Practice, Practice, Practice then Play
| |
| In the sporting world it is expected that athletes make the time to practice, practice, practice and then go and compete or play the game. Through regular practice they hone their skills, behaviours and attitudes to ensure they are ‘match fit’ and ready to compete at the highest standards.
A sports team needs to make sure that when they are in the thick of the game they can draw upon those skill drills and practice sessions to perform well as a team and perform well under pressure.
When an individual athlete is neck and neck with a competitor racing for the finish line they need to know how to dig deep and draw upon their experiences, skills, and mental and physical reserves to cross the finish line first. This cannot happen without lots of conscious, purposeful practice. |

How to stay mentally and emotionally fit for life as well as physically fit
| |
| How do you measure mental and emotional fitness?
Sprint - Rest - Sprint - Rest
When I was young I was a competitive swimmer in a club. I trained three evenings per week at the local pool with my squad and I was physically pretty fit. When I was 21 I worked as a swimming instructor in London. I swam a mile every week day morning before work and I was still physically fit. These days I play football and train three times per week in Martial Arts. I am still physically fit, but several years ago I realised that physical fitness was not the only type of fitness I needed for life and particularly in business.

Five Secrets to Creating a “Goal” Medal Life – Part II
| |
| Recently, Joy and I had the pleasure of speaking at a conference in Baltimore, MD. The other speakers included Ms. Deborah Phelps, mother of six-time gold medalist in the 2004 Summer Olympics swimmer Michael Phelps, and Agatha von Trapp, the 91-year-old daughter of Captain and Maria von Trapp, the family on which the movie “Sound of Music” was based. To say the least, there were a variety of subjects discussed that day.
As I listened to Ms. Phelps describe Michael’s achievements, I realized that his story had many of the secrets of success mentioned in my September article, Five Secrets to Creating a ‘Goal’ Medal Life.
Let’s go over these goal setting five secrets again and see how you can apply them. |

Don't Go Into The Water - Yet
| |
| This July's edition of the journal "Medicine, Science and the Law" reported findings that might interest you if you're a swimmer. It's a little morbid: the researchers basically conducted a review of 536 autopsies, and they found that nearly eighty percent of those who'd drowned accidentally did have visible stomach contents. Mom was right: it's dangerous to eat and swim.... |

Running the Sale
| |
| I am more than sure that I am not the first to make the linkage between sports and sales and how one is greatly analogous to the other. Like most I tend to relate to it through the sport I know which is running, just like my friend who was a competitive swimmer in his youth, so he draws on that. At my age I do not run competitively, and because of that, as with my selling, it is an endless process of continuous improvement. |
