America's New Fuel Efficiency Standards
According to new guidelines from The Department of Transportation and the EPA, US vehicle fleets must reach an average fuel efficiency of 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016. The new rules will reduce consumption by 1.3 million barrels a day, cut CO2 by 220 million metric tons and save $65 billion as of 2020.

A Closer Look at Mystery Shopping

“When we launched Kingfisher [Airlines], we had certain very clear-cut parameters, brand-new planes, commonality, fuel bases between fuel efficiency and controlled costs, and then of course we did a huge market research on the name, the brand, the consumer expectations,” recalls Mallya. And yet, despite all of his hard work, the company is struggling to turn a profit. So why does he continue to put so much into it?
Satisfaction and Success
A recent consumer survey of satisfaction levels with respect to a variety of industries revealed that the airlines score consistently at the lowest levels of customer satisfaction. If you fly regularly, this will not shock you. I realize that with increasing regulations and skyrocketing fuel costs, the airlines are facing unprecedented challenges; however, it is important to note, with the same regulations and fuel prices, that one airline consistently scored good marks in consumer satisfaction.

Strong Leaders are Strong Communicators
It was the dead of winter in the middle of a very cold snap. As we approached departure time, judging by all the activity outside the plane, we weren't likely to leave on time. In a few minutes the captain announced, "You can see a lot of activity on our left wing. This is a maintenance crew trying to replace a defective fuel pump. We find it's best to fix a problem like that on the ground before we're in the air. The good news is that there is another fuel pump available here at the airport. The bad news is that it will delay our departure by about 30 minutes."
