trader joes cracking the code of lifestyle brands
In a recent edition of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, we encountered a clever story examining the "unique" dating practices of a group of educated, single professionals. Frustrated with the bar scene and tired of being, well, single, these people formed a social group - a community - based on a unique common interest. In this case the interest wasn't mountain climbing, backpacking, sailing or wine tasting. No, the common interest that united this group of singles was their fondness for Trader Joe's. That's right, these singles gathered to celebrate their mutual interest in, of all things, a grocery store while scouting for potential mates. As one of the participants of the group (Trade Joe's Love!) suggests:

Lesson #2: Get Back To Basics
“It all comes back to the basics,” said Thomas. “Serve customers the best-tasting food at a good value in a clean, comfortable restaurant, and they'll keep coming back.”

Lesson #5: Believe In Your Dream
When Thomas was 15 years old, he wrote an essay for school called The Pursuit of Happiness. In it, he wrote, “When I was eight years old, I dreamed that I would one day own the best restaurant in the world. My restaurant would serve great tasting hamburgers made just the way you like them, and all of the customers would love the food and come back again and again.”

Wendy's is using a legal loophole to avoid posting the calorie content of its food on the menus in their New York stores. Perhaps they're hoping that people won't realize that eating every meal there is going to make them fat.

High Price Raises Perception of Quality

Rangel found that if people are told a wine that they are tasting is expensive, the perception in their brain evolves to increase the quality of the wine they had consumed based on nothing other than higher price meaning a higher quality.

Lesson #4: Cultivate Your Capital Connections
Gallo was not your average wine connoisseur. He abhorred the snobbishness that surrounded the industry and remained firm in his belief that excellent tasting wines of high quality could be produced and sold at low costs. It was with that same attitude that Gallo approached his circle of connections. It did not matter who you were or what you stood for, if Gallo had something to gain from you, he was going to make sure you were on his side.

Web Design for a New Decade
The Internet is bursting with ideas these days on how to design a more interesting website. There are more ideas than website archetypes it would seem. Trying to design from an original perspective can be difficult at times, so this piece will be going over a design idea in a few broad steps. To start, image there is a website dedicated to home decorating and design products, think curtains, couch covers, wall papers etc. Imagine instead of a series of drop down menus there were a picture of a room. This room would be non de-script with clickable images and perhaps furniture.

International Food Franchises find ways to cater to the Indian Palette
Put it down to a stubborn Indian palate, but most international brands have to revamp their menus when they come to India to keep their customers happy. Baskin Robbin’s have just launched their latest ice-cream flavor - kulfi. Indian Touch “
