I often hear people say, “To be in business requires passion”, “Entrepreneurs need passion to be successful”, or “You won’t make it in business without passion.” The list goes on and on. My intention in this article is to discover if passion is truly required for business (or life for that matter).

Passion is mostly a good thing-right? Then I thought about Mel Gibson’s Movie, “The Passion of the Christ,” and with all the negative publicity around Mel these days, I wasn’t so sure any more. So I went and looked up “passion” in the dictionary. It said that “passion” is from the Latin verb patior, meaning to suffer or to endure. As an emotion it is an intense, compelling feeling, enthusiasm, or desire for something. So which is it guys? To suffer or endure or to desire something? This left me even more confused! The only concussion that I could come to was that passion seemed to be a desire for suffering, but that did not seem rite either so I kept on looking. Then I came across an article written by Curt Roengren: “4 Myths About Career Passion.” Here’s what he says...

Empowering Lay People
Early Christians saw themselves as disciples and ministers on an individual basis. In fact, to a great extent they were people of God and shared equality on that footing regardless of social position or wealth. Instead of looking at a minister or reverend as the “leader” each person saw themselves as an essential part of the body of Christ and a representative. Modern Christians would do well to take another look at that type of understanding.

Even if you aren't Christian, I believe it's that same spirit of brotherly love which I recognize as the Christmas spirit which brings out the best in you. And there's no reason not to bring forth your best every single day of the year....
