| |
| In a week when the big media stories have been about disasters involving an oil spill off Louisiana, immigrant legislation in Arizona and bomb plots in Times Square, my “story of the week” was quite different. It was written in a San Francisco newspaper on April 29th, 1852. |

Calvin Klein 2006
| |
| As one of the most popular and successful brands in American fashion, Calvin Klein Ltd. has witnessed continued growth since its initial launch in 1968. In addition to clothing, the line extends to include perfumes, watches and jewelry. And, while the brand has been at the forefront of adolescent fashion trends, the CK target demographic is a wide one. “I want everyone I can get,” jokes Klein. “Jews, Catholics, gays, straights, you name it!” However, for the public face behind the company, Calvin Klein, 2006 has been one of the most important years in the expansion of his growing empire. |

Calvin Klein Ads
| |
| If there is one thing Calvin Klein ads are known for it is pushing the boundaries of what is considered socially acceptable. Ever since 1980, when the company placed 15 year old Brooke Shields on one its ads, with the tagline “Nothing comes between me and my Calvins,” Klein has been pushing the advertising envelope. From there, he began mounting giant billboards in the middle of New York City’s Times Square that featured buff male models with nothing on but their white CK briefs, and using childlike models, such as Kate Moss, to help sell his Obsession perfume. |

Seek and You Shall Find
| |
| We draw into our lives the things we focus on. If your mind is ready to pay attention to something – new people to meet, selling opportunities, new applications for an old product, ways to save money, chances to learn a new skill – you draw those things into our consciousness. They have always been there, now you are just paying attention to them. When we change the way we look at things, things change the way they look.
Instead of paying attention to every single piece of information in our stimulus-rich world, if we seek the things we want in our life, that’s exactly what we will find. |

| Apparently, he isn’t just a genius when it comes to hip hop and fashion; Russell Simmons knows what he’s doing in the world of real estate too. He owns a sprawling 35,000 square foot mansion in Saddle River, New Jersey – one of the largest homes on the eastern coast, a $5.3 million, 5,800 square foot mansion in Los Angeles, and a Manhattan penthouse. But, for now, it seems like this music mogul has had enough. Russell Simmons’ house in New Jersey is now up for sale. |

Creative Content – Inspiration or Imitation?
| |
| In this era of mash ups, appropriation, homages, re-makes, the boundaries of creative content ownership are getting pretty blurred. A recent billboard campaign in Times Square, New York sparked a massive online debate recently. The eye-catching advertisement was a live video of Times Square. Into shot now and then walks an attractive young woman (wearing clothing from Forever21, the brand being advertised). The women interact in various ways with the video – such as take a polaroid photo, pick people up and put them in their bag. It is exciting augmented reality (AR) technology. But it was not the first time the same concept had been used … |

Our New Year's resolutions are often formed without much thought, knowing full well that we are more than likely to fall off the wagon and retreat into our old habits. The practice of setting New Year's resolutions may be little more than a joke to many, but it is nevertheless very important for each one of us to set up smart goals for ourselves, especially if we want to make something of our lives and set our own direction. |
