Your Values and Your Success
Successful people clarify their purpose and direction in life. Your personal values are an important part of your clarity of purpose and direction. Values are guides to decision making in ambiguous situations. They center you. They provide you with a touchstone when you are trying to make important decisions. If you have not already clarified your personal values, I suggest that you do so -- the sooner the better. You'll find that clarifying your personal values is time well spent.

Seek Out First Time Experiences in the Second Half of Your Life
I love this "touchstone" I have hanging in my office. It seems the older we get the more excuses we have NOT to participate actively in life. "I might break a nail" if I learn how to climb rocks. "I might break a leg" if I roller blade with my kids. "What would the neighbors say if they saw me out there on my kid's scooter"? All we're doing is shutting down our bodies and our minds with this type of negative talk. "Just like fruit on a tree, if you're not continuing to grow, then you're ripe, and beginning to rot" my friend told me.

Failure of HQ & Sales to Communicate Effectively
Sin #4 of the "9 Most-Deadly Sins in Sales & Marketing" is Failure of HQ & Sales to Communicate Effectively * HQ/Marcomm sees forests, not trees * Sales sees trees, not forests Perspective is everything in business and in everything we do. It's essential that Sales and Management agree on what's best for their customers -- and their company. They must start by agreeing on the best "Positioning Statement" they can make for their company. All messages the company conveys -- Mission Statements, Elevator Pitches, Ads, Websites, etc -- should all have their origins in the Positioning Statement. All parties must also agree that the Positioning Statement is the best message the company can make.

Increase Sales By Overcoming Repetitive Habits
Are your habits increasing habits or potentially decreasing them? Read a quick story about the "Touchstone" to show how habits can prevent us from achieving our sales goals.

The Power of a Blank Whiteboard
Unfortunately for many companies, people don't usually respond well to change. Anything but. I wish we could embrace the opportunity to evolve processes and thinking and behaviors - but often we don't. Especially in tough times - when the company environment is probably already tense and constricted. When things get tense, people tend to hang on to what they know, as a touchstone for the status quo - which is known and safe, even if it does mean a downhill slide. Hanging onto 'the way we've always done it' is one of the most common challenges I encounter in my clients.

5 Home Office Strategies (Part 3)
We've talked about the first two tips for working in a home based business, so let's now focus on tip three. 3. USE TOUCHSTONES AS VISUAL REMINDERS. We all know we need to stay focused, but when your eye begins to wander, it helps if it wanders on a visual touchstone. If you were to come to my office, you'd find I have several lining the top of my walls much like a bordered wallpaper accent. Here's a few examples: a. CAN I DO THIS AFTER 5? Alot of times we get sidetracked doing something that can really be done AFTER normal business hours. Like, upgrading our database of names, sending out bulk mailings, writing letters. We really need to be on the phone or in the face of our potential customers when THEY are in the office from 8-5. b. WHO CAN DO THIS AS GOOD AS I CAN? There's a lot of work I can hire out and should do just that!
