Legitimate Home-Based Business: Finding a Needle in a Haystack?
| |
| There are a myriad of home-based business programs available -- many deemed opportunities that are more likely to burn a hole in your cash pockets than fatten your wallet. One needs to exercise due diligence when weighing offers, avoiding those pie in the sky, get-rich-quick schemes or those intended to simply defraud the newbie home-based business owner. Legitimate home-based business programs exist, but one needs to know how to separate the wheat from the chaff.
This article serves as a preventative measure so the reader can avoid such cookie-cutter, enticing yet troublesome and costly programs. Moreover, the author encourages the reader to explore his/her interests, aptitudes and abilities when deciding which business direction to take and to then plan for success, setting up the business in the right way. |

Prospecting
| |
| Every one has to do it, no one likes it. Without new sales businesses fail, it happens every day, in every industry. Why are some companies more successful at doing this then others? Start with how you approach prospecting. How much of your time do you spend, are you seeing the results you expect? My guess is you may not be.

Working Too Many Hours Is Counter Productive
| |
| Employees are working longer and longer hours.
Companies need to begin to advocate some down time during the day, the
week and the year. It is in the company’s best interest to do so. The
stress of all this work leads to health issues both physical and emotional
for employees. Companies need to reward their employees for taking
all their vacation time annually. With health insurance costs so high
perhaps this alone might inspire companies to pay more than lip service
to allowing time to relax, regenerate and reflect. |

Lesson #1: Be Clear About Who Your Company Caters To
| |
| “We started the company around the time that a lot of other social networking companies were starting up,” recalls DeWolfe. “But we saw that a lot of those companies had a very niche focus. We set out to create this next generation portal where we looked at the best social features around.” |

Leverage Your Strengths Fire your Weakness

| Now is the time for your New Year’s resolutions. We can easily rattle off the personal changes we will attempt to make for the new year. Things like, I’m going to exercise more, eat healthy, drink less, quit smoking, allow for more family time, make better use of my time, etc. Have you taken the time to set objectives or “resolutions” for your business? We are entering the age of efficiency. Banks and credit card companies are cutting off risky business, secondary finance companies are rethinking their business model, car manufacturers are cutting dealers and products, airlines are cutting routes, and on and on. What is your plan for 2009? |

Fighting Time!
| |
| Do you feel you’re in a constant battle with time? Does time seem to be winning, no matter which technology, process, and system one uses? While the amount of time in a day, week and year remains the same, people are attempting to fit more commitments into the same finite time spans. After many years of observing and working with senior management, I have found a fundamental flaw in how they approach time. This flaw causes significant bottlenecks in their companies. Worse, their poor leadership regarding time strategies causes others to have problems with time. |

The Art of Strategic Thinking
| |
| When it comes to thinking, planning, and acting strategically, few companies actually succeed! Having said that these companies can still run well, maintain, grow, and be present in the marketplace.
But these companies will never be great! They will never be extraordinary places to work, nor will they be outstanding companies to do business with. |

Assessing the Need for a Training Consultant
| |
| When companies find themselves in the market for employee training, the results can be overwhelming. There are several options and several companies that offer training services. As such, some companies decide to hire a training consultant to assess need and hire training companies, if necessary. |
