Simplicity and Start-up Alchemy: An Interview with WordPress Creator, Matt Mullenweg
| |
| Shame on me.
I don’t know how to code. I should, but I need to get my Indonesian and Arabic fix before I can tackle Python and Ruby on Rails and Sugar-Coated Sugar Bombs.
That is part of the reason that I love WordPress, the blogging platform this blog runs on. The simple-to-use and open-source WordPress, or WP, is a favorite of diehard bloggers, and its 22-year old lead developer, Matt Mullenweg, is #16 on The 50 Most Important People on the Web list by PC World. Damn. That’s bad-ass. |

Why Grow? and Other Wisdom from 37Signals
| |
| I’ve known the guys at 37Signals for a little while.
I first met Jason Fried at SXSW in 2008, and I then got to know David Heinemeier Hansson (DHH) over e-mail and in person last year. On a fundamental level, I think, our philosophies just mesh well

Let Paper Join HistoryPress Kits Join History
| |
| The CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) started the world of change a few years ago "encouraging" PR people to only use online press services or online kits. Most of the shows followed suit (MWC - Mobile World Congress, CTIA and well most other shows) going green and making press materials available to media folks even if they didn't attend. But the hue and cry from publicists at NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) show was difficult to understand. The benefits of the web and online services aren't new. After all these years we're rather glad to see the blood, sweat, tears of paper kits disappear |

Blurb Books a Great Tool for Telling Your Story
| |
| I ran into a service called Blurb at the SXSW Interactive Conference this March and think they have a tool that has some great small business marketing applications. The service lets you take written words and images and turn them into very professional looking hard bound books in small quantities. |

4-Hour Case Studies: Can You Redesign a Life in 48 Hours?
| |
| This past Monday, I gave a presentation at SXSW Interactive in Austin, TX titled The 4-Hour Workweek: Secrets of Doing More with Less in a Digital World. It was my first public presentation on the principles in the book. It ended up standing room only and has caused some waves, being mentioned in the SF Chronicle, Wired, and other media since. |

The Art of Speed: Conversations with Monster Makers
| |
| I had a blast organizing and moderating the “Art of Speed” panel at the incredible SXSW conference a few months ago. It was standing room only (at least from what I could see), and I learned a ton from some of the best at creating monster hits. |

Why We Overtweet
| |
| This morning I’m participating in a panel at SXSW Interactive in Austin called Tweeting on the Weekends. The panelist and audience will attempt to address the idea that our digital worlds are overtaking our physical worlds and perhaps threatening to invade our lives in ways that cause more damage than good. |

WOM…It’s An Art, It’s Science, It’s Theirs
| |
|
If you went to/read about SXSW (check Wikipedia) you saw that folks were doing everything for word of mouth (WOM) buzz. They'll do it all the time, every time. Big secret though? Those folks don't have one iota of control over WOM!
Nope that belongs to the people we're feeding the messages to. You know "them." Problem is they can turn on you in a heartbeat and gawd it ain't pretty. When that happens it's damage control and you try to save the vital parts...that's when you call the PR folks to blame...not us, them!
It can be "managed if you know how to prepare, what to do, when to do it...and you have blind faith!!!!
