On Taking Risks
One of the hardest things in life to do is take risks. Many people tell me they're not willing to sacrifice their security, and find risk-taking to be frightening. But once you realize that everything involves risk, your confidence becomes the cure for risk aversion. One survey showed that in order for people to succeed in business they need self- confidence, drive and energy, the ability to deal with uncertainty and confusion, and finally, persistence. These attributes will come naturally when you are doing what you truly want to do. When you are pursuing Core Desires, you are willing to acquire knowledge, skills, and experience, and you have the will to persist.

Are Your Business Cards Lazy
A friend of mine, just back from Vegas, showed me a business card he got from a Cadillac salesman down there. Not that impressive at first glance. Just an ordinary business card. But when you turned it over, its back showed the ranking of all the poker hands.

“Business Ethics – What’s Happening Where We Work?”
The National Business Ethics Survey (NBES) provides an overview of ethics in the workplace and the 2005 version indicates that ethical misconduct is increasing. And this is after Enron, et al. The NBES included more than 3,000 American workers and their survey showed that more than half of American workers have observed at least one type of ethical misconduct in the workplace. Yet, employee reporting of the misconduct they observe is down by 10%. This is cause for alarm, in my opinion, and more businesses need to be aware of what is happening with ethics at work today.

Custom Survey Do’s and Don’ts
If your company opts to utilize a custom survey instead of a published market survey, here is a short guide to creating the perfect survey. With this overview your organization is sure to avoid these classic mistakes.

Orchard survey shows that CEOs expect business climate to improve in 2010
A recent survey of CEOs showed that 88% of business leaders expect 2010 to be a better year for their businesses than 2009. The survey also showed that whilst 2009 was a difficult year for most, 75% of CEOs felt that they had learned some useful lessons from the recession.

Would you get A Tattoo of the General Motors’ Logo?
When was the last time you were really excited about the customer service you received? A recent survey showed that 44% of people rate the customer service they usually receive as dull and bland. Most customer service experiences are, well ok, and we unusually come away somewhat satisfied from the experience. This is all well and good, but most of your competitors are already doing this. To stand out from the competition you need to demonstrate customer service on a dramatically different level: service that is anything but bland and dull! Think Disney, Harley Davidson, or Apple.

Why Do Business Strategies Fail?
A survey of senior executives at 197 companies showed that firms achieve only 63% of the expected results of their strategic plans. The key reason – they don’t know how to execute effectively. Without effective execution, no business strategy can succeed. Unfortunately, many managers know far more about developing strategy than about executing it …

Private Health Insurance Options
In the United States, studies showed that 62.2% of individuals under the age of 65 were covered by insurance in 2007. The same study showed that 82.8% of the elderly were covered by health insurance in 2007.

Decisions, Decisions
Do you ever wonder why decisions you make foster reactions that you never dreamed of? In a Hay Group research brief entitled "Executive Blind Spots," the results of a large survey concluded that the higher executives rose within an organization; • The more they over-rated themselves compared to how they were rated by others, and; • The wider the gap between how they saw themselves and how their peers, subordinates, and managers viewed them. Individual contributors and lower level managers, in contrast, showed no significant gaps between how they and others rated them.

Medium Sized companies struggle with B2B demand generation too
Previously we looked at the results of a survey by Act-On Software, which found that large companies (500 employees or more) were struggling with B2B demand generation. The survey showed that the vast majority were doing only “Top of Funnel” activities, like email campaigns and events – which drive raw, unqualified leads. Few were doing lead nurturing and almost none were doing lead scoring.

After Your Engagement Survey: 24 Considerations to Turn Insight Into Action
Conducting an engagement survey is a good start. The value in the exercise though, comes in the action and dialog that follows the survey. The conduct of the survey should be considered a promissory note to your staff: they've delivered candid feedback - it's your turn now to deliver the data, and a plan for improvement.
