Two Organizational States
In this article I contrast two extreme organizational states: one with very low trust, and one with very high trust. The contrast is stark. Most organizations operate somewhere between these two extremes.

How to Achieve Success: Where Ever You Are – Be There!

Sue Grafton is a Success Because She Loves What She Does
Successful people have a clearly defined purpose for their life. Sue Grafton's purpose is writing mystery stories that entertain large numbers of people. My purpose is helping others succeed. My friend's purpose was creating better surgical equipment. What is your purpose? It should be something you love. If you don't love it, you'll get burned out and see your work as a grind. If you love what you do, you see your work as a gift and something to which you look forward every day. As we approach the end of 2009, spend some time thinking about what you truly love doing. Then, and more important, think about how you can make doing what you love your life's work.

American Rejection - Successful entrepreneurs must ignore the experts!
Did you know that American Idol was turned down by every major network! That’s right every major network told Simon Cowell to get lost! Luckily Rupert Murdock’s daughter heard about the pitch and pulled on Daddy’s heart strings and he talked Fox into picking it up.

Are you ready for a Life Coach?
The answer is YES! The real challenge is most people do not have a strong enough self image to hire a coach. They simply hide behind the ”I can’t afford it” or the ”When I get successful, I'll hire a coach.”

Can you really help your employees get promoted?
Why is it most employees don’t want to get promoted? I could never figure that out. Sure they want and even need more money but they always have an excuse on why they are not able to grow. You may even over extend at times and give them free seminar tickets or golden opportunities, only to hear them come up with great excuses why they can’t make it. I recently asked leadership legend John Maxwell what things he was thinking on currently and he said something amazing.

Communication,Sex and Money

The key here is to embrace the struggle. Why? Because it’s going to come, period. It’s a 100% guarantee that you will struggle at times in your life. It‘s like death, people are so afraid of death yet it’s the one thing you know with total certainty that it will happen. Let’s get back to embracing the struggle. As the #1 Online Life Coach I have some ultra successful high end clients and one of the most popular questions is: “Evan, why is it so hard? “ My answer is why is it so hard for them to understand that the struggle is what brings out the greatness. The struggle in the gym is what makes the champion athlete, the struggle in the cocoon is what properly develops the butterfly’s wings, the struggle in refining Gold and Diamonds is what makes these stones so precious.

Unleash the entrepreneur within!
It's not for everyone! As the #1 Online Life Coach this has been a huge breakthrough for many people when they realize that they simply are not cut out to be an entrepreneur, and it's ok. J. Paul Getty in his book How to be Rich talked about the three types of men/employees. The first is just a job mentality type, this person is also known as a Mr. Steady. They feel more comfortable being in a system that someone else creates, they just want to do their job and leave at 5pm. Most of these types take pride in their job and if they need to work some overtime they will, however it will be the first thing they complain about. Regardless they will do their job and show up every day and expect to get paid every two weeks regardless of what is going on in the company.

What is Online Life Coaching?
In the same vein of online higher education we have online Life Coaching. Because of technology top Life Coaches can now reach large numbers of people without giving up their time. This allows for greatly reduced prices which now gives the struggling executive who wants to get promoted access to the same caliber of coaching his CEO is getting.

When to say no to a deal. If you want grow say no!
Wait, before you say, "I did this really small job and it lead to a bigger one, so I never turn down a deal." If you want to think that way, it's OK, but if you want to get to the next level, you need to think differently. I have a very successful client in Hollywood that I work with, he hired me to help him make the jump to the elite level of 8 figure deals. I told him the same thing I'm telling you, say, "No to 80%." He was so challenged by this until I explained to him that the deals he was getting now were the ones turned down by the elite level 8 figure guys. If you want 8 figure deals you have think like an 8 figure guy and NOT take 6 figure deals.

Dear Tiger, as the #1 Online Life Coach I’m here to remind you that, you do not have ” rights” you only have “responsibilities.” You chose to enter the public realm of Pro sports and you chose to accept the benefits of being a household name. Because of this you surrendered your rights of personal privacy. Do I agree with you that you should have some privacy? Yes! But that doesn’t matter, the world does not work like that anymore. You knew the job was dangerous when you took it. Your squeaky clean image is what repelled the tabloids for the last 10 years. They don’t want to report on a functional family and the moment you chose to be dysfunctional, you sent them a personal invitation to turn your life upside down.

Successful People Face Their Fears and Act
Fear is the enemy of self confidence. Self confident people face their fears and act. Procrastination is the manifestation of fear. When you find yourself procrastinating, figure out what scares you about the situation. Is it fear of failure? Is it fear of success? Is it fear of rejection? Is it fear of being embarrassed? Is it fear of the unknown? Once you've figured out why you are afraid, do three things; admit your fear to yourself, embrace your fear, and take action. Action is the antidote to fear. In most cases, you'll choose wisely and your fears won't be realized. In the cases when you choose poorly, you'll find that failure isn't as catastrophic as you imagined. Successful people learn from their failures.

Articulate Your Success Through A Compelling Vision
Evolution is part of nature. Nothing stays the same, yet rather than take advantage of the potential within, the majority of people fight to keep situations/relationships the same regardless of dissatisfaction. More than likely they are subconsciously using familiar habits and strategies to transform expecting new results. It’s ludicrous to expect different results using the same patterns! These actions are more of survival rather than proactive self-leadership in generating opportunities.

Who Really Achieves Success in Sales?
Whether you have been in sales a short time or for years, achieve a level of success that is rooted in integrity...The kind of success that cannot be matched.

Success Comes From Living Your Purpose
To develop your personal clarity or purpose you need to do three things. First, define what success means to you. Second, create a vivid mental image of you as a success. Third, clarify your personal values. Ask yourself a simple question almost every day. "Did the things I did today support my life’s purpose?" If you answer, "yes," consider it a successful day. If you answer "no," think about what you can do the next day to get back to living your purpose. Have a clear and vivid mental image of what success means to you. Live your life’s purpose every day. If you haven’t clarified your purpose in life, this is a good time to start. Once you get clear on your purpose, live it every day in all your actions.

Fear, Courage and Success
Fear can -- and will -- paralyze you. It can keep you from reaching the career and life success you want and deserve. If you develop the habit of courage, you can beat fear. Repetition is the best way to develop the habit of being courageous. The more you are willing to face your fears -- small and large -- and act, the quicker courage will become one of the guiding habits in your life.

Action, Action and More Action Builds Self Confidence and Creates Success
Successful people are self confident. Self confident people take action. They don't let their fears, or their perfectionism trap them into procrastinating. If you want to succeed you need to be self confident. If you want to become self confident you need to face your fears -- and any other impediment to your success -- and act.

Audience Analysis and Presentation Success
Successful people are dynamic communicators. Dynamic communicators are great presenters. If you want to become a great presenter, you need to spend time analyzing the audience for your talks. If you do this, you'll be able to create and deliver solid presentations that will meet the needs of your audiences, and in the process, gain a reputation as a great speaker and dynamic communicator.

High Goals, Outstanding Performance and Success
Successful people are outstanding performers. Outstanding performers are goal oriented. They set high goals, and do whatever it takes to achieve them. Then they set higher goals and do what they must to achieve them. They do this day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. If you want to become an outstanding performer, you need to constantly challenge yourself by setting high goals. Aim high, and you'll be surprised at what you can accomplish.

Addiction to Praise Hampers Conversation Success
Successful people are dynamic communicators. Dynamic communicators are excellent conversationalists. The essence of good conversation is a willingness to listen to, and learn from, others. People who are addicted to praise, those whose "narcissistic supply" is in short supply, are seldom good conversationalists. In seeking the approval of others, they speak only of themselves and their lives. They seldom take the time to engage other people in conversation and listen to what they have to say. If you want to become a good conversation, get interested in other people. Learn about them and their lives. They'll reciprocate and give you the chance to talk about you and your life.

Surround Yourself with Positive People for Success
Self-confidence is an important key to personal and professional success. The Tour De France, Relationships and Success

Success Lessons from Serena’s Meltdown
As you go through life you will encounter many problems and setbacks. You need to react positively to the negative stuff and move forward toward your goals. Serena Williams lost in the semi finals to Kim Clijsters, who went on to win the championship. Serena not only lost, she lost in a bizarre manner that could have been avoided had she chosen to react positively to an unfair setback she encountered during the match. To use a term we seem to hear a lot these days, there is a “teachable moment” here. Successful people commit to taking personal responsibility for their lives and careers. Choosing to react positively to people and events is a good way to take responsibility for yourself.

Success and Your Personal Mission and Vision
Successful people define a clarity of purpose and direction for their lives and careers. Your clarity of purpose and direction should include both a personal mission (your purpose) and a personal vision (your direction). Your mission is your reason for living, why you are on this earth. Think before you hit that send button.

Mentors are positive people because they are willing to give of themselves to help others succeed. When you’re looking for a mentor, look for someone who is highly skilled, is a lifelong learner, is respected by his or her colleagues, has a positive outlook on life and is willing to provide you with direct, constructive feedback. When you find the right mentor you won’t have to go it alone on the road to career and life success.

Self Confidence
There are a few common sense points associated with self confidence. Believe in yourself. Your career success will be built on your self confidence. First, be optimistic. As the Optimist Creed says, "Be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble." Second, take action. Face your fears and deal with them. Live your life in the career success arena, so you will know the "triumph of achievement." Third, find the positive people around you. Hold on to them. Identify the negative people around you. Jettison them. Find a career success mentor and learn everything you can from him or her.

Career Success and Problem Solving
Outstanding performance is very important to career and life success. It's at the heart of the five success elements. No one can be successful without being a highly competent, outstanding performer. The incompetents and poor performers get identified and asked to leave or are placed in marginal positions pretty quickly. You have to identify the problems and obstacles to becoming an outstanding performer that you face before you can take action and deal with them. Don't call your problems "opportunities" or your obstacles "challenges". Call them what they are, and then get on with fixing your problems and overcoming your obstacles.

Commit to Developing Success Competencies
We all need to commit to taking personal responsibility for not only our health, but for our career and life success. Successful people do the thing they need to do to ensure that they succeed. One way that you can demonstrate your commitment to your success is by becoming competent in four key skills: creating positive personal impact, performing in an outstanding manner, becoming a dynamic communicator and developing your interpersonal competence. If you commit to becoming competent in these four areas, you’ll be on your way to a lifetime of success.

Hard Work, Outstanding Performance and Success
Outstanding performance is an important key to career and life success. As Malcolm Gladwell points out, outstanding performers are hard workers. They know what they want and do whatever it takes to get it. They enthusiastically act on their dreams. This action helps them reach their goals. There is no way around hard work. You have to put in the time and effort if you want to be successful. Ask any "overnight success." Everyone that I've ever met tells me that they spent years and years getting to the place where they became an "overnight success." Set your goals. Work hard. Work smart. And you'll succeed.

Dynamic Communication
Effective communication is vital to personal success and it is an up close and personal endeavor. All of the great communicators I know are great conversationalists. I have one great piece of common sense advice that will help you achieve personal success through effective communication: listen more than you speak. People like to talk about themselves and the best way to get to know them is to ask questions. When you meet people for the first time, ask "get to know you" questions like: "What do you do?" "Where do you live?" "Are you married?" "Do you have children?" Listen to the answers and file them away for future use. Understanding and using the keys to dynamic communication in this article can help catapult you towards achieving personal success. And they will make you a whole lot nicer to be around, too.

How to Begin a Conversation
Successful people are dynamic communicators. Dynamic communicators have mastered three basic communication skills: conversation, writing and presenting. Inviting people to participate in a conversation and getting their agreement before jumping in is an important, but often overlooked conversation skill. People who are invited to join a conversation, and choose to do so, are more likely to be better participants. If you want to become an excellent conversationalist, take a few minutes to explain why you want to have a conversation. Ask the other person if he or she has the time and is willing to participate in a conversation on that topic. Your conversations will be better and more productive if you follow this simple common sense advice.

Create a Vivid Mental Image of Your Success
Successful people define what success means to them. Then they develop a compelling and clear mental image of their success. They use this mental image to help keep their dreams alive and to keep moving forward to what they want in their lives and careers. Creating a vivid mental image of your success is not day dreaming. It's real work -- it's the work of designing your future, so you can take the steps necessary to create it.

Create Your Success by Acting With Enthusiasm
Successful people commit to taking personal responsibility for their career and life success. They decide what they really want out of their life and career. They create a vivid mental image of themselves having what they want. And then they act -- enthusiastically. They seize the day and do whatever it takes to get what they vividly imagine and ardently desire. Commit to taking responsibility for your success. Seize the day -- and act.

Interpersonal Competence
Interpersonal competence is the fifth key of career and life success. No matter how self confident and how good at creating positive personal impact or how great a performer and dynamic a communicator you are, you will not achieve life success without interpersonal competence. By taking the time to understand yourself and others, build strong relationships and resolve conflict positively you are well on your way to achieving life success. The greatest life success is found by those who truly seek these things.

Commit to Your Success
Successful people commit to taking personal responsibility for their own success. They realize that personal and professional success are the result of focus and hard work. If you want to succeed, you need to look for the opportunity in failure. Successful people don't give up. They keep on working towards their goals with a single minded focus.

How to Create Positive Personal Impact
This article is about positive personal impact. My work as an executive coaching consultant has led me to conclude that people with positive personal impact have three things in common: 1. People with powerful personal impact know and practice the basic rules of etiquette.

Keep Your Fire Stoked
In so many ways this fire can be compared to a marketing team of professionals. It is nice to sit and watch the fire, watch the flames flicker but soon if you only watch and don’t feed your fire it dies down. You start to feel the chill back in the air. You must get up and put on another log on the fire.

Tiger Woods, Personal Branding and Success
Creating positive personal impact is one of the competencies all successful people possess. You create positive personal impact by developing and nurturing your unique personal brand, being impeccable in your presentation of self, and knowing and following the basic rules of etiquette. Your personal brand should be uniquely you, but it should be built on integrity. Integrity is doing the right thing -- even when no one is looking. As Tiger Woods's case demonstrates, a lack of integrity can lead to serious consequences for a carefully crafted brand. Now, everyone is looking and most people aren't liking what they're seeing. So take a lesson from Tiger -- one he's learning the hard way, build your personal brand on integrity.

Why You Must Master Self-Discpline
How many times have you felt the urge to take a small break and watch TV while you are in the middle of writing an article? Or perhaps you’re in the middle of making your prospect calls, and suddenly you decide you want to chat with your friend about weekend plans without completing your other calls? I know it’s important to take breaks once in a while, and you should to recharge your batteries, but have you ever experienced taking a break, and suddenly that break turns into a few hours and you suddenly don’t want to do that task anymore? Most of us have been guilty at one point or another, but it’s important to complete income-producing tasks to put you closer to your goals. Out of all the skills, mastering self-discipline and focus is key to success.

Be carefull, Success may not be all that you expect
We all strive to be successful. But what is success? How is it rated or determined? How has your success been achieved? Has it been at any cost, to others or to yourself? The danger, today, is that success, almost exclusively, has now come to mean achievement in a particular field of endeavour. Success, for you, may be a collection of exquisite material items and great financial wealth; or to be in a position of power and influence. The trouble is that anything that is external to you can be lost. Hence the requirement for insurance, security guards, fencing, keys and locks, and for those with power and influence – minders to watch their backs! Lasting success is internal. It is contentment and being happy with yourself.

Dont attack Life It is a process
Attacking Life as in a campaign is not a good idea. Accept that Life is a process from birth to death (and paying taxes!!). Learn to live with the ups and the downs. Anything else will be stressful and cause problems. This will not bring life harmony.

How to Plant the Seeds and Reap the Harvest of Success in Network Marketing
If you’re new to network marketing and prefer to build a business offline, start planting a lot of seeds. Seeds take time to grow, and you reap what you sow. The more seeds you plant, the bigger your harvest. So what exactly are the seeds? The seeds are the prospecting tools provided by your company, and the soil is your prospects. Hand out your prospecting tools, like brochures or videos, to as many people as possible. Now that you planted these seeds, let the prospecting tools do most of the work for you. Before you hand out any of these tools, ask them some pre-qualifying questions. You can simply ask, “If I could show you a way to make extra income part time that won’t interfere with your current job, would you at least take a look at it?” If your prospect says yes to this question, hand them the prospecting tools.

Successful Entrepreneurs and The Importance Of Building A Team
Many entrepreneurs see themselves as soloists, single individuals boldly taking risks by themselves. What many have learned the hard way is that success requires a team of people who can add their unique talent and skill to the mix. Every entrepreneur needs to understand their own skills and talents, and also know what skills and talents are needed in other team members.

If you are trying to do something better in your life, having a better lifestyle or for example travel, in other words you have big dreams (and you should have big dreams) probably you met with the opinions and advices of you friends, family members and other people. And I bet that they told you that you are crazy, that you are only a dreamer and that you should come back to the earth or something like that. Instead, you need to learn about your prospects wants and needs by asking the right questions.

How to Make the Mastermind Group Unlock the Door to Success
I came across the concept of the mastermind group after reading Napoleon Hill’s book Think and Grow Rich. According to Hill, the mastermind group is formed when two or more minds work actively together in perfect harmony toward a common definite object. Hill noted that every successful person in history had a mastermind group that helped him achieve greatness. No one mind is ever complete in itself, so you need to have a mastermind group to help you achieve those objectives.

6 Proven Ways to Conquer Your Fear of Public Speaking
Cicero, renown world speaker and philosopher said, "I turn pale at the outset of a speech, and quake in every limb and in all my soul." Read Exodus to learn about Moses' fear of public speaking. John Dryden described his fear of public speaking this way, "Whenever I speak a cold sweat trickles down all over my limbs as if I were dissolving in water." I know how it feels to have running stomach, sleepless nights and disappointed audience.

Why We Need to Create Associations of Success
To thrive in any entrepreneurial venture, we need to create associations of success. Most of us have heard the saying that we are the average of the 5 people with whom we are most closely associated. Your associations of success will help you follow through with your plan and achieve your goals. You can have the greatest vision and put together the most complete plan of achieving that goal. However, being surrounded by only negative and unsupportive people will derail your plans of making your goal and vision a reality.

What Do We Do Now?: Options for Allocating Scarce Resources When You Haven’t Planned Ahead
Although advance planning for resource allocation is the ideal scenario, many organizations found themselves caught short by the severe constraints imposed by the economic downturn. What are the alternatives when organizations are operating in crisis mode and there is no “Plan A?” Given the need to make decisions about how to curtail their operations immediately, there are two options that can help in the short-run: (1) increase inputs or (2) decrease outputs - each with several alternatives

Getting Support in Times of Change
As a coach and a psychotherapist, I’ve worked with hundreds of people each year who are going through dramatic change of some kind or another, and are in need of support from their families, friends, colleagues and others. We often discuss what healthy support is, and how it feels when we receive support that gives us the strength and confidence to persevere. What does helpful support look like?

3 Key Habits of Successful People
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to observe the daily habits of highly successful people across different industries. Although there are several habits that successful people incorporate into their lives, there are three that stand out that they practice consistently.

Success: The Choice is Yours
As an entrepreneur, you have the freedom to take your business in any direction you see fit. Being a successful entrepreneur ultimately depends on your quality of mindset.

Successful People Beat Procrastination
Successful people are self confident. Self confident people are optimistic. They face their fears and act. They surround themselves with positive people. Procrastination is the manifestation of fear. When you find yourself procrastinating on any task, identify what you fear about that task. Once you identify your fear, you'll find that you can put it behind you and get on with the job at hand. Procrastination and fear are the enemies of self confidence and success. Face them head on, and you'll not only build your confidence, you'll succeed in your life and career.

Successful People Develop Their Natural Talents
Successful people commit to taking personal responsibility for their lives and careers. As Eleanor Powell said, "What we are is God's gift to us. What we become is our gift to God." She took personal responsibility for using her God given dance talent to become the world's greatest tap dancer, and become a vaudeville, Broadway and Hollywood star. What are your God given talents? What have you done to develop them? Commit to taking personal responsibility for developing your talents. It's the best way to thank God for giving them to you, to help others, and to create the successful life and career you want and deserve.

First Comes Talent, Then Comes Success
Developing a system and judging success by how well someone follows that system, requires a perfect process that everyone can master. The reality is that the most successful people achieve their success either by not following the system or by being unaware of its existence.

Are You a Go-Giver? 4 Ways to Start Giving More to Get More in Your Business
Are You A Go-Giver? Most entrepreneurs are highly motivated and ambitious and often referred to as “go-getters.” While being dubbed a go-getter can be a compliment, try being a “go-giver” to get even more out of your business! Here are 4 Ways to Become a Go-Giver:

The Close of the Decennium
Ten years have passed, that were never short of interesting, even without modest embellishment. We will look back on these days soon. Some years will be remembered with favor others with a wince. We may find ourselves slightly awestruck at the amount of bitter peaks and the somber valleys.

The Philosopher
It was a heavy and wet morning when the trees let out quiet sighs, aching from the fresh weight of the evening’s frost. A man sat in his study watching exhausted leaves tremble and fall, spilling light with each pirouette. It was a morning not unlike any other for this man. He rose at seven, as was his custom. Washed his face with cool water and prepared for the morning’s conversation and walk with Mr. Wellington.

How to Stay in the Game for the Long Haul by Working in Success Cycles
My mentor taught me that by working in success cycles, you will stay in the game for the long haul. Just like nature works in seasons, there are also success cycles. There is a time to learn, a time to produce, a time to harvest and reap the rewards, and a time to rest. Most people live busy lives and try to squeeze in as many activities in the day as possible. We start the day working on one project, and then we get side tracked to do something else. A few hours later, we jump back into the same project we started with, but somehow lose the momentum and rhythm to do it. We try to multitask as much as possible. I’m not saying that we should stop multi-tasking, but sometimes we need to step back and perhaps focus on one thing at a time. We should learn how to work in success cycles.

DE-CLUTTER YOUR LIFE
De-Cluttering our lives can be an extremely liberating exercise. There are many types of clutter than can hinder us having the quality of life we want and deserve.

Is Fear of Failure the Vibration You Feel Most Strongly?
Have you ever awakened in the middle of the night worrying about what if the clients don't show up? Or what am I going to do if... Or maybe just felt that sense of, "What am I doing wrong? Why can't I get a break?"

Check for Consistency - It's How the Tortoise Beat the Hare
Remember Aesop’s fable of The Tortoise and The Hare? Both were in a race, and the hare dashed off to an incredible start. He became complacent, and even arrogant to the point where he took a nap, thinking that he could wake up and still beat the tortoise. When the hare woke up, he dashed as fast as he could to the finish line only to find the tortoise celebrating victory.

Start Taking Action Now - You'll Be Closer to Your Dreams
Do you know what keeps people from achieving their goals or living their dreams? It’s not taking action. You can spend all the time in the world envisioning your future, setting goals, creating affirmation statements, meditating, and networking with successful people. However, if you spend all your time preparing and don’t take any action, your goals won’t materialize. Yes, you have to start taking action to make your goals and dreams come true.

Helping Young People Find their Path: Strength Based Coaching and the U.S. Public School System
It amazes me how many children graduate from high school and even college with little idea of what they want to do with their lives and often even less of an idea about what their natural skills are. One of the reasons is that most schools fail to recognize multiple types of intelligence and teach to only two. I am convinced that much of the confusion about life and career direction that I encounter occurs when people who don’t fit the standard mold do not get recognition for their natural skills.

Today Is The Beginning Of Your New Life

Then once you can talk to people, you need to know how to handle rejection, because it will surely happen. So, the challenge is going to be to handle it and then move on. However, that isn't always so easy.

Get The Right Answers When You Ask The Right Questions
Key questions to ask yourself that have the power to elicit the answers that are vital for you to manifest your dreams.

Adding Structure To Your Home Business is Imperative
Structures in life are necessary. Without them the human, unless naturally the high structures type spoke of in a previous article, will wander aimlessly from task to task. This is easy to do when promoting online because one site will lead to another. Each offering to nickle and dime the business owner with small costs to promote their URL. Each one seems small but when added up over the month, can be a large chunk if not exceed the advertising budget set aside.

Don't Let Addictions Impact Your Success!
While all this publicity is going on for the H1N1 Virus, people are dying from a disease far more prevalent in our country. The Winner's Edge - It Separates the Winner from the Loser
So what separates the winners from the losers? It’s having the winner’s edge. It’s the little difference that makes all the difference in the world and separates people from the rest of the pact. The winners take the potential they were born with and live up to that potential. The winners make things happen, while losers simply let things happen. The winner’s edge lies in your attitude. The sharpness of that edge will all depend on whether your attitude is positive or negative.

Why Developing Mental Toughness Will Bring Great Results
You will achieve great results through developing mental toughness. So what is mental toughness? It is the desire of taking control of your emotions in performance situations. Some people claim that they work well under pressure. My mentors often argue that the statement is a myth, and pressure can actually hurt you. With added pressure, the chances are high that you will start having negative self-talk, and then lose belief in your ability to complete a task or project.

Objective Reality
If you want to create results that are truly important to you, it is critical to separate your identity (who you are) from the results you want. Feeling good or bad about yourself has little bearing on the quantity or quality of your results. If you doubt this, consider famous people with extreme self-doubts or poor self-concepts who produced spectacular results. The results of standardized tests indicate that students who "felt good about themselves" often performed lower than the scores they predicted they would achieve.

How Do You Know If YOU Respond Effectively To Adversity?
You've heard the saying, "Change your thinking - change your results". It's true, but do you know what thinking needs to change and from what to what? It's not just about heaving positive thoughts on top of a dismal situation. Nor is it about denial. A bad decision followed by hopeful thinking doesn't change the bad decision into a good one. Understanding how the High Performer is able to achieve a desired outcome is the first step we must take to improve our own productivity.

How Do You Know If YOU Are A High Performer?
In order to answer this question and know if we are a high performer, we must first define the term 'High Performer'. The simple definition is a person who achieves the best results. It's not just someone who works hard. More specifically it is someone who is able to produce desired results and achieve more of their goals. When we compare high achievers to those who fall short, a discernible difference exists. But this comparison suggests that everyone falls into either one group or the other - achiever or non-achiever. It's not quite that black and white.

Do NOT read any further if you're not opening to the idea we always play a role in creating our own experiences and outcomes!! Instead...Keep doing what you have always done and wish for improved results then let me know how that works out for you.

It's Not MY Fault...REALLY!!!
Let's face it, it can be daunting to realize you are the one who didn't do it right. To make matters worse, it can be even harder to see it. We can think we did things right and still be wrong. We can be told and refuse to believe. In B.C. people were told the earth was round but rejected it for thousands of years. Instead they thought it was flat, stationary and the center of the universe. They were wrong...for hundreds of years. And just like the person who believes his results are not his doing, he is wrong as well. Somewhere along the way, many people became fearful of failing. As a result, some don't try while others refute their participation in causing an outcome. They detach themselves from poor results and believe they weren't responsible while thinking there is no harm being caused...WRONG AGAIN!

Incorrectly Assessing A Job Applicant's Motivation
In today's highly competitive and turbulent business environment, hiring average employees can spell "failure". Companies can not afford mediocrity while their competitors are striving to be the best. Hiring impacts profits in more ways than most companies realize. A Harvard Business School study determined that more than 75% of turnover could be traced back to poor hiring practices. The decision to hire -or not to hire- plays a significant role in turnover. The leading contributor to turnover is often not what happens after the employee is hired, but rather the process leading up to it. And turnover is not always bad if it's a bad hire that's leaving. You have to wonder if you really are hiring the best we can.

Are You Doing the Moon Walk --- Going Backwards While Moving Forward
The death of Michael Jackson recently was a tragic event. No matter what you thought of Michael personally, there is no doubt that he was one of the most talented entertainers of all time. His singing and dancing talent showcased so effectively by his performance in the video and album “Thriller” will be remembered forever as the Capstone of his career. I, like millions of his fans, mourn his passing. However, the one thing that I remember the most is his invention of the “Moonwalk”. The “Moon Walk” is a dance move that looks as if you are going forward when in reality you are moving backward. Michael made that move famous. His tragic sorrowful death reminded me of that move. The Moon Walk itself brings to mind how many businesses often struggle to achieve success; doing things that are supposed to gain market share and create success.

How Do I Fire My Son Toby? My Wife Won’t Allow It
"I love Toby. He's my oldest son, he's Vice President of Sales but he just doesn't get it. My daughter should be running this business, she's brilliant but she's married to a surgeon and doesn't want anything to do with wholesale distribution. She's quite happy with all the charity work she is involved in. My youngest son has potential but he's only twenty two and just isn't ready to take over a 0 million dollar distribution business. Two events have occurred recently that are wearing on me a little. First, I transferred 75% of my stock equally to my three kids, 25% each. All three receive a salary although my daughter rarely appears at the office due to her charity work. The second event occurred after I hired a succession consultant to help me transition into retirement. He told me that Toby was incompetetent.

Success Isn’t a Mystery in any Economy
My first piece of advice on success today for anyone willing to listen is simply to turn off the news. Don’t listen to CNN. Turn off the Fox News network, NBC, CNBC and all the other networks that are sensationalizing everything that is happening in our economy on a minute to minute basis. I have made a conscious decision not to listen because a high percentage of what you see on television today is pure garbage designed simply to improve ratings. I refuse to listen to a constant diet of negativity. In fact, I refuse to even associate with negative people. I suggest that each and every one of us has an obligation to protect our attitude.

The importance of work right now, when money is less available than we are accustomed to, when all around us people are being made redundant, has multiple facets. Goal Achieving Process Part 2: Dreaming Big Dreams
The next step in the goal achieving process is dreaming big dreams. This is my favorite part of the process because it unlocks my inner child and opens up my creative faculties. We are all creators of our experiences, so why not make them as big and exciting as possible? Big dreams help you tremendously with goal achievement, especially since big dreams give you power and enthusiasm. When obstacles get in your way and things don’t go according to plan, big dreams make up for it with energy and enthusiasm. Small dreams don’t really give you any kind of power.

Goal Achieving Process Parts 4 & 5 - Implementation and Accountability / Repeat Process
I’m now completing my series on the Goal Achieving Process with parts 4 & 5 here. There are two major reasons why people don’t reach they’re goals – they lack action (implementation) and follow-through (accountability). You may have the biggest dreams, and create S.M.A.R.T. goals, but without taking any action and following through your goals, then it’s worth nothing at all. You need to have a means and method to implement goals, and then follow-up. This all comes as a result of accountability.

Learn what this something is to have a deeper level of happiness.

Disagreeing With Brian Tracy: Self-Discipline Is Not The Most Important Success Principle
In his book The Power of Discipline,Brian Tracy talks about self-discipline being the most important success principle. He went on to define self discipline by quoting Thomas Huxley, who said, "Do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not." But should we just cast aside how we feel about certain actions in business? After all business does affect the lives of all people and their families. Is self-discipline a recipe for capitalism without a conscience? I advocate putting feeling and emotions back into business. It encourages a sense of purpose and meaning back into business. If you chase success without emotion you will never find it because the pursuit of success is about obtaining a feeling of being successful. Success is essentially an emotion.

If You Plan to Succeed … You Need to Believe You Will!
I can't tell you how many times in the past where I've said I was going to accomplish something, set out a plan, and didn't accomplish it. Now there were many reasons why I didn't get it done but the biggest reason I didn't is because I simply didn't have a strong enough belief that I could. I've heard the saying a million times: "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't ... You are right! This saying is so true. Think about it for a second...

If You Want Something You Don’t Have … TAKE ACTION!
Let's face it ... each of us want things we don't currently have and circumstances we'd love to improve. The question is how bad do you want them, and are you willing to do what it takes? I've often found myself complaining about how busy I am and how difficult it is to accomplish all that I want to. About 18 months ago I decided to keep track of everything I was doing throughout the course of each day so I could attempt to figure out how I could maximize my productivity and accomplish more. To my surprise ...

Starting New Habits is Uncomfortable … But Necessary for Success!
Well I survived my first day of my new commitments, and you know what? It wasn't that bad! I'm not saying that it was easy. If I did ... I'd be lying! Every time we start new habits it is very uncomfortable, but if we continue to do things the same way over and over and follow our old habits ... we can expect to live with the uncomfortable feeling of never achieving more. In my opinion, the second we stop striving to become better, we begin to die. You tell me ... What could be more uncomfortable than death?

Just Because You Are A Negative Whiner Today, Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Change!
Alright so I just told you yesterday that if you encounter someone who is always complaining or moaning you need to realize they are simply a complainer and moaner so you shouldn't waste your time asking why... And now I am telling you just because you are a negative whiner today, doesn't mean you can't change! What's the deal? Ha ha! Well there is one huge difference. If you find yourself dealing with a negative whiner you have absolutely no control over that person, and attempting to change them is absolutely impossible. The only person on the face of the planet we have any power to change is ourselves. If you can find it within yourself to absolutely believe that the only person stopping your from changing, is yourself ... You should feel empowered!

Owning a Small Business Can Be Like Living Alone On An Island
Can you remember when you decided to start your business? I am sure you felt the same nervous excitement I did! I remember when I first told my plans to my Mom. She said, "That sounds exciting Pete, but wouldn't you rather get a job with a big company so you can work hard and have a pension some day?" My response was, "No Mom, I don't want to be in a position where I know exactly what my paycheck is going to be each week." I wanted to know I had the ability to build something that would produce a large income, and perhaps one day I would build it to a point where I could sell it for enough money that I could retire to an island somewhere and drink pina coladas in the sun every day.

The joys of being responsible. Discipline means freedom. They do sound rather contradictory, don't they? But if you gently focus on the rewards of discipline, rather than any sense of stingy self denial, all will make sense. Working with a very broad definition of "rewards" will also help.

Creating Personal Success
Creating Personal Success ---- Every manager, every employee and every leader that has any drive at all strive to be successful. Success starts with self awareness. That means understanding your personal strengths and weaknesses. It also means having enough humility to work on those weaknesses. Both the Democrats and the Republicans were preaching change in the presidential election. I only mention that because I really like the buzz words --- "Yes We Can" that have been used by both campaigns during the Presedential election process.

Empowerment - Ten Tips to Avoid Micro Management
I deal with a lot of leaders that confuse delegation with empowerment. I am often told, "I don't micro manage, I empower my employees." However, when we start digging into specific situations, we often uncover the difference between delegation and empowerment. It is really not that difficult to ascertain the difference. Delegation is simply getting someone else to perform a specific task for you. "Tom, can you move these for pallets for me to make some room for a new shipment coming in tomorrow?" Empowerment sets a little higher expectation that encourages the employee to use their own creativity and innovation.

What is going on that so many are not happy with what they do? Everyone is born with innate potential for a unique set of capacities, skills, and abilities. Unfortunately, very often this potential is left undeveloped, as people seek to build their lives and careers on capacities and skills that are outside their innate potential. Enlist Your Self Control and Achieve Even More
Self-control is defined as “control of oneself” or the “ability to master one's desires and impulses. Philosophically speaking self-control could be described as the exertion of one's own will. Psychologically, self-control usually refers to a person’s self-perception, belief system, as well as the ability to set boundaries on their own behavior. Among some scientific communities, the issue seems to be whether or not what we perceive as “normal” is truly an accurate setting to work with. Most people assume that self-control is healthier than impulsiveness. However, this has to be compared to each person’s value system – their community

Learn To Increase Your Confidence for Greater Success
Confidence is generally thought of a mental state of being “certain.” Confidence could apply to the knowledge one carries that his viewpoint is true. Confidence could also apply to a permanent emotional state of mind, as in self-confidence: having high self-esteem in general and especially when considering a specific capability. Case in point: some people who struggle with self-doubt in most aspects of their life, but who are confident in one belief. Confidence has sometimes been called a “self-fulfilling prophecy”, since those that have it succeed just as they predict, whereas those who lack it fail because they worry too much about not having it.

STRUGGLING TOWARD A CONSTANCY TO PURPOSE
One of the unfortunate realities of our time is the tendency we have of allowing other persons and society define the meaning of success in our lives. In doing so we absolve ourselves from any meaningful internal dialogue and true understanding of who we are and why we were meant to be here or our purpose/mission in life. Those who regularly read my bulletins know that I have some pretty strong opinions about how we all should live our lives. This statement seems contradictory to my opening remarks but stay with me and I will explain. I thought it would be interesting for us to examine how four different generations might view success based upon what we have come to know about them and what they value. Perhaps from this cursory examination we might get some ideas for what truly constitutes SUCCESS?

Psychological Diversity

Are You a Real Leader or Just an Imitation?
The easiest way to suppress discretionary energy, the energy given willingly - no matter what it takes, is a style often used by "Imitation Leaders" that scrutinizes every decision an employee makes. It can kill the employee's spirit. It destroys trust. Leadership imitation is often just a symptom of ineffective planning, too much compassion and the inability to judge performance and develop bench strength. The "Imitation Leader" usually has a shoot from the hip mentality that encourages micro management and does not allow employees to develop their skills and maximize their potential. One of the many warning signs is a high turnover rate. The reason is simple; good employees just won't tolerate micro management and they will leave to find employment that will challenge them and help them grow.

Change on Purpose
More than ever before, our current economy demands of most companies the ability to achieve measurable results that are specific to profitability, growth, cost containment and operational effectiveness. Of course, none of this will be possible without leadership and organizational change. Without change your company becomes stagnant, uncompetitive and boring. A leader's major responsibility is to create change, instigate change and then manage change effectively. In spite of the fact that creating change is a key competency required to be an effective leader, most people resist change. This includes leaders themselves. However, effective leaders accept change as a positive force and they are able to convince those that follow them that change is nothing more than a road map to a new and better destination.

Manage your Assets but Lead your People
I have had suggestions made to me by owners, presidents and CEOs that would baffle the mind of most professionals that have integrity. For example, I once was asked to fire an individual because his wife's illness had caused the company to reach their catastrophic cap in their insurance program. This same owner would intentionally run mail that contained checks to his vendors through the meter at two cents so they would arrive with postage due. He thought this was a great cost savings idea until the government sent him a cease and desist letter.

Has Your Sales Force Lost Their Passion
Nowadays, salespeople must be problem solvers able to generate solutions for customers in their time of need. Therefore, they must possess a great deal of knowledge about your customers' business. They must actually define what those needs are because the customer may not know, nor take the time to explain if they do know. Customers want you to have the knowledge and intelligence to comprehend and analyze their problems before showing up at the door. Customers will listen and buy from the salesperson that finds the "pain" and takes it away. Sometimes going back to the basics is part of the answer to rekindling the passion. That means revisiting best practice in all areas including targeting, goal setting, customer profiling and action planning.

Developing Your Management Team
Your management team must have an edge. They must be courageous enough to take risk and have an unrelenting readiness to act. Popularity is not a requirement but the ability to generate respect from the employees is without a doubt one of the most critical attributes. They must be relentless in their efforts, unconscious about personal sacrifice of their time and the willingness to go beyond normal expectations. Tough decisions are commonplace; uncharted territories will be the norm. Honesty and impeccable character is a must. Being decisive, doing the right thing, setting clear objectives, motivating and inspiring employees and creating a sense of urgency are challenges that must be met by all members of the management team. Every single member of your management team has to make a difference.

What Successful People Avoid in Their Communication
There are key, unbelievably overused sentences you must make efforts to consciously avoid in your communication, especially in these uncertain economic times. Check those who use these sentences frequently and chances are they are not on your list of the people you consider successful in any endeavor of life. I call them de-motivators and dream busters or responsibility deflectors. The moment you utter any of them, you surrender your desire for immediate action and “borrow” time to wallow in self pity-which is a dangerous move that will never bring either tangible or intangible results.

Hidden in Plain View

More lessons from MasterChef – Can you take the heat?
As the saying goes, “If you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen”. Once again MasterChef has served up some great life lessons. Last year I wrote about the great leadership, coaching and mentoring we can learn from MasterChef. Again Garry, George, Matt and the other guest chefs showed us how to excel in this area of leadership. On this occasion, I want to comment on ‘Resilience’ and dealing with setbacks and challenges, and how MasterChef gave us a window into how people handle stress and demanding situations. The time pressures and increasingly difficult tasks set for the contestants showed us how well they were able to manage themselves under pressure and produce the goods. You could often see the demands of a given situation getting to a number of the contestants. It was unrelenting at times.

Using your dreams and goals to create wealth Part 1
I thought, you can go where you want to go and do what you want to do, when you want to do it. In reality, as it turned out, money was only a tool.

First Step-Using your dreams and goals to create wealth Part 2
To take your first step and set your mind on the course to financial success, you must begin to dream. You must begin to envision the kind of life you desire. The new thoughts may surprise you!

LET’S DANCE!
I almost got shot the other day! One of my coaching clients called to tell me about a very successful meeting that they had just completed that ended in them getting a very important new customer. This was a real tough one and one that we had worked on to create a powerful strategy plan to sue in the coming meeting…and the plan worked! We celebrated. I celebrated for my customer...and I think everyone should celebrate any level of victory in business today. It's a great way to stimulate the slow or lost passion in the employees, leadership and even ownership!

Dreaming is fun, isn’t it? Part 3
Someone once said that what the mind can see, the body can achieve. I believe it. I go a step further. I believe that the mind must see it before the body is able to work for it. Look at another realm of human endeavor: sports. When Roger Bannister broke the four-minute mile, he saw it long before he did it. Over and over in his mind, he later recalled, he visualized doing what had been deemed to be impossible. Interestingly enough, once Bannister did what no one else had ever done before, others quickly succeeded in doing it.

You stop moving forward, because your dreams have ended. Either you are content to live with what you have or you are constantly frustrated because you don’t have enough-or you learn to dream again.

When hiring for and growing employees within an organization, it is essential to consider both character and competence traits. The single best strategy for helping a company improve results starts with hiring the right people for the right business needs. Sprinkle the hiring process with a bit more deliberation and patience and watch the long-term results take an upward course.

The whole presentation was a testimony to the art and science of visual merchandising.I couldn't stop wondering if there was a secret recipe to designing retail projects. It resonated with me and I immediately began to implement the principles he outlined.

Your Mindset and Your Money
The way you think and the beliefs you hold are reflected in how successful you are (success defined as YOU would like it!) and how much money comes into your life. These are not new ideas. He was inspired by billionaire Andrew Carnegie to take on an enormous project – to interview 500 of the most successful men at the time (today we KNOW at least half of these would be women) and to determine what they had in common that contributed to their success.

My Own Worst Enemy
I was so surprised to find these beliefs inherently buried in my subconscious. Guiding my thoughts, my behaviors and my dreams.
