Leaving the Sheep Behind: Marriott Hits It Big
| |
| In 1937, Marriott’s Hot Shoppe No. 8 became the home of his next innovation. Since it was located near an airport, Marriott noticed that airline passengers would often stop off to his store and buy lunch to eat on board. With that came Marriott’s idea to sell pre-boxed meals directly to airlines. Practicing Assertiveness
| |
| Very early Sunday morning I was waiting in line at Montreal’s airport. Despite the early hour, the airport was crowded and the lines at each of the security points were the longest I had ever seen them. People were patiently waiting; however there was an older gentleman who became quite distressed as he realized he would miss his flight due to the slow movement of the line. He attracted the attention of one of the officials, however they merely shrugged unhelpfully. Then two European men in their mid 30’s went to the aid of the older man, they asked all the people in the queue ahead of him would they mind if he jumped ahead of them to catch his flight. Of course no one minded and the man went quickly through security. |

Airport Parking, Tiered Storage and Latency
| |
| Ok, so what do airport parking, tiered storage and latency have in common? Based on some recent travel experience I will assert that there is quite a bit in common, or at a minimum an analogy. What got me thinking about this was recently I could not get a parking spot at the airport primary parking ramp adjacent to the terminal (either a reasonable walk or short tram ride) which offers quick access to the departure gate.
