Leadership Assessment #6 – Builds an Inclusive Culture
There are hundreds of assessments for leaders. The content and quality of these assessments vary greatly. You can spend a lot of time and money taking surveys to tell you the quality of your leadership. There are a few leading indicators that can be used to give a pretty good picture of the overall quality of your leadership. These are not good for diagnosing problems or specifying corrective action, but they can tell you where you stand quickly. Here is one of my favorite measures. The leader always works to build an inclusive culture.

How to build a successful team
Building a team requires identifying specific goals, learning to communicate effectively between members and ensuring ongoing evaluation of success targets and communication patterns.

Finders Keepers
Finding and keeping the right team is one of the toughest and most important tasks you take on as a business owner or solopreneur. Yet it doesn’t always get all the attention it warrants. Business owners focus on the work. In contrast, when investors (Venture Capital groups or Angels) look at a business they are likely to focus more on the team than the business. Why? As Jim Collins substantiated with his Fortune 500 research for his bestseller From Good to Great, it’s the team that creates and sustains success.

Dysfunction Begets Dysfunction
The daily function of your team is not an accident. Team dynamics are a direct consequence of action or inaction by leadership. Too many leaders ignore team problems with the hope that they will improve over time. Unfortunately, the problem only gets worse and everyone suffers as a result.

Help! My Team is Broken... You are not alone
What does communication, or lack there-of, cost your company each year? How many people on your team, at the moment you are reading this email, are doing a task that in some way will have to be reworked or redone? Funny, we always seem to have time to do things "right" the second time around.

Should we encourage mistakes on our team?
Are honest mistakes allowed on your team? Do people fear failing to the point that they become paralyzed at decision time? Are mistakes treated as opportunities for development?

What Happened to Forgiveness?
The strange thing about forgiveness...we are selective about "who" gets it. Why do we forgive some and not others? Why are some people on "the list" forever while others seem to be forgiven quickly?

LEADERSHIP IS ALWAYS “WE” and “TEAM”
We are not able to digest success and sustain success. Most of the people, I have found that they fumble after becoming a successful person. Most of the time, they forget their team and people around them. Believing in a team and appreciating team is a rock-climbing task.

Top 10 Benefits of Teams
Teams are fundamental to business and organizational success. So what exactly are the benefits that a well-organized and productive team brings?

Top Ten Ways Delegating Makes Your Business More Successful
Most sole proprietors and solo entrepreneurs go in to business for themselves because they love what they do. They have honed their craft to become an expert. They excel at what they do and put their total energy, commitment and passion into making the business succeed. But at some point (hopefully sooner rather than later) they realize they can’t do it all themselves and they need a team around them to further the growth and success of their enterprise. Here are ten ideas that may help you delegate effectively so your business will flourish.

Together We Can
After the events of September 11th, we saw individuals throughout the United States and the world come together as one - red, white, and blue. The differences in our personalities, race, gender, nationality, religious beliefs, etc. still existed but our very diversity became a way to show the terrorists that we are all different in many ways but still unite as one - red, white, and blue! Wouldn't it be nice if we could harness that same energy in our companies so that we worked together as one (but without the tragedy)? You can!!!

Seven Steps to Delegating for Results
Have you ever noticed that great leaders are also excellent delegators? Delegation saves time, develops and motivates people, and makes an organization more productive. Therefore, it is fair to say that this is one of the most critical skills for any leader or manager to acquire. For this reason, I encourage every leader to become a master delegator.

Creativity - Of Course You Have it In You!
Creativity - Of Course You Have it In You! OK, you might call it problem solving, but it's also called creativity. Any time you start with nothing and create something, voila! Creativity at work! The idea applies to business building and marketing as much as it applies to making art. If you think about it, it can even be applied to marketing art.

The Caveman Effect
If you wish to understand the dynamics behind superior team performance, you need to understand the psychology that drives human reaction.

TEAM - Together Everyone Achieves More
Don’t underestimate the importance of being a part of a team. We as human beings are designed as relational beings. We’re not meant to go through this life on our own; and in every area of our lives we’ll find ourselves thinking, acting, and living like those we choose to surround ourselves with.

The Most Important Sales Leadership Discipline to Motivating Sales Teams
Sales team motivation can be an easy task, especially when appropriate disciplines are demonstrated by the sales leader. That is when employee motivation happens naturally. It is kind of like “monkey see, monkey do” approach. Motivation, no matter if it is self motivation or employee motivation, is defined as a motive to act. What motivates you and gets you to act, does not necessarily mean it will work for others, or lead to employee motivation. No one can motivate you, only you can motivate yourself. You cannot motivate others. As a sales team leader all you can do is demonstrate appropriate behaviours and create an environment where employees motivate themselves

Lone Rangers Are Rarely Happy People
Everybody needs somebody. It’s human to need friendship, encouragement and help. As a solo business owner, you can’t know everything. It's both an asset and a strength to know when to ask for help.

Police Customer Service
While customer service is my normal focus for this article, I have struggled with the term for many years. I don't see why we term Customer Service as a process. I believe if we respect each other, we can service people by treating them the way we would like to be treated. Now with the Insurance companies lacking in the ‘CS' training department, spare a thought for the senior executives of each of those companies. I wonder what they would do if they didn't receive the promised bonus, of at least hundreds of thousands at the end of the coming financial year. Hmmmm? Would they consider that a tragedy? YOU BET!

In this case the answer lies in capitalising on the diversity and uniqueness of the various individuals comprising the team. It's time to view your team as a mosaic rather than a melting pot.

Ready Set Huddle

A successful business has the proper team assembled to carry out a business plan. Hire the person who is best suited to do the work that is required. In essence, the sole proprietor has delegated work to the members of a team who are working together to ensure the proprietor's success.

Lack of Confidence Causes the Costly “Avoid & Tolerate” Leadership Style
Avoid and Tolerate leadership stems from a lack of confidence in one's ability to lead and communicate effectively. What do companies need to do to create stronger, more confident leaders?

The Toxic Manager
Most managers are not comfortable with a simple truism that the current condition of any organization is direct reflection of leadership. In other words, managers are accountable for the current success or failure of the team. This epiphany is a rude awakening for some and a sad reality for others. The challenge faced by most aspiring leaders is the brutal accountability that accompanies autonomy. In other words, team performance is directly related to "who" is on the team and "how" they are managed. The wrong people certainly influence performance and this quantification of talent is the primary measure of success and failure.

Fun and A Little Weirdness

Team Work Makes it Happen – Part I
Many entrepreneurs and independent sales people have a great tendency to think they can and they have to do it all. The result is they drive themselves crazy. But understand that is not limited to entrepreneurs and sales people – it is happening all over the corporate world as well. Question for you: What if you could work less and get better results? - Would you be interested?

Is Your Business Thinking the “Right” Way?
Most companies traditionally view their bottom line as a statistical or numerical value. They typically measure success based on quantitative data like sales, while qualitative data like documents or words (while useful), are not generally what CEO’s are looking for. But what if this focus on the analytic was not only insufficient but potentially outdated? Spearheaded by the success of Xerox’s holistic approach to service documentation, a new focus on “right brain thinking” (and what it means for the future of business) is on the horizon.

Does Your Business Still Believe in Unicorns?
As the great Albert Einstein often mused “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. Now I’m not questioning anyone’s lucidity, but sometimes (for whatever reason), people just can’t seem to recognize that change is essential. Like the turbulent lovers who just can’t seem to quit each other, businesses often fail to recognize when their business practices aren’t working.

Pulling Your Team To Success
Over the years, the catch phrase has become - "Don't talk the talk, if you can't walk the walk." The more involved a leader is, the better - - so long as it is involvement, and NOT micro management. The team needs to know the leader believes in them, and that the leader is part of the team.

It's You or Them but Somebody Needs to Fix It
If you’ve ever had an issue getting rockstar results from the people you hire or partner with, you’re not alone. The very best place to start focusing your energy to improve any situation with your team is on yourself. With a little intentional focus and some patience, you can turn any team into a success.

Three things you must do before putting pedal to the metal and accelerating your sales
Having a well-oiled sales team and a great product ready to launch can fill your head with a lot of tempting plans. Just like finding a shiny roadster waiting in your garage on a sunny day and that wide open road beckoning, the urge can be irresistable to turn the key, hit the accerlator and see just how fast that thing can go. Don’t start your engine quite yet. There’s an important checklist you need to pay attention to first.

Don’t Wait for Perfect…..
One of the beauties of today’s workplace is that we can just get in the game and then refine our business as we go. The unfinished and imperfect business, book, website, house, job, garden, or fashion design is a starting point. Releasing a trial version can be an act of transparency – and an invitation to customers and friends to help complete and improve it.

Building a sum even greater than its parts: Why it’s essential to create a cohesive sales team.
“Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress and working together is success.” Henry Ford, one of the great industrialists of the 20th century, said that about the importance of teamwork and of how it applies to businesses of all sizes.

What Is the Most Effective Quality Within Your Sales Team?
Sales has always been a team effort even if you are one person team because your potential customer (a.k.a. as prospect) is also a member of your team. If you could identify the qualities of an effective sales team, what would you consider those to be?

Team Effort
Because many sales people are hired for their independent skills, some of them have no interest in the concept of team selling. But little do these people know that a team effort can help sustain relationships, especially with customers who are willing to commit themselves to one supplier, in exchange for a team of experts ready to meet their needs. Six Conversations for Team Success - Look Outside First
Just about every commercial team has experienced some kind of team building event or away day - unfortunately they often become just another project or progress review; what the team has been doing, with little or no attention to how the team is working. Of those that do take time to look at the "how" not just the "what", the focus is too often inwardly directed. "Team spirit", "good communications" and "shared purpose" are not wrong. However, they miss the fundamental truth of being a commercial team. Success is created outside not inside the team.
