, Woz's great innovation would just be in a hobby shop some place. I want you to really think about that. Woz was the expert engineer, but Steve was the expert marketer. Each did what they did best. The result of course is history – Apple. The point we need to take with us today is simply this – we need to let our people do what they are really good at and find someone else to do what they are not very good at. By doing this we create tremendous unbelievable success.

For The Times They Are A Changin
What a great song by Bob Dylan. A real Classic. But it doesn’t matter if you are a Dylan fan or not, the times they are definitely changing. And how you respond to those changes makes a huge difference in where you go. How are you responding to the changing times? That is really what I want to look at today. How to help you begin to understand what you need to do to move forward and create success in all you do. So the question we tackle – how are you responding to change. How are you handling that fact that the economy is now different? How are you handling that it is not business as usual?

Only A Level Players Need Apply
“A” level players want to work with other “A” level players. It makes them better, stronger and even more productive. So, the question is how much time and energy and effort do we spend trying to make “B” level players into “A” level players? How much success have we had? How about instead today we make a commitment to go out and start finding and bringing in“A” level players.

How Well Do You Follow Your Plan?
You start your day at 7AM, energized, motivated, excited and by 830 you are crazy, off course and in total reactive mode and you stay there the rest of the day? Can you relate. I love to use the pinball story. Do you feel like the little silver ball in the pinball machine, getting shot up into the game, bouncing from one bumper to the next, rolling down the slot, getting flipped way up and finally just running into the hole. Or, do you control the process, your day, your life, your business. Doing what you said you would when you said you would the way you said you would?

If You Persist, You will Prevail
How long will you stick with it? How long will you put up with all the work and struggle and pain? How long will you persist? Great question that so many successful business owners have to deal with. How long do you keep going? If you are still going, then you have persistence and you will prevail. So many never make it in business for this simple fact. You see it is so much easier to quit. It is so much easier to just stop and get a job. It is so much easier to find something else to do. But the real entrepreneur, he or she is still going for they know success will come. They know that if you persist, you will prevail.
